1 2016 Family Aquatic Center Pool Rules and Regulations 6200 Farmington Road, West Bloomfield, MI A West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation Facility The following rules and regulations are designed to ensure safe and healthy operations of the Family Aquatic Center and to comply with the State of Michigan Regulations for Public Swimming Pools. The Outdoor Pool is ADA compliant with a zero-depth entry up to 12 feet deep. The outdoor pool is maintained at 80 degrees. It has a whirlpool (up to 4 people), a slide, and a few spray features in the shallow end. Please review these rules before visiting the Family Aquatic Center. Updated June 17, 2016 GENERAL RULES & INFORMATION 1. Lifeguards at this facility are trained to PREVENT accidents and perform basic first responder care. A lifeguard s role is surveillance of the pool and to enforce rules and regulations. Direct and constant supervision of children is the responsibility of parents and guardians. 2. Only U. S. Coast Guard approved floatation devices are permitted and are subject to approval by staff. Children wearing such devices must be accompanied in the pool with a patron at least 16 years of age within arm s reach. 3. Inflatables/Toys/Balls/Radios: a. ALLOWED: Pool noodles, small beach toys, small beach balls, small playground balls, small squishy balls, mini squirt guns, personal ipods/mp3 players and cell phones. b. NOT PERMITTED: Inflatable toys, squirt tubes, super soakers, rafts and other floatation devices. No water balloons in or out of the water. 4. Children less than 6 years old must be accompanied by a patron at least 16 years of age at all times, in and out of the water. 5. The Family Aquatic Center has a Family Changing Room located on the locker room level. The changing room contains a sink, lavatory, changing table, lockers and a bench. This room enables families to change together in privacy. Two other locker rooms are also provided with showers, lavatories, benches and lockers. 6. Infant seats and strollers are allowed but must remain a minimum of 4 feet from the pool. 7. Chewing gum, glass and oil products are not allowed in the pool area. 8. All West Bloomfield parks and facilities are smoke and alcohol free. No drugs, alcohol nor smoking is allowed on the premises, including the parking lot. 9. No pets are allowed within the Family Aquatic Center except for assistance animals. Assistance animals must have a clear, visible license. 10. The Family Aquatic Center is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Limited lockers are available in locker rooms but patrons must provide their own lock. Lockers are for day use only. Our Lost & Found is located at the Main Entrance on the top level of the building. 11. The Family Aquatic Center reserves the right to close the pool with no refunds, due to low attendance, inclement weather or if pool conditions do not warrant safe swimming. See below for weather and closing policy. 12. The Family Aquatic Center staff has complete operational authority on the property and may modify schedules and procedures as needed.

2 ADMISSION 1. Please check the weather before you pay admission to the Family Aquatic Center as no refunds will be given if inclement weather arrives. Family Aquatic Center staff make every reasonable attempt to post pending weather conditions at the entrance when there is public notice given. 2. No refunds, transfers or rain checks will be issued upon admission. 3. The Outdoor Pool and Indoor Pool are both subject to capacity of 250 and 30 people, respectively. When capacity is met, no more patrons will be allowed in until patrons exit. 4. Admission prices are based on age and residency: Resident/Non-Resident Cost Resident 2 Years and Under FREE Resident Rate 3-15 Years $4 Resident Rate 16 Years+ $6 Non Resident 2 Years and Under FREE Non Resident Rate 3-15 $6 Non Resident Rate 16 Years+ $8 5. All patrons are asked to present a photo ID with address to determine the rate. 6. Must be 16 years old to enter, with photo ID. Those patrons under 16 must be accompanied by someone who is 16 years or older and maintain the following ratio: Up to 5 children per 1 adult (16 years or older) 7. Patrons must receive a WRISTBAND from a Pool Customer Service Representative before entering the pool area. a. Each patron must obtain their own wristband. b. Wristbands cannot be shared between patrons. c. Wristbands must be worn at all times. d. No re-entry without a wristband. e. Lost wristbands should be reported as soon as possible after discovery of their loss to the Customer Service Representative at the pool customer service area. f. Too tight/loose or damaged wristbands can be traded for a new one at the Pool Customer Service area. 8. Any patron wishing to use the deep end of the pool must pass a deep end test and receive a separate deep end wristband. 9. Patrons are asked to contact a manager if there are special accommodation requests (access, mobility, physical concerns) prior to arriving to the facility. CHAIRS, PICNIC TABLES, COOLERS, FOOD & BEVERAGE 1. Chairs/lounges must remain in authorized areas and may not be removed from the pool deck. Chairs/lounges must remain a minimum 4 feet from the pool. 2. No food or beverages outside the picnic table area, with the exception of water bottles and baby formula. 3. No one can claim a picnic table; they are open to all patrons. 4. Vending machines are located in the picnic area, which is just off the pool deck. Items in the vending machine include: Pop, Water, Snacks and Ice Cream. Machines do take credit card or up to a $5 bill. Machines are not owned by the Family Aquatic Center therefore refunds cannot be issued for money lost in the machines or for items not dispensed correctly. For vending machines questions or concerns call , Sam Kashat. 5. Coolers are allowed within the picnic area only and are not allowed on the pool deck. This is strictly enforced. Please label all coolers with your family name. 6. If you have items on a chair or picnic table, a person must remain with the picnic table otherwise items will be moved to the side by staff if left unattended. 7. Food deliveries to the Family Aquatic Center must be received by the guest in the parking lot area. No deliveries are allowed to the pool deck as admission is refused to any non-paying guest. 8. West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation does not allow any alcohol at all facilities and parks.

