4 LEARN TO SWIM COURSE INFORMATION Process to follow for LTS Certification: Enrolment on the course must be done through the respected Provincial affiliate office (numbers are on the SSA website) ATTEND A TWO DAY COURSE Pre-requisite: The following are pre-requisites for the course must be complied with: Valid First Aid level 1 - Department of Labour approved service provider Have a valid NAME CLEARANCE that is less than 3 months old (SSA might require police clearance if there is a need) Able to complete the practically assessed swim. (25m OF A RECOGNISED FINA STROKE, 25m OF SIDE / SURVIVAL STROKE and 25m OF BACK SURVIVAL STROKE) The following documents must be submitted to the affiliate for registration on the course: 1 Certified copies of First Aid level 1 - Department of Labour approved service provider 1 Certified copies of their ID 1 Certified copies of a valid and clean NAME CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE (if there is a need SSA might require a full police clearance) Black & White photo Proof of Payment Course Requirements: Write Theory Exam- Pass the exam with at least 60% or more. Log 20 hours with a minimum of 2 certified and registered LTS Teachers. If a re-write is required a fee of R25.00 is payable to the Affiliate office on the day of the rewrite. After successful completion of exam and logging of hours, you may apply to book your practical assessment. When you book for the Practical Assessment: Prepare TWO lessons plans on topics issued by invigilator at the exam. Your logging Sheets and 2 x lesson plans must be brought to your practical assessment. Assessor s travel cost will be covered by the candidate (at current AA rates). The above mentioned is to be completed within 6 months of the course date.. Certificate remains current provided that continuous professional development (CPD) workshops are attended and 8 points are earned and that registration is completed at the beginning of each swimming year on the 1st May.

5 On receipt of your LTS certificate you need to register with your respected affiliate as a swimming teacher in order to receive all relevant information regarding workshops/conferences. Registration documents will be given to you on collection of your LTS certificate. Requirements for Annual Registration: A valid FIRST AID Certificate (if older than a year it must be accompanied by a CPR renewal certificate. A NAME CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE that is less than 3 months old. Payment of the PRESCRIBED FEE ANNUAL registration is due on the 1st May of each year.
