2 SITE(S) AND DATES USTA INTERMOUNTAIN SENIOR SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP September 21-23, 2012 Match Play begins on Friday September 21. YOUR DISTRICT WILL FORWARD YOUR TEAM ROSTER INFORMATION Team CAPTAINS MUST Register their Team online to compete in this Section event. Registration instructions: 1. Go to Web site 2. Click on the Tab at top of home page called Adult Tennis" 3. Click on Section Championships from the pull down menu then click Senior link 4. Click on the Registration link to register your team and sign-in as a NEW USER. You will receive a registration confirmation via or you can print your own confirmation on the final registration summary page. *Please be advised that the match Schedule is subject to change at ANY time as deemed necessary by the Championship Committee. Therefore we strongly recommend that you make your flight arrangements with the intention of participating throughout the entire weekend. Matches start at 8:00 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Matches should be completed by 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Weather or other delays may occur, so we strongly suggest that you do NOT schedule early afternoon flights home on Sunday. Please make your travel plans in accordance with these tournament parameters. TENNIS FACILITIES: Matches will be played at (2) sites. 1) Boise Racquet & Swim Club (Tournament Headquarters) 1116 N. Cole Road Boise, Idaho Ph: (208) Directions: Take Interstate 84 (I-84) to the City Center Exit (I-184) Take the first exit, which is Franklin Road Go right onto Franklin, get into the far left lane The club is between Emerald and Fairview Look for the green and white sign on the East side of the road 2) Boise State University / Boas Indoor Tennis Center 1507 S. Oakland Boise, Idaho Ph: (208) Directions: From I-84 take Broadway Exit, and turn north (toward downtown) Turn left onto W. Boise Avenue Turn slightly left onto W. Highland Street Follow W. Highland to the end of the street (W. Highland becomes S. Oakland) The tennis center will be right in front of you Note: The Boas Indoor Tennis Center is not located on the BSU campus. We are not using the Appleton Tennis Center which is located on campus. 2

3 Practice Courts Practice courts may be available prior to the event but are limited. In most instances reservations are required. Please contact the facility directly at the phone number(s) listed above. Note: All court fees are to be paid by players. We have compiled a list of courts in the area that may serve as practice courts. Boise Area Tennis Courts Public Parks (near BSU) Fort Boise Tennis Center : 6 lighted courts 700 Robbins Rd. Boise Drop in prior to 2:45 and after 5:30 on Friday. Saturday s not available from 9:00am-10:30am Ivywild Park: 4 courts 416 W. Ivywild St. Boise Williams Park 4 courts 300 W. Williams St. Boise Schools near BSU (schools most likely will not allow public play Friday prior to 5:30 p.m.) Timberline High School: 8 courts 701 E. The use of rental car(s) is strongly recommended. ELIGIBILITY Team Eligibility A minimum of 6 players who were on the final local roster must be available to compete at the Adult Section Championship Player Eligibility Each player shall have reached fifty (50) years of age prior to, or during the calendar year in which such player plays in his/her first local league match. Any individual who progresses to championship level in the USTA League Tennis Program must be a USTA current member through each championship progression. A player is eligible to advance to championship level competition if that player has played on that same team in the same division in at least two matches during its local league season. A maximum of one defaulted match received shall count for advancing. A retired match shall count for all players involved. USTA Regulation 2.03A(3) All individual team members must be from the appropriate level of play in accordance with the NTRP System. Participants must have played three (3) matches through Section Championships to be eligible to compete at National Championships. No defaults received count for advancing. USTA League Regulation 2.03A(4). RULES, REGULATIONS, SCORING, AND COACHING Intent To Play Ten days prior to the Section Championships, each team which qualifies to compete in the tournament must notify the District League Coordinator that it will or will not participate in the tournament. District League Coordinator must in turn, notify the Section League Coordinator of teams attending Section Championship. If a team gives notice that it will participate but then fails to do so, penalties may be administered with the maximum penalty being disqualification of all of its members who had agreed to participate from all league play for the following year. The tournament committee named for the event where the violation occurs shall decide upon the penalty. This decision may be appealed to the ITA Grievance Committee. 4

5 Rules and Regulations USTA Rules and League Regulations will be enforced during the championship. All match lineups must be submitted to the tournament desk by the team captain at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the match. Failure to comply may result in penalties as imposed at the discretion of the tournament director. Move Up/Split Up 2.06A National Championship Teams. National Championship rostered team members, and teams that qualify to advance to National Championships, but do not participate, may move up one level as a team or must disperse to form new teams in accordance with the table below. The new teams that form at the same level as the National Championship team are limited to the number of players who were on the final roster at the conclusion of local league play of any team or combination of teams that advanced to the National Championships in accordance with the table below. This applies to any player who participated in any match for that team during the championship year, including defaults received. If a Section has a regulation that limits the number of players on a roster that are at a specific level, the Section must suspend that regulation for one year for any team that participated at the National Championships the previous year and chooses to move up one level. DIVISION MOVE-UP/SPLIT-UP REQUIREMENTS MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ALL PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIPS NATIONAL FOR NEW BELOW CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAMS NATIONALS FORMED AT SAME LEVEL Adult National Adult 2.5 & Senior 3 Mixed Doubles 3 Super Senior Section Option Championship and National Championship Eligible Teams Section shall have the right to decide whether a team must move-up or disperse to form new teams Section Option National Championships Teams that are eligible to advance to the USTA Adult National Championship can access information by going to Look on the right side of the page under Find a National Championship see your championship event, click and you will be brought to your championship landing page. Then you will need to register your team to confirm participation by going to the on-line registration link. Registration fees are as follows: 3 position teams (3 doubles) $400 plus the $40.88 processing fee Note: Captain will not receive a packet from USTA as all information is located on the website. 5

