3 An Icon Billie Jean King is a co-founder and ambassador for Mylan WTT Won 39 Grand Slam singles, doubles and mixed doubles tennis titles, including a record 20 titles at Wimbledon Received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation s highest civilian honor from President Obama in 2009; she was the first female athlete to be awarded this honor Named one of the 100 Most Important Americans of the 20th Century by Life Magazine in 1990 Recently profiled in major motion picture Battle of the Sexes, played by Emma Stone in the film Defeated Bobby Riggs in one of the greatest moments in sports history the Battle of the Sexes in 1973 Founded the Women s Tennis Association (1973), the Women s Sports Foundation (1974), Women s Sports Magazine (1974) and co-founded the Billie Jean King Leadership Initiative (2014) The National Tennis Center, home of the U. S. Open, was renamed the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in 2006 in honor of Billie Jean King s contributions to tennis, sports and society both on and off the court 2

4 Our Coach As coach for 2017, led the NY Empire to a seven win season, finishing third in the League standings Gigi Fernandez, born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, burst onto the tennis scene by reaching the NCAA finals as a freshman, then turning professional in 1983 and becoming Puerto Rico's first female professional athlete in any sport Gigi s illustrious career included winning 2 Olympic Gold Medals and an astounding 71 titles on the WTA tour including 2 singles, 52 doubles and 17 Grand Slam doubles titles. Fernandez is recognized as one of the best doubles players of all-time Fernandez was named Puerto Rican Athlete of the Century and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2010 Gigi now spends the majority of her time advocating for and teaching her doubles methodology, The Gigi Method, to doubles enthusiasts throughout the country Gigi is active on the instructional and motivational speaker circuit sharing her knowledge of doubles and her inspirational life story 3

6 USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center hosted the New York Empire in 2017, marking the first time the National Tennis Center ever saw WTT action on its grounds. 5

9 Prime Time Tennis The New York Empire will feature seven (7) home matches in 2018 when the nation s appetite for worldclass tennis reaches its peak between The Championships at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows 10 World TeamTennis matches were televised and distributed in 2017 on ESPN3, Tennis Channel, Comcast Sports Net, Altitude Sports and MSG with the Finals airing LIVE on ESPN2 In 2017, CBS New York, SNY, Comcast Sports Net, WNBC, and New York 1 were some of the local coverage providers to feature segments of NY Empire content The NY Empire had four matches air on the five national networks mentioned above with a collective reach of more than 80 million viewers 8

15 Community & Youth Engagement Community engagement is a core pillar of the NY Empire. We hosted clinics with juniors in the New York metro area, including many kids from underserved communities who ve never had access to tennis. 14
