1 2018 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SELECTION CRITERIA This document presents the selection criteria for the 2018 World championship from which Racquetball Canada will select the athletes representing Canada. This document doesn t establish the amount of funding that will be available for the athletes to participate at the event. 1. GENERAL CRITERIA - To be eligible for an International Traveling Team all athletes must: a) Be a Canadian citizen; b) Be a fully paid member of Racquetball Canada and in good standing; c) Be able to meet the International Racquetball Federation s requirements to represent Canada at International events d) Sign an agreement with Racquetball Canada 2. SPECIFIC CRITERIA -To be eligible for the 2018 World Championships Team Men s Team: 1. First selected male athlete will be the top Canadian male on the IRT (International Racquetball Tour) who is ranked in the top 8 as of the Wednesday immediately following the 2018 Canadian National Championships, 2. Second selected male athlete will be the top male qualifier based on points accumulated in singles competitions during Racquetball Canada's two Singles Selection Events and the 2018 National Championships immediately preceding the selection of the team 3. Third selected male athlete will be the next top male qualifier based on points accumulated in singles competitions during Racquetball Canada s two Singles Selection Events and the 2018 National Championships immediately preceding the selection of the team; 4. Fourth male selected athlete will be the next top male qualifier based on points accumulated in singles and doubles competitions during Racquetball Canada's two Singles Selection Events and its National Championships immediately preceding the selection of the team Women s Team: 1. First selected female athlete will be the top Canadian female on the LPRT (Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour) who is ranked in the top 8 as of the Wednesday immediately following the 2018 Canadian National Championships. 2. Second selected female athlete will be the top female qualifier based on points accumulated in singles competitions during Racquetball Canada's two Singles
2 Selection Events and the 2018 National Championships immediately preceding the selection of the team. 3. Third selected female athlete will be the next top female qualifier based on points accumulated in singles competitions during Racquetball Canada s two Singles Selection Events and the 2018 National Championships immediately preceding the selection of the team; 4. Fourth selected female athlete will be the next top female qualifier from points accumulated in singles and doubles competitions during Racquetball Canada's two Singles Selection Events and the 2018 National Championships immediately preceding the selection of the team. In the men and women selection, if any of the 4 selected athletes do not agree to participate in the World Championships, athletes will be selected to fill the vacancy according to the 2018 World Championship selection single and double ranking and will be placed at the lowest position in the selection order. 3. EVENT SELECTION PROCESS: The top qualifying male and the top qualifying female have the first opportunity to choose if he/she will play singles or doubles at the World Championships. The second qualifiers have the second opportunity to choose whether he / she will play singles or doubles and the third qualifiers receive the third opportunity to choose. It is assumed these decisions will be made following discussions with the coaches and other players attending the World Championships The first and second qualifiers have the possibility to select single and doubles if they also made the final at the doubles event at the last National Championship. It is assumed these decisions will be made following discussions with the coaches and other players attending the Pan American Championships If a selected athlete does not attend the World Championships, he/she will simply be stricken from the list of eligible players for the event.
3 2018 World Championship Ranking System Selections events included in the ranking: Event #1 : 2017 Fall selection event Single Open Event #2 : 2018 Winter selection event Single Open Event #3 : 2018 National Championship Single Open Event #4 : 2018 National Championship Double Open Point table: The point table indicates the points awarded to an athlete based on his /her final position at an event. Position Points Other 0 Rankings: There are 2 rankings: 1. Single Ranking, based on events 1, 2 and Single & Double ranking based on events 1, 2, 3 and 4.
4 The athletes will be ranked according to the amount of points accumulated at the selection events. Please refer to the Weight of events section for more details. Weight of events for Single ranking and Single & Double ranking: The weight of an event is the percentage used to calculate the points earned at an event for the purpose of determining standings. The points from individual events are totalled to determine standings. Single Ranking : o Event #1 = 30% o Event #2 = 30% o Event #3 = 40% Single & Double Ranking : o Event #1 = 21% o Event #2 = 21% o Event #3 = 28% o Event #4 = 30% If two (2) or more players accumulate same amount of points, the player with the highest ranking in Racquetball Canada s ranking after the last event will be consider the highest ranked in those ranking. Exemption clause Injury Prior to the Event If an athlete is injured prior to starting a selection event and is therefore unable to play in the current selection event, the athlete can submit an exemption request. A note from a doctor or a physiotherapist confirming the injury needs to be sent to the Administrator of High Performance/Sport Development within 21 days following the event. Other exemption circumstances If a circumstance other than an injury prevents an athlete from attending any of the events, it can be submitted to the HPC for evaluation. Exemption requests must follow the procedure below: 1. Any request for a non-injury exemption from a Racquetball Canada event should be submitted to a High Performance Committee member in advance of
5 the event, as early as possible, no later than seven days after the first day of competition for the event. 2. The request must be made in writing stating the circumstances with supporting evidence faxed or mailed to the Racquetball Canada office. 3. The High Performance Committee will evaluate all requests and deliver its decision in writing. Ranking results of an accepted request: If the draw size is 13 players or more, the exempted player`s placing will be finalized at three (3) positions lower than their placing at the previous event in the same discipline. If the draw size is 12 or less, the exempted player`s placing will be finalized at two (2) positions lower than their placing at the previous event in the same discipline but in no case will the exempted player's placing be finalized in a position lower than the number of entries in the draw at the start of the event Injury during an Event: Once the athlete has started his / her first game in the current National Team Selection Event, their resulting position will be determined without any bearing on previous National Team Selection Events.
