1 Northumbria Police are Proud to have the opportunity to host the 66 th Police Sport UK National Badminton Championships in the region s main city of Newcastle.

2 Information Sheet Welcome to the Police Sports UK 66 th National Badminton Championships which will be held on the weekend of the 29 th and 30 th April 2017 at the Tyneside Badminton Centre, 37 Bowness Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE5. Tyneside Badminton Centre The venue is split between two halls, the main hall consists of 6 courts, the side hall has three courts, while the halls are slightly different all courts are superb badminton courts and excellent to play on. Hopefully quarters, semis and finals will all be played in the main hall.

3 Championship play will start on Saturday 29 th April 2017 at 8.30 am with the Sports Hall being available for warm up play from 8 am. Play will continue until 5 pm at the latest Semi-Finals will be played on the Saturday, time permitting. Start of Championship play on Sunday will depend on the number of matches that need to be played. Parking is available at the venue, for anyone wishing to take their own transport. A mini bus service will be operating to take competitors and spectators to and from the venue, further details to be provided on the Friday evening.

4 Accommodation is being provided at The Marriot Hotel Gateshead. The Newcastle Gateshead Marriot Hotel Metro Centre showcases spacious accommodation, 4-star amenities and friendly service for your visit. We re conveniently located near the A1M and just two minute walk from the Metro Centre, Europe s largest leisure and retail complex. Our hotel rooms include high speed internet, featherbed mattresses and flat screen TV s; adjoining rooms are available for those attending with family.

6 The Gateshead Marriot has excellent leisure facilities that competitors and guests will have access to. If you intend to bring along any children, please include an accommodation form for them. Also if any disabled access friendly rooms are required please ensure that information is clearly shown. The nearest airport to the venue is Newcastle International which is approximately 10 minute drive from the venue. The nearest train station is Newcastle City Centre railway station which is approximately 10 minute drive. Anyone who needs collecting from either the airport or train station will be contacted near the time to arrange pick up times etc. If this service is needed please make sure it is clearly highlighted on the application form along with contact details.

7 Friday Night (arrival) There will be a buffet meal provided on the Friday evening at 16 per person, included in your package price. The buffet meal will be served at 8pm in the Function Suite in The Marriot hotel. The draw for the championships will be announced at this function. There is no dress code for this event. Table wine is not included in the package price. Saturday Night Due to PSUK rules we are not allowed to provide any official event on the Saturday night. Competitors and guests will unfortunately have to arrange their own evening meals etc. There is a restaurant in the hotel and you are also in walking distance of The Metro Centre and a 10 minute taxi drive to Newcastle City Centre. The Metro Centre is one of the largest shopping centres in Europe, it offers a wide range of entrainment and leisure facilities including an I Max cinema, bowling alley and amusements. It also offers a wide choice of eating options.

8 Presentation Dinner Sunday Evening The Presentation Dinner will be held on the Sunday evening at the function room at The Marriot Hotel between 7.00 pm and 1 am. Dress Requirements: Gentlemen Suit and Tie, no jeans/denim, no casual clothing Ladies Dress/Smart - no jeans/denim, no casual clothing The cost of the meal, and entertainment/ disco has been priced at per person.

Note re trophies In the event of you being a winner of one of the national titles/ trophies there is an expectation that you will return it in good condition with the updated winners information inscribed on it. The cost of the inscription should be met by you or your force. It is not the role of the PSUK badminton section to pay for this.
