5 RULES & REGULATIONS 1. PERIOD AND VENUE OF TOURNAMENT 1.1 /Time The SAFRA-STTA Table Tennis Championships 2019 will be held from 14 th to 23 rd March 2019 from 8.30am to 10.30pm. 1.2 Venue,, Multi-Purpose Hall, Level The Organising Committee, at its discretion, reserves the right to change the date, time and venue of the tournament, if such need arises. 2. ELIGIBILITY OF PARTICIPANTS 2.1 Only Singapore Citizens are eligible to participate in this tournament. Participants with outstanding payments due to STTA must make full payment by 2.00pm on 29 th January 2019 (Tuesday) otherwise he/she will not be included for the open draw. There will be no refund of registration fee, if paid. 2.2 Player(s) must produce their identification document during registration. 2.3 Age qualification shall be based on only birth year of participants as following: Age Group Birth Year 9 & Under Born in or after & Under Born in or after & Under Born in or after & Under Born in or after 2001 Men s Team Veteran Born in or before 1979 Men s Team Open Open to all ages, no age restrictions 2.4 Current full-time national players (salaried by STTA) are not eligible to participate in any events, except Men s Team Open event as graded player. 2.5 Former full-time national players (salaried by STTA) who have represented Singapore for the last FIVE (5) years ( ) are not eligible to participate in Singles events. 3. REGISTRATION OF ENTRIES 3.1 A player can only participate in a maximum of 2+1 events which includes two age group events and one team event. For age group events, he/she must play in his/her age group category and the next immediate higher age group. For example, a 12 year old girl can participate in Girls 12 and Under and Girls 15 & Under categories but cannot register for Girls 18 & Under Category. Page 5 of 9

6 3.2 A Men s Open team shall consist of a minimum of three (3) players and a maximum of four (4) players. Each team can have a maximum of one Graded Player. Graded players are defined as - STTA National Team Players as of 31st Dec STTA Intermediate Squad Players as of 31st Dec A Men s Veteran team shall consist of a minimum of four (4) players and a maximum of six (6) players. 3.4 Men's team open category is open to all ages. 3.5 Men s team veteran category is open to Men age 40 years & above. 3.6 Strictly no substitution of players is allowed after the registration closing date. 3.7 The registration fee is as follows (inclusive of GST): $10 Member $14 Guest $70 Team 3.8 The duly completed registration forms, together with payment, shall be submitted to the front desk of any SAFRA clubs, open from 9am to 9pm daily. A receipt will be issued. The closing date for registration is Tuesday, 29 th January 2018 at 2pm. 4. TOURNAMENT SYSTEM & RULES 4.1 Events may be played on a single knock-out system and/or group round robin system depending on the number of entries. 4.2 The preliminary round for all individual categories shall be played to the best of 5 games of 11 points each. Semi-finals onwards for all categories except for Boys / Girls 9 & Under and 12 & Under, shall be played to the best of 7 games of 11 points each. 4.3 All matches for Boys / Girls 9 & Under and 12 & Under shall be played to the best of 5 games of 11 points each. 7 4.4 All matches for the Men s Open & Veteran Team will be single matches played to the best-of-5 games of 11 points each based on the following format: Men s Team Open A X B Y C Z A Y B X * Semi-finalists of SAFRA-STTA Table Tennis Championships Men's Open Team will advanced to the knock-out stage directly if the team is registered for this year's championships under the same team name. * The Qualification Round will be played on a group round robin system. The TOP two teams of each group will qualify to knock-out stage. Men s Team Veteran 1st Singles: 40 & above 2 nd Singles: 50 & above Doubles: Total age 100 & above 3 rd Singles: 40 & above 4 th Singles: 50 & above * The Qualification Round will be played on a group round robin system. The TOP two teams of each group will qualify to knock-out stage. * Note: Players of the Men s Veteran Team are allowed to play 1 singles and 1 doubles match but not 2 singles matches. 4.5 This tournament shall be run in accordance with the latest rules and regulations of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). Rules and regulations of the ITTF can be downloaded from Only ITTF approved racket coverings are allowed to be used throughout the tournament. 4.7 The ITTF approved 3-star 40+ white balls shall be used during this tournament. 4.8 No white apparels (shirt and shorts) are allowed. Players who fail to conform shall be disqualified. 4.9 Umpires will be provided for matches from Quarter-finals onwards except for 9 & Under categories. Page 7 of 9

