A company, profession, or association may enter more than one team. The purpose of the league is to provide fun, good competition, and social tennis for all. A maximum of nine (9) teams can play in the league. The first nine (9) team s to commit, submit rosters and fees will be the teams to participate. Prior year s teams are given first priority. Each team will appoint a captain who will be responsible for the following: Attend the Captain s Meeting, on Wednesday, 1/2/14, 6:00 pm at the Jerry Cline Tennis Complex. Prepare team roster and submit to the Corporate League Manager by 1/2/14. This will include all player names, gender and NTRP ratings. Use proper name, put nickname in parentheses. If there is bad weather due to snow, League Manager may cancel the evening matches. Submit complete line-ups to the League Manager no later than Friday before the match. This will help facilitate check-in at the time of scheduled matches. If lineups are not turned in by 11:59 PM the Friday night before the match, someone from the team must bring in a treat for the Sunday league match. On League night, arrive early to confirm match line-up. Players must check in at the sign up desk before each match, Assure that each completed match is reported and score card is signed by a team player. 10 3

4 FORMAT/RULES Team Req. A minimum of six players per team is required; ten are recommended. There is no deadline for registering, but information needs to be provided to League Manager prior to match (preferably at the time of line-up submission.) Fifty percent (50%) of the roster must have players who are affiliated with the company, association, or profession. Three individual matches per team match will be played. A doubles team can be women s, men s or a mixed pair. Players may play in two matches the same night only if they are at different time slots. For add point, the receiving team gets to choose who receives the serve, even with a mixed doubles team. The league will provides high altitude balls for in-door play. Winners take the can of balls just played with. What is a TenCap? TENCAP TenCap is a handicapping system designed to equalize play between players of differing skill levels. Like the golf handicap, Tencap is simple to understand, convenient to use and inexpensive for players. Because of the golf handicap system, the number of recreational golfers has grown tremendously. Tencap will provide similar benefits for tennis. The TenCap handicap system is used in our Corporate League. 1. Determine NTRP rating. 2. Determine TenCap points referencing the Tencap Conversion Table. 3. Follow Steps 1-2 to determine partner s TenCap. 4. Add TenCaps together to determine the team TenCap. 5. Follow Steps 1-4 to determine the opponents TenCap. Match Format Each flight match is 1 ½ hours, that includes a 10-minute warmup. Matches will be played to completion or 1 ½ hours. Team ahead at the end of the 1 ½ hour period wins score stands. Matches will be 2 full sets, no-ad scoring and 10 point Coman tie break. Play a Coman 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of third set. The tie break counts as one game. A TenCap system will be used to determine handicaps. See TenCap Info and Table for more information. 6. League Manager will do the math. The difference of the total points will be given to the higher TenCap team. 7. Handicap points may be used at any time during the match. 8. Unused points may not be rolled-over into the following week s match. [Example 1] Team #1: 4.0 man plays with 3.0 woman ( = 77) Team #2: 3.5 man plays with 3.5 woman ( = 77) Both teams Tencaps are even No handicap points are awarded. [Example 2] Team #1: 4.0 man plays with 4.0 man ( = 60) Team #2: 3.5 woman plays with 3.5 woman ( = 84) TenCap difference is 24 points that are awarded to Team #2. 4 9

5 NTRP CHARACTERISTICS (Cont ) 4.5 You have developed your use of power and spin and can handle pace. You have sound footwork, can control depth of shots, and attempt to vary game plan according to your opponents. You can hit first serves with power and accuracy and place the second serve. You tend to over hit on difficult shots. Aggressive net play is common in doubles. 5.0 You have good shot anticipation and frequently have an outstanding shot or attribute around which a game may be structured. You can regularly hit winners or force errors off of short balls and can put away volleys. You can successfully execute lobs, drop shots, half volleys, overhead smashes, and have good depth and spin on most second serves. 5.5 You have mastered power and/or consistency as a major weapon. You can vary strategies and styles of play in a competitive situation and hit dependable shots in a stress situation You have had intensive training for national tournament competition at the junior and collegiate levels and have obtained a sectional and/or national ranking. 7.0 You are a world-class player. Scoring Awards End of Season Pot- Luck RULES: Time Injuries FORMAT/RULES (Cont ) The highest total number of GAMES (cumulative) won at the end of the season will determine the league winner. If there is a tie in the final standings, it will be broken in favor of the team that has scored most games over the tying team. Should a tie still exist between the tying teams, the team who has lost the least total games in the regular season will break the tie. If a tie still exists, cowinners will be determined. A Corporate Plaque will be awarded to the Champion and Runner up teams, to be displayed at their Corporate Headquarters. An end-of-season pot-luck social will be held at the last scheduled match, Sunday, 3/16/14. The awards will be presented to the league winner and runner up. If a player of a doubles team is late for the start of the match, the following penalty shall apply at the League Manager s discretion: 0-5 min: Loss of 1 game 5:01-10:00 min: Loss of 2 games 10:01-15:00 min: Loss of 3 games After 15:01: Default of match The team receiving the defaulted match will be awarded the win. The score will be considered 6-0; 6-0. The team defaulting receives the loss and zero (0) games. In the event of an injury, play must be resumed within 5 minutes or a forfeit is awarded. 8 5

6 FORMAT/RULES (Cont.) NTRP CHARACTERISTICS Injuries Cont d All four players involved must agree upon the time, and one watch, held by the uninjured team, should be used to keep the official time. If play is resumed, the match and game score remain as they were before stopping. In the event of a forfeit, the forfeiting team receives the loss of the match, but keeps the games it has already won. SPORTSMANSHIP To determine your rating: A. Begin with 1.5. Read all categories carefully and then decide which ones best describes your present ability level. Be certain that you qualify on all points of all preceding levels as well as those in the level you choose. B. When rating yourself assume you are playing against a player of the same gender, and the same ability. General Characteristics of Various NTRP Playing 1.5 You have limited experience and are working on getting the ball in play. All team members must practice good Sportsmanship. Please refer to the following handout: The Code - The Players Guide for Un-officiated Matches. All team members acknowledge and agree to be familiar with the basic rules and customs of tennis. Do not hit or practice serves on the bubble walls. If the walls are damaged the League will not be invited back to play. Should unsportsmanlike conduct occur, a warning will be given to the player committing the unsportsmanlike conduct which will last the entire season. 1 st Occurrence: Issue a warning to the player displaying unsportsmanlike conduct. If that player commits unsportsmanlike conduct again, the League Manager will implement the following at his/her discretion. 2 nd Occurrence: Issue a game penalty to the player (double s team) displaying unsportsmanlike conduct. 3 rd Occurrence: Issue a $10 fine to the team at the League Manager s discretion. 4th Occurrence: Issue a default to the team displaying unsportsmanlike conduct. *$10 fine, at the League Manager s discretion, for poor sportsmanship such as (but not limited to) swearing and intentionally hitting hard balls at people. All penalty money will go into the end of season social. 2.0 You lack court experience and your strokes need developing. You are familiar with the basic positions for singles and doubles play. 2.5 You are learning to judge where the ball is going, although your court coverage is limited. You can sustain a short rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability. 3.0 You are fairly consistent when hitting medium-paced shots, but are not comfortable with all strokes and lack execution when trying for directional control, depth, or power. Your most common doubles formation is one-up, one-back. 3.5 You have achieved improved stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots, but need to develop depth and variety. You exhibit more aggressive net play, have improved court coverage and are developing teamwork in doubles. 4.0 You have dependable strokes, including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate-paced shots. You can use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success and occasionally force errors when serving. Rallies may be lost due to impatience. Teamwork in doubles is evident. 6 7
