1 Woodway Tennis News Dear Tennis Players, May 1, 2015 The tennis courts are now open and the season is underway. Attendance at spring camp has been amazing with 6 courts full each morning. The courts are in great shape and the weather has been perfect. We have so many fun events coming up. Listed below are the programs starting in the next few weeks. See you soon. Chuck Milot Head Tennis Professional Twilight Tennis Friday June 5 th 6:00pm Twilight Tennis is a fun evening of mixed doubles, drinks and dinner at the tennis courts. There s always a great group of people and a fun format. The first Twilight of the season is Friday June 5th. Sign up as a couple or as an individual. Chuck or stop by the tennis pro shop to sign up. 2 Davis Cup Team Tournament Memorial Day Monday May 25th 9am-12pm On Monday Memorial Day join us at the tennis courts for a fun morning of team tennis competition. Four teams each with a mixture of men and women of all levels will be competing to be Davis Cup Champions. Team matches include men's doubles; women's doubles and mixed all in a fun team format. Sign up limited to 20 women and 20 men. Chuck to sign up tennispro@woodway.org Ladies Member Guest Friday May 29 th 9-1pm Invite a friend for a fun day of tennis at Woodway. The ladies member guest will feature A and B flights with a round robin format so you can meet all players. Lunch will be served at the tennis courts. Chuck to sign up. Tennispro@woodway.org

3 Women s Interclub Tennis Woodway has three women s teams that compete in the Darien - New Canaan - Norwalk inter-club league. Each team has a two-hour team practice the day before their match. Practice includes instruction and drills geared towards competitive doubles play. The team season runs 10 weeks beginning May 11 th and ending July 23rd. The team fee includes 10 two hour practices, warm up before matches, refreshments and balls on match days. Ladies interested can Chuck or attend spring camp to find out more about team tennis. Team Fee: $390. Team practice and match start dates are listed below. Woodway Woman s Team Tennis Policy Woodway CC strives to maintain competitive teams. Our three teams play doubles matches in the Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk inter club league. The A team plays matches with eight lines (16 players per match) The B team plays matches with six lines (12 players per match) and the C team plays with four lines (8 players per match). It is important that, given the anticipated number of new players, each line is filled for every match. New members will be assigned to the C team. This will allow the tennis staff to fully evaluate each player and to allow the players to ease into competitive play. Exceptions will be given to those with a current USTA ranking and a history of match play and to those who have played at the A or B level at another club. The tennis staff will contact the previous tennis pro for verification. If a player is attending team practices, it will be assumed that she will contribute to match play. It is expected that a majority of team players play in interclub matches. Women s A Team (USTA 4.0+) Practice: Monday 9-11am beginning May 11th Matches: Tuesdays 9:15am beginning May 12 th

4 Women s B Team (USTA 3.5) Players on the B team have had two or more years of competitive play and have a usta rating of 3.5 Practice: Wednesday 9-11am beginning May 13 Matches: Thursdays 9:15 am Beginning May 14 th Women s C Team (USTA 3.0) This team is for women who have been taking instruction for a few years and are ready to start competing. It is expected that those players who attend practices will play in the matches. Practice: Tuesday 9-11am beginning May 12 th Matches: Wednesdays 9:15am beginning May 13 th Men s Interclub Tennis Woodway has three men s teams that compete in the Fairfield County Interclub league. With three teams there is a chance for all men to compete on a weekly basis. The teams practice Monday nights at 6pm and play matches Wednesday nights at 6pm. The first match is Wednesday May 13th. 5 Men s Saturday and Sunday Tennis Clinics On Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8-9:30am men of all levels can join the tennis staff for a fun, fast paced instructional clinic. This clinic is a great way to get a good workout and improve your game. No need to sign up, just show up. Men s Saturday clinics begin the weekend of May 2nd. Sunday clinic begins May 24 th. Fee: $34 per class. Spring Junior Tennis Clinics May 11 th June 19th Beginning Monday May 11 th the tennis staff will be offering an after school instructional tennis clinic. This clinic will cover the fundamentals of stroke production, strategy, footwork and the rules of tennis. Classes are Monday through Thursday at the following times. There is no need to sign up, just show up. Class fee: $25 per hour. Ages 10 and under: 4-5 pm Monday through Thursday Ages 11 and older: 5-6:30 pm Please note: classes with two or less students will be charged at the semi or private rate.
