1 2016 Junior Development Series Rules and Regulations Sydney Metropolitan Requirements and Guidelines for JDS events in NSW Commencing 1 st January 2016

2 1. Introduction The Junior Development Series (JDS) events are an opportunity for players, between the ages of 8 18 to not only develop their games but also for these players to develop a healthy attitude towards fitness and competition. The JDS events are held for 10/U, 12/U, 14/U, 16/U and 18/U age divisions and are the first tournaments a player will compete in before playing in the Junior Tour (JT) events that offer Australian Ranking (AR) points. 2. Categories of Age Groups 1. 10/U Green 75% Compression Ball 2. 12/U 3. 14/U 4. 16/U 5. 18/U The JDS events culminate into the Champion of Champions for eligible players which is held in each region. Eligible Players will progress to the State final from the Champion of Champions event. Players cannot play the Champion of Champions or State final without playing in the JDS series. 3. Balls 10/U events must use the green modified ball. 12/U 18/U events will use a full compression yellow ball. 3 balls per court will be provided by the tournament for each event. 4. Playing Fee An entry fee will be charged to each player, per JDS event that they play. This entry fee will range from $15-$25. Tournament directors may assign their own entry fees but this amount must not exceed $25. Players who withdraw prior to the withdrawal deadline can receive an entry fee refund. All withdrawals after the deadline will not be provided with a refund. Sydney Metropolitan Region Events that are cancelled prior to play commencing will provide refunds to players less a $5.00 administration fee. Please check with your Regional administrator for refund policies. 5. Additional Venues Players Tournament Directors have the right to introduce additional venues for their JDS events where entry numbers are large. The venue should be within a reasonable distance from the main venue and all participants need to be contacted prior to the event to notify them of the venue allocation.

3 6. Entering JDS JDS tournaments in Sydney Metropolitan region are required to take online entries and will provide players the facility to enter events online. Entries can be made via Please contact the Tournament Director prior to the entry deadline if you have issues completing the online entry process. 6.1 Player Registration All players who play in JDS events MUST be registered with Tennis NSW. All players must provide their Tennis NSW registration number upon entry into all JDS events. A player s registration number is an eleven (11) digit number starting with 61. Please play@tennis.com.au or call 1800 PLAY TENNIS to receive your registration number Tennis NSW cannot facilitate registration number assignments, all requests must be directed to TA Tennis Services. If a tournament allows a player to play without being registered and an incident occurs, the club may compromise their position with regards to insurance. All registration numbers will be checked by the Tennis NSW Membership Department throughout the 2016 Junior Development Series. Players who do not have current registration numbers will have their points suspended until they have paid their registration to Tennis NSW. 6.2 Age Eligibility As the JDS is a series of events played throughout the year that result in a finals series, the age eligibility differs from Australian Ranking Tournament regulations. To be eligible for a certain age group, no matter what age a player currently is, the cut-off date is the age a player is as at the 31 st December DOB cut off is as follows: & Under (10/U) Born anytime in 2006 or later & Under (12/U) Born anytime in 2004 or later & Under (14/U) - Born anytime in 2002 or later & Under (16/U) Born anytime in 2000 or later & Under (18/U) Born anytime in 1998 or later 6.3 Player Information Upon entry into all JDS events, players must provide the following information 1. Name 2. Date of Birth

