2 INTRODUCTION The first inaugural Hawaii Open has proven to be a valuable sporting event to the city of Oahu. The tournament s 7-day calendar included qualifying sessions, fierce tennis matches, and special events, all of which contributed to the local and international exposure for the area of Oahu. Tournament participants and visitors introduce new money into the local economy through additional spending on purchases such as hotels, restaurant meals, shopping, entertainment, and local travels. Often these visits extend beyond the duration of the tournament. Local residents and companies use this marquee event as an opportunity to show off Oahu to personal and professional networks. Corporate sponsors range from local to non-local sponsors who are vying for national and international media awareness.
