0U/2U PHASE II - PUCK HANDLING FIGURE 8s 0U/2U PHASE II - PUCK HANDLING FIGURE 8s FOCUS Wrist action and cupped blade. Use hockey ball to perform drill. Place 2 cones 3-4 feet apart from each other. Stand 2 feet in front of cones positioned in the middle. TECHNIQUE Feet are shoulder width apart. Head and chest up. Hands are closer together within a standard range. Tight grip with top hand. Loose grip with bottom hand. Move the ball wide with the backhand side of the blade. Catch the ball with the cupped backhand of the blade and push it forward around the cones before bringing the ball across the body. Continue to handle the ball in a Figure 8 pattern in front of the body. Top hand controls the movement of the ball. Have players change Figure 8 direction halfway through station. Execute for 30 seconds, rest for 30 seconds. Repeat.
0U/2U PHASE II - CORE & BACK HIGH FIVE PLANK HOLDS 0U/2U PHASE II - CORE & BACK HIGH FIVE PLANK HOLDS 2 Divide players into partners. Partners face each other in forearm plank position. Begin with elbows under shoulders, hands in line with elbows and weight on forearms. Weight on toes and legs fully extended. Shoulders down and back with shoulder blades pinched. Core tight, tuck tail, squeeze glutes and draw belly button back into spine. With fingers pointing at partner lift right hand and high five (thumb pointing up slapping palms) each other. Return to plank position and perform high five with left hand for repetition. During high five movement players brace body and limit twisting to maintain plank position. Perform for 30 seconds, rest for 30 seconds. 2
0U/2U PHASE II - RUNNING & JUMPING HURDLE JUMPS 0U/2U PHASE II - RUNNING & JUMPING HURDLE JUMPS Use 6 inch or 2 inch hurdles. Place 3 to 4 hurdles in a straight line approximately 2 feet between each other. Stand laterally next to hurdles in an athletic position. Bend knees and spring off both feet jumping laterally over hurdle. Land on both feet, knees bent in an athletic position. Hold position for 3 seconds. Repeat jumps and technique over remaining hurdles. After last jump, land and sprint 0 yards. Face opposite direction on next repetition. Repeat technique. ADVANCED Jump hurdles, land and immediately jump again single leg low hurdle hops.
0U/2U PHASE II - AGILITY & BALANCE LADDER: IN THE HOLE 0U/2U PHASE II - AGILITY & BALANCE LADDER: IN THE HOLE Stand sideways at one end of ladder. Hop laterally through entire ladder with foot closest to ladder. Halfway through time allocated repeat using opposite (outside) foot. HOW TO MAKE AN AGILITY LADDER Ladders can either be purchased or homemade. Determine the length of the side rails using a measuring tape. Draw out the first side rail to the desired dimension using chalk, paint or tape. Place the second side rail that is equal in length parallel to first with 20 inches between them. Every 8 inches, use the chalk, paint, or blue painter s tape to draw out the rungs between the two side rails.
0U/2U PHASE II - LOWER BODY MONSTER WALK Lateral Monster Walk 0 yards to cone, touch cone, return facing same direction. 0U/2U PHASE II - LOWER BODY MONSTER WALK 2 Once technique is mastered have players perform Lateral Monster Walk relay races. TECHNIQUE Stand with feet shoulder width apart. 2 Step laterally, in a 3/4 squat position. Long strides so knee does not go past toes. Arms bent at 90 degrees. Change direction by alternating legs. 3 MONSTER WALK TAG 3 GAME: MONSTER WALK TAG In a designated area play freeze tag. Coach designates a player to be it. All players must shuffle left and right to evade player who is it. If you are tagged you are it. Players will fatigue fast, play for 30 seconds, rest for 30 seconds.
0U/2U PHASE II - PASSING, RECEIVING & SHOOTING SHUTTLE PASSING 0U/2U PHASE II - PASSING, RECEIVING & SHOOTING SHUTTLE PASSING Players are divided into groups of 3. Player with ball takes 3-4 runnng strides, passes to player in opposite line and joins the back of that line. Repeat. Work on forehand and backhand passing, sweep ball. Players should take pride in making good passes and being a good receiver. Players must receive pass on forehand or backhand. Position feet and hands correctly...put onus on the passer. ADVANCED/GAME After several reps, have players call out the name of the player to whom they are passing. First team to 0 Shuttle Passes wins. PASSING TECHNIQUE Player carries ball on the forehand or backhand side of the body while running forward, keeping ball on heel to middle of blade. Sweep the ball toward partner, using the push/pull action with the hands and a low follow through, pointing stick at target. Transfer weight from back leg to front leg as the ball is swept. RECEIVING TECHNIQUE Receiver presents a full target with the stick blade. Reduce grip tension of bottom hand to cushion the ball with a short catch using the hands and wrists. Cup the ball and pull the ball across the front of the body on the forehand. Keep arms free and away from the body, rotate upper body. Backhand-use same technique.