8 4.10 Opposing players from QUARTER FINALS onwards shall wear shirts that are of sufficiently different main colour to enable them to be easily distinguished by spectators. When opposing players have shirts of similar main colour and cannot agree who will change, the decision shall be made by the umpire by lot. Players are required to bring along at least 2 shirts of different colours for the competition This tournament is part of the National Ranking Policy. Seeding for the next tournament will be in accordance with the National Ranking Policy If a player does not show up for all his/her matches for a registered event, no penalty points will be imposed However, if the player shows up ONLY for a match or two and walkover the remaining match(s) of a registered event, he/she will be imposed with penalty points per match which he fails to show up for that registered event if he is unable to produce a valid written explanation within 7 days from the last day of the tournament. The number of penalty points will be calculated as two times (2x) the rating points the player is supposed to get for the stage of the event he reached. For players being awarded penalty points, rating points shall still be awarded based on the stage of the event he reached. (Eg: A player registered for Boys 15 & under and Boys 18 & under. He chooses not to show up for all matches registered under Boys 15 & under. He will not be imposed with penalty points for his no show in Boys 15 & under event. That same player shows up for a match or 2 matches of Boys 18 & under and does not show up in his subsequent match(es) of the same event, he will be imposed with penalty points for every no show for Boys 18 & under, if he is not able to produce valid written explanation.) 4.14 All players are requested to bring their identification documents for verification on the days of their matches, failing which they will not be allowed to play An open draw for all categories will be conducted on Tuesday, 19 th February 2019 at SAFRA Toa Payoh, Seminar Room, Level 3 at 7.30pm. 9 5.2 The Prize Presentation Ceremony shall be held at, Multi-purpose Hall Level 2 on 23 rd March 2019 (Saturday) immediately after the finals of the last event. Trophies/medals will be awarded to top 8 winners of each age group category. Also, trophies/medals will be awarded to top 4 winners of the Men s Team Open and Veteran category. 5.3 All prize winners MUST be present personally at the ceremony in neat attire (no singlet, slippers and sandals) in order to receive their prize/s. Player who concedes walkover from quarter final onwards will not be entitled to receive any prizes. 5.4 The Organizing Committee reserves the right not to award the prize money and trophy if Regulation 5.3 is breached. In addition, if a player who must attend the prize presentation failed to show up, the rating points that he should have obtained from the event would be forfeited. 6. SUPPLEMENTARY RULES 6.1 The Organising Committee has the absolute rights to interpret or amend the rules and regulations of the tournament at any time. Notifications of such changes will be posted on relevant website. It is the sole responsibility of the participant to visit the SAFRA or STTA website for any notices or changes to the draw or schedules. Any changes will be posted at least 24 hours before the re-scheduled match. Any other rules and regulations that are not covered by the Rules and Regulations will be decided by the Organising Committee, whose decision shall be FINAL. 6.2 In any event of a dispute or seeking redress, please lodge your appeal in writing together with the protest fee of $50.00 with the presiding official on the spot during the match. In the event of the protest being dismissed, the fee will be forfeited. 6.3 In the event of any dispute arising over any player, the match shall be played under the protest and the Organising Committee shall determine the matter on receipt of the protest. 6.4 While reasonable precautions are taken, SAFRA, and its agents will not be responsible or in any way liable for any death, disability, personal injury, loss of property or any loss howsoever arising from any cause whatsoever at any time during the course of this event. 6.5 Please visit or for more information on this tournament or Shamsul Ilham at mshamsul@safra.sg if you need further clarifications.