3 DIVING 1. No diving is allowed outside of the diving well in the deep end. WHIRLPOOL 1. Only 4 people allowed in the whirl pool at all times, including children. WATER SLIDE LANES 1. Any patron wishing to use the water slide must pass a deep end test and receive a separate deep end wristband. 2. Riders cannot wear a life jacket on the slide. 3. Riders must enter pool feet first. No head first sliding. 4. Riders must be lying down with feet and arms crossed and keep their hands and feet inside at all times. No standing, diving, rotating tumbling or stopping on the slide. 5. Only one rider at a time. Forming chains is prohibited. 6. Riders should leave the bottom of the slide promptly after entering the water so the next rider can go. 7. Parental or adult supervision recommended. 8. Riders cannot be caught by their parent at the end of the slide, but an adult can be in the water next to the end of the slide. 1. Periodically, lanes will be roped off for those persons wishing to swim laps undisturbed. Persons not swimming laps should remain in other pool areas. For effective use, swimmers should use swim counterclockwise near the lane ropes and pass in the middle if desired. HEALTH & SANITATION 1. All pool patrons must wear proper swim attire. This is defined as a commercial swim suit with a built-in-liner. Lightweight, non-restrictive shorts and shirts may be worn over proper swim attire; however, these may not be street clothes. 2. All non-potty trained swimmers must wear swim diapers or snug-fitting vinyl covers. No disposable diapers are allowed in the pool. 3. All diaper changing must be done on the changing stations in the locker rooms or the Family Restroom, and not on the pool deck or chairs. Diaper changing on the pool deck violates the State of Michigan s health code, is unsanitary and could spread germs and disease. 4. Small personal use umbrellas are allowed for sun protection. 5. No spitting, spouting of water, blowing of the nose or urinating in the pool. 6. Michigan State law requires all patrons to take a soapy shower before entering the pool. 7. Patrons with communicable diseases, open cuts, skin lesions, inflamed eyes or mouth or ear discharge are not permitted in the pool. 8. Injuries occurring on the premises must be reported to staff. The first aid station is located in the picnic area, but portable packs are also kept with each lifeguard.

4 PATRON CODE OF CONDUCT & SUSPENSION POLICY 1. West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation established a Patron Code of Conduct & Suspension Policy to enable staff to provide premier facilities, programs and services so that community members have the opportunity to participate in high quality, diversified fitness, recreation, social and educational opportunities. Guests and participants are entitled to responsive service in a welcoming, safe and enjoyable atmosphere. At the same time, West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation expects reasonable and appropriate behavior from those who visit the facilities and participate in programs. To meet this goal, West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation has established a Patron Code of Conduct as the key to good conduct and proper consideration for other people. For a full copy of this policy, see a staff member. 2. Lifeguards are on duty for patron safety. Staff is trained to enforce the rules as well as monitor and correct behavior which they feel is inappropriate in a pool environment. Any and all of these regulations may be changed if it is deemed necessary to enhance the safety of our patrons and the facility. 3. Jumping or climbing over walls and/or lane lines is not allowed. Running, pushing, shoulder rides, excessive splashing, dunking or rough play of any kind is prohibited, in and out of the water. 4. The uses of whistles (except by lifeguards), sirens, horns, long range speakers are prohibited. 5. The use of profane or abusive language and/or fighting will not be tolerated and is grounds for immediate ejection from the facility with no refund. 6. Persons observed by staff displaying unsafe conduct will be subject the following disciplinary actions (but not limited to): a. Warning by lifeguard b. Sitting out of the pool for 15 minutes c. Ejection from the pool for the remainder of the day without a refund d. Suspension from the pool for a designated period of time e. Revocation of membership pass without a refund WEATHER & CLOSING POLICY 1. The outdoor pool will be opened if the temperature is 70 degrees or warmer, even if light rain is present. 2. The pool may be closed when necessary for the health, welfare or safety of its patrons. Depending on the issue, a temporary pool closing of 45 minutes up to one day (or more) may be required. 3. Storms: During storms of high winds, lightening or hard rain, the pool will be closed and the entire area will be cleared of patrons. Consideration is given at a minimum 30 minutes after the storm has passed and/or after the last lightening/thunder has been detected to re-open the facility. Thunderstorm Tornado Watch (possible in and near the watch area, typically covering numerous counties or even states; issued by Storm Prediction Center) Announcements will be made to patrons that conditions for severe weather are favorable and to be prepared to seek shelter. 5 4. Cool/Rainy: If the temperature is below 70 degrees with rain, the outdoor pool activities may be delayed or end early. The decision will be made by the manager on duty and will be based on immediate weather forecast. 5. West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation reserve the right to rule on any matter specifically not covered in these rules and regulations and to make any decision deemed necessary for the best interest of the Township and the patrons utilizing the facility. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES 1. During any time, a real or simulated emergency (used in trainings) may occur at the Family Aquatic Center. During these emergencies, staff may give directions to patrons. Patrons are asked to pay attention to the directions and stay clear of all staff and emergency personnel. Simulated emergencies demonstrate the abilities, as well as test the skills of staff.
