After winning three ATP World Tour singles titles in 2016, the third-seeded Kyrgios went 0-2 in finals last year, but will attempt to reverse that streak in the very first week of Kyrgios made the final in his first main draw appearance in Brisbane after a three-set comeback victory over No. 1 seed Grigor Dimitrov, which was his first win over the World No. 3 in three tries. Harrison, meanwhile, is in his third ATP World Tour singles final after a breakthrough 2017 where he won his first singles title in Memphis, partnered Michael Venus to win the French Open men s doubles title, and advanced to his second singles final in Atlanta (l. Isner 76 76). Harrison survived a tight semi-final against 18-year-old Australian wild card Alex de Minaur, where the American was two points away from defeat during the second-set tiebreak before outlasting de Minaur 46 76(5) 64 in 2 hours and 37 minutes, the second-longest match of the event. In the opening final of the day, Henri Kontinen of Finland and Australia s John Peers, the No. 3 and No. 4 ranked doubles players in the world, will aim to win their second consecutive title after finishing 2017 victorious at the Nitto ATP Finals in London. In the opening match on Pat Rafter Arena, talented teenagers qualifier Michael Mmoh (19) of the U.S. and Aussie wild card Alex De Minaur (18) square off for the first time. This is the first time two teenagers are meeting in the quarter-finals of an ATP World Tour tournament since October 2007 when Marin Cilic (19) defeated Ernests Gulbis (19) in St. Petersburg. Mmoh came into Brisbane with an 0-7 career record in ATP World Tour play but posted wins over Delbonis and No. 8 seed M. Zverev. De Minaur beat No. 44 Steve Johnson and No. 24/No. 4 seed Milos Raonic, both in straight sets, to reach the quarter-finals. In the next match on, Kyrgios and Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov meet for the second time. The Aussie won the previous meeting in the 2R at ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati last August en route to the final.
