FORFEITURE FOR TARDINESS AND COACHES' POOR WEATHER PROCEDURE: In the absence of extenuating circumstances, players forfeit the match if they are not ready to play at the scheduled time, as determined by the site director. In case of poor weather conditions, the coach has the responsibility of contacting the proper tournament official. C. SUPERVISION AND PRINCIPALS RESPONSIBILITIES FOR BOTH CLASS AND OPEN TOURNAMENTS: Each team must be accompanied and supervised by their head coach or assistant coach. In the event of an unforeseen emergency, the team can be accompanied and supervised by an individual appointed, in writing, by the principal of the school. The coach (or appointee) is responsible for supervising the entire team as well as its fans. Contestants must conform in every respect to the eligibility rules of the CIAC. D. QUALIFICATIONS BASED ON SEASONAL RECORD: l. For S Division -- If a team wins at least 50% of its scheduled matches as of May 26, 2005 it may send a maximum of seven (7) players, three singles and two doubles. For M Division -- If a team wins at least 50% of its scheduled matches as of May 26, 2005 it may send a maximum of nine (9) players, four singles and two doubles, or three singles and three doubles. For L & LL Divisions -- If a team wins at least 50% of its scheduled matches as of May 26, 2005 it may send a maximum of ten (10) players, five singles and two doubles or four singles and three doubles. 4. For Individuals (when the team does not win 50%) -- a. If your #l or #2 singles players or the #l doubles team wins at least 50% of their seasonal matches as of May 26, 2005 your school may enter one singles player or one doubles team. b. If any two of your #l, #2, or #3 singles players win at least 50% of their seasonal matches as of May 26, 2005 your school may enter a maximum of three players in this possible arrangement: two singles players or one singles player and one doubles team. (OR) If one of your top two singles players and, in addition, one of your top two doubles teams wins 50% of their seasonal matches as of May 26, 2005 your school may enter one singles player and one doubles team. c. If all three of your top three singles players or both of your #l or #2 doubles teams wins at least 50% of their seasonal matches as of May 26, 2005 your school may enter a maximum of four players in this possible arrangement -- two singles players and one doubles team or two doubles teams, or three singles players. E. ENTRY LIMITATIONS: No entrant may play in both singles and doubles.

FEES, ENTRY BLANK AND TEAM RECORD SHEET AND THEIR MAILING: *** Your entry blank and tennis record sheet must be submitted via the password-protected online eligibility center -- no later than Friday, May 27, 2005 by 12:00 p.m. *** Make the check payable to the CIAC and mail it to the CIAC office, 30 Realty Drive, Cheshire, CT The entry fee will be $60.00, plus $5.00 per individual competitor. There is no additional fee for alternates. Please indicate the record of each player and his position on your team on the entry blank and team record sheet. Comments concerning outstanding players are also requested. This information WILL HELP in determining seeded players. 4. Alternates must fill in the spot vacated by the non-participating entries in the class tournament to avoid last minute shifting of line-ups on the draw sheet. HIS NAME MUST APPEAR ON THE ENTRY FORM Boys Tennis Schedule Must be submitted via the password-protected online eligibility center by Thursday, April 6, Failure to submit schedule of games may result in disqualification from the tournament. All matches must be reported. Matches not reported may not be considered for tournament qualification. 6. CIAC Late Entry Policy If a school s game or meet schedule or tournament entry is late beyond the established deadlines, but prior to the pairings, seeding or heat meeting, a late fee of $50 must be paid before the contestant or team is allowed to participate Boys Tennis Entry Form (Roster & Record) Match results and tournament roster must be submitted via the password-protected online eligibility center no later than Friday, May 27, 2005 by 12:00 p.m. All matches canceled should be reported on the tournament entry in place of score. Principals must file canceled game / forfeit form if match is to be counted. G. PAIRINGS AND LIMITS ON MATCHES PLAYED: Records of pairings will not be sent to participating schools. A participant may not play more than three doubles matches or two singles matches on any given day in the Class Tournaments. H. TENNIS ATTIRE AND TENNIS BALLS: Appropriate tennis attire is mandatory and is subject to the director's or coordinator's approval. The CIAC will supply tennis balls. A new can will only be available for the third set in the later rounds. I. TEAM SCORING: l. In the class tournaments, points for the team scores will be awarded for each event (singles and doubles) on the following basis: one point for each match won. In the case of a bye in the first round, no point shall be awarded unless the player or doubles team wins the next round match, in which case two points shall be awarded, one for the bye and one for the next round that has been won. All matches during the class tournaments will be settled by two out of three sets, with a twelve-point tiebreak when the set(s) reach six-all.