6 Scoring Best of two tiebreak sets with a Match Tiebreak (if required) in lieu of a third set The Coman Tiebreak Procedure will be used for the Set and Match Tiebreak. This procedure is the same as traditional Tiebreak, except that ends are changed after the 1 st point, then after every four points and at the conclusion of the Tiebreak. The Set tiebreak is the first to 7 by 2 pts. The Match tiebreak is the first to 10 by 2. Two minute rest between the 1 st and 2 nd set and between the 2 nd set and 3 rd set match tiebreak. Scores must be reported to the tournament desk immediately after match is completed. When all matches are complete, both Team Captains are to report to the tournament desk to sign the official tournament scorecard. Championship Flight Setup Teams will participate in a non-elimination round-robin format. The team winning the majority of those individual matches will be awarded one team point. Men s & Women s: 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 Level Teams The winner of each flight will be determined by team matches won In the event of a tie, the tie will be broken by the first of the following procedures: Individual Matches Winner of the most individual matches in the entire competition Sets Loser of the fewest number of sets Games Loser of the fewest number of games Head-to-Head Winner of head-to-head match A method to be determined by the championships committee: procedure to be announced prior to commencement of championship competition. Coaching No coaching allowed. No cell phones or electronic devices allowed on court. Balls Penn hard court balls will be provided. Players will not be given a new can of balls for 3 rd set. Umpires There will be certified roving umpires present at the site. Umpires will apply the Point Penalty System and call foot faults. Roving umpires may be positioned inside the fenced areas and will interfere with play as little as possible. Players should be encouraged to play tennis without the need for umpires to be present for matches. In the case of disputed calls and upon the request of the player, a roving umpire may be supplied to oversee the match. Inclement Weather Please note that the tournament format, number of matches and match length may change due to a team not showing up or circumstances beyond our control such as weather. Rain could cause delays, modifications to the format, and possible cancellation of the tournament. In the event of rain, please remain at the tournament site until the tournament staff informs you of the play schedule. In the event of a long rain delay, it will be at the discretion of the Tournament Committee to use an alternative-playing format. 6

7 Cancellation If the championship, or part of the championships is cancelled due to rain or unforeseen circumstances, the championship will not be rescheduled. Match Schedule: Match schedule will be posted to the ITA website on September 11, Access match schedule as follows: 1. Go to Web site 2. Click on the Tab at top of home page called Adult Tennis 3. Click on Section Championships from the pull down menu then click Senior link. 4. Click on the Match Schedule link. **Match schedule may also be accessed in TennisLink. Awards Awards will be given to the 1 st Place team(s).the USTA Intermountain Section provides a maximum of (8) awards per team. Additional awards may be purchased at a cost of $10/award. The team captain will receive an ORDER FORM at the conclusion of the event as awards will be shipped directly to the captain. The deadline to complete and submit this ORDER FORM is Wednesday, October 3, If you have any other questions or need further information, please contact Tournament Director, Lynn Lozano at lozano@ita.usta.com T-Shirts Each player competing in the championship will receive one (1) T-Shirt. We can NOT guarantee sizes. We will attempt to provide you with the t-shirt sizes as requested, however please understand that it may not always be possible to do so. Team Photos Team photos will be taken of the 1 st Place teams once the winner/finalist team has been determined. If your team prefers to use an alternate photo you may photo to the ITA Marketing Manager wnielsen@ita.usta.com In consideration of championship participation, players grant Intermountain Tennis Association permission to use their likeness in photograph(s)/video(s)/voice in any and all publications and media whether known or hereafter existing, controlled by Intermountain Tennis Association, in perpetuity. Further, players waive any right to royalties, inspection or approval to the finished product and forever discharge Intermountain Tennis Association from all claims, demands and causes of action which the registrants, their heirs, representatives, executors, administrators, or any other persons acting on their behalf or on the behalf of their estate have or may have by reason of this authorization 7

8 Player Gift Exchange Many teams bring little gifts for other teams. This tradition is not mandatory. Gifts are typically small inexpensive tokens that generally represent their region or state. Examples are state pins, magnets, key rings, and candy. These gifts are presented to the opponents in your flight usually about 8-10 gifts per team. If you choose to participate you may contact your local or state tourist/convention bureau. They may be able to provide you with small, promotional items.. TennisLink Match results will be entered daily. To view standings in TennisLink go to locate Stats and Standings. Click on Championship Advanced Search and drill down to the appropriate Section Championship and appropriate level.