Contact Phone Number Age Group It is important that this information is collected and sent to the Regional Administrator/JDS Coordinator at the completion in order to contact players regarding important information (e.g. JDS Champion of Champions, the JDS State Final as well as for all Rules and Regulations changes. 6.4 Late Entries No late entries will be accepted in the Sydney Metropolitan region. Please contact the Tournament Director prior to the entry deadline if you have issues completing the online entry process. 6.5 Regional Eligibility Players bordering regions can request a regional eligibility form from by ing nswtournaments@tennis.com.au to compete in a different region to the one that they reside. Players who come from outside the Regional or Metropolitan boundaries are allowed to take part in the JDS round robins out of area. These players are NOT however, entitled to gain points towards the Metropolitan or other Regional point scores. Players who play against an Out of Region player will not receive the games won against that player, their games will be scaled to 30 games. All out of region players MUST BE INFORMED of this when they enter. All out of region players must have OUT OF REGION marked on the actual round robin draw sheet and on your player list that will be sent to the MJDS Administrator. These players should be spread throughout the cards. For this reason, we recommend that these players be offered to play up an age group, particularly if they a reasonable standard of player. The Tournament Director should also inform them of this when they enter. 6.6 Playing in Multiple Age Groups Players are recommended to play in one age group only for the duration of the series. If a player plays in more than one age group the following rulings apply: - Players may only play in one age group per weekend. - Players cannot use points gained in one age group and transfer them to another age group. - Players cannot use events played in another age group to count towards their minimum of 3 events for champion of champion s eligibility. - Players can only play in one age group in the Champion of Champions and State final. Format All JDS events are to be Singles Round Robin events (There are no doubles events in JDS). There are no weekly play-offs or seeded pools in the Sydney Metropolitan region.

5 7.1. Number of Games When there are four (4) or more players in an event, each player in the 10/U, 12/U, 14/U, 16/U and 18/U age groups will play approximately 30 games per day using the following format: No. Players per Pool No. Matches Played No. Games Played each Match No. Games Played each Match *Please note that all 10/U events will use Short Deuce in the Metropolitan Region Variations to the Number of Games/Scoring Scoring formats may be altered slightly from the previous table in consultation with the Referee, Tournament Director and Tennis NSW if it is in the best interest of the event. All scoring formats will be scaled to 30 games when calculating the series point score. The 10/U age group will automatically use short deuce (short deuce when the score reaches the receiving player chooses which side they wish to receive (deuce or ad court). The player that wins this point is the winner of the current game). Tournaments in the Metropolitan Region may choose to shorten the 12/U, 14/U, 16/U and 18/U age groups to play short deuce if they have large numbers. Short deuce should only be used in the case of weather delays and large numbers in the older age groups Seeding Tennis NSW selectors will assign seeds for the 10/U age group. 12/U, 14/U 16/U & 18/U events will be seeded based on AR rankings and then by Tennis NSW selectors. Seeds which are assigned by Tennis NSW selectors is based on a player s overall performance history across all Tennis NSW events. The selection and decision of the Tennis NSW selectors is final Players on a Card Cards should be based on an optimum number of six (6) players per card. Where this is not possible the tournament in consultation with Tennis NSW will decide the number of players to participate in a pool and is based in the best interest of the tournament.

6 7.5 Combined Age Groups If there is a lack of numbers in an event it is possible to combine 2 or more events. If events are combined, only the matches played against players in the same original age group will count towards the players overall position. Points for all valid matches will be scaled to 30 games. 7.6 Withdrawals during a Round Robin If a player withdraws once the round robin has commenced all of the players matches with results or that are yet to be played will be removed from the card. The remaining players in the pool will have their days totals scaled to a score out of Non-Attendance at Tournaments Once a player has entered a round robin, they are expected to play UNLESS prevented by illness or injury. Any player that withdrawals from an event should provide a Medical Certificate. Players withdrawing after 8.00pm on the Friday prior to the tournament, without a Medical Certificate, or players who simply do not turn up will be given a written warning letter advising them of the noncompliance with JDS regulations. All subsequent withdrawals that do not have a medical certificate provided if required will result in players being penalised 10 games for Metropolitan players. All Medical Certificates must be received by the Tournament Director by the Wednesday after the Tournaments completion. 8. Code of Conduct JDS events are governed by the Tennis Australia code of conduct. A copy of the code is available at the link below: Referees and court supervisors are present at JDS events to deal with player behaviour, player dress code, off-court parent/coach interference, player disputes, playing conditions (i.e. inclement weather). The Code of Conduct applies to parents, coaches and friends off the court as well as players on the court. Any interference from any parties off the court will not be tolerated. The Tournament Referee will submit a report outlining any problems so the Regions Disciplinary System can be used. Guidelines for Spectators: Tennis NSW appreciates all the effort that parents and coaches put in to enable children to be involved in the great sport of tennis. We hope that by following the guide below you and all competitors involved will continue to enjoy playing tennis for many years to come. The following behaviour is encouraged: - Clapping good points for both players in a match.