AWARDS: For Class Tournaments: By Schools -- In each class, the school that accumulates the highest number of combined points in singles and doubles will receive a winner's trophy for the school. The school that acquires the next highest number of combined total points will receive the runner-up trophy. (Total of eight (8) trophies). By Individuals -- In both singles and doubles, the individual winners and runners-up will merit and receive corresponding medals. (Total of 24 awards) K. RULES OF CONDUCT, PLAY AND INJURY: The game will be governed by the USTA Code of Conduct, including the point penalty system, with modifications as specified by the CIAC Tennis Committee. In case of any controversy the decision of the site director shall be final. Warm-ups will be a maximum of ten minutes. Up to a ten (l0) minute break will be allowed between second and third sets. Up to a five minute injury time out is allowed with an equitable and reasonable extension or reduction of the five minute injury time determined by the site director. Participants will follow all of the rules in the Class and Open Tournaments of this information sheet and entry form. L. CIAC POLICY: CIAC Late Entry/Inaccurate Information Policy -- If a school s game or meet schedule or tournament entry form is late (beyond the established deadlines but prior to the pairings, seeding or heat meeting), or the information contained on those forms is inaccurate, a late fee of $50.00 must be paid before the contestant or team is allowed to participate. Tournament Regulations Violations -- If a school fails to comply with tournament regulations, including deadlines, accurate information and/or any other procedure which requires the CIAC tournament sports committee, central office staff, or Board of Control to redo any portion of the tournament pairings or which adversely impacts the management of the tournament, an administrative violations fee of $ will be imposed upon the school before entry into the tournament will be allowed.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY INTO THE STATE OPEN TOURNAMENT FROM THE CLASS TOURNAMENTS: l. All contestants must have conformed to the rules of the CIAC Class Tennis Tournaments. All singles and doubles finalists, in all Class tournaments, qualify for the State Open Tournament. In the event that qualified finalists cannot participate, the tournament director(s) will select a semi-finalist from any of the four class tournaments to replace an absent finalist. It will be the responsibility of the qualifying coach or his/her designee to contact the site director of his player s intention to participate in the Open Tournament. 4. In the Open Tournament only the team s coach or his/her designee may coach the players of his/her team during the odd game change-over periods, the rest periods of the round robins, and in the ten minute rest period of split sets in the finals. E. All players must be accompanied by the team coach or principal s designee (in writing). F. A player must participate in the State Open to qualify for the New England Tournament. B. THE OPEN FORMAT AND SCORING FOR SINGLE AND DOUBLES: Format There will be a round robin of eight singles players who have qualified from the class tournaments. These players will be divided into two flights of four players each. In each flight, the four players will play each other in a round robin which represents the semi-finals of this Open tournament. The winner of each flight will qualify to become a finalist for the Open finals to be played on the next scheduled day. The doubles team will have the same format as singles. Scoring Players will play a thirteen-game match with each of the three other players in his flight, using no-add scoring. The winner of the most number of matches won in his flight will be the winner of the round and become the Open finalist. In any flight, if there is a tie in the number of matches played, the winner will be determined by the player who has won the most number of games. In the event that the number of games are tied at six each, a nine-point tie-breaker will determine the winner of the 13th game. The doubles teams will use the same scoring format as singles.

AWARDS Players will play a standard two out-of-three set match with a twelve point tie-breaker to determine the winner. For State Open Tournament -- The winners and runners-up in singles and doubles will receive awards. (Six awards) D. 10 2005 BOYS TENNIS TOURNAMENT FORMS LISTING All tournament forms must be submitted via the online eligibility center section of the CIAC website located at This area of the site requires the school's username and password for entry. Worksheets for collecting the information needed to submit the online forms can be found on the following pages. These worksheets are intended for giving to coaches to provide information for submission to the school officials who will be filing the information online. Under no circumstances will printed forms be accepted in lieu of submissions via the eligibility center. The following forms must be submitted for the sport of boys tennis: Schedule -- Due April 6, 2005 Tournament Roster - Due May 27, 2005 * Match Results - Due May 27, 2005 *& * For these forms, you may find it easier to print out a copy of the actual web form, instead of using the worksheet, since the web form will be filled in with your eligible players and/or game schedule. Any form in the online eligibility center can be printed without being submitted. & Match results must be submitted on a weekly basis (All matches through a Saturday must be submitted no later than the following Monday). If schools choose to do so, they may set up access codes which allow coaches to enter game results without having the main school eligibility center password. Access codes can be set up in the online eligibility center by selecting the appropriate option from the "Administrative Actions" menu. Once the code is setup and the schedule is entered in the eligibility center, results may then be entered at