7 - Encouraging good sportsmanship from your child. - Allowing children and officials to resolve any on court situations without interference. - Encouraging children in a positive and non aggressive way. - Have a development orientated focus. The following behaviour is not acceptable: -Coaching children from the sidelines (verbal or physical signalling). -Being aggressive or intimidating towards a child. -Getting involved in line or score calling or on court conflict. -Being disrespectful to or intimidating officials or tournament directors. -Being disrespectful to or intimidating other parents/coaches. -Cheering or clapping when opponents make errors. Please remember: -This is not the Australian Open -These are children -The officials are human -Your child s selection for future Tennis NSW events is based on a number of factors including behaviour of the child and their support team. 10. Weekly Points Allocation Points will be allocated according to the number of games won by a player at each event. Points each week will be scaled to an average score out of 30 games where there are pools in which players did not play a total of 30 games. Point scores will be updated after every 2 events. Point scores may be amended at any time without notice where errors are detected Champion of Champions eligibility The Champion of Champions will be conducted in each region and administered by the respective Regional Administrator Metropolitan Champion of Champions The Top twelve (12) point scorers who meet the eligibility criteria to participate will contest the Metropolitan Champion of Champions event in each age group. In the event that the 12th place is tied, both players will participate in the Champion of Champions. The determination of the top twelve (12) point scorers will be based on the players competing in a minimum of three (3) events as well as the cumulative total of a player s best five (5) tournament results. Where there are less than three (3) events in a series, player selections will be at the discretion of Tennis NSW selectors. The Champion of Champions event will be conducted under the Rules that govern all JDS tournaments, as stated in the document. The Metropolitan Champion of Champions event will use the format of first to four (4) with a tie-break being played if the score reaches three (3) games all. Players qualify for the JDS State Final (29 31 October 2016) through the Champions of Champions.

8 10.3 Champion of Champions Format Players deemed eligible will participate in the Champion of Champions based on the criteria above will be ranked within the Champion of Champion s tournament in the following order: Champion of Champions will be conducted in each region and administered by the respective Regional Administrator. 1. Australian Ranking 2. Point score of the JDS Series Players will be split into 2 pools. At the end of the round robin events, each player will play-off a match against the player finishing in the same position but in the opposing pool to decide the final standings. 11. JDS State Final a) 10, 12 and 14 & Under (10/U, 12/U, 14/U) A Round Robin draw of thirty-two (32) players comprising: Top three (3) finishers from each of the six (6) Country regions Top six (6) finishers from the Metropolitan region Plus one (1) wild card for each region and two (2) wild cards from the metro region b) 16 & 18/Under (16/U and 18/U) A Round Robin draw of twenty-four (24) comprises: Top three (3) finishers from each of the six (6) Country regions Top six (6) finishers from the Metropolitan region Players shall be selected for the Medibank State Final based on the position in which they finish at the completion of the play-off stage of the regional Champion of Champions event. Players finishing 3 rd and 4 th will be required to play off for the 3 rd position at the Medibank State Final where applicable. *Wild Cards for the State Final may only be granted to players who have competed in three events in the JDS series in Players who have not participated in the JDS series will not be eligible to compete in the State Final. 12. Amendments Tennis NSW reserves the right to amend, repeal or otherwise modify the above Rules and Regulations in whole or in part at any time, including with retrospective effect where Tennis NSW in its sole discretion deems the amendments to be in the best interest of the athletes and the JDS series.

Complaints In the event of a complaint in respect to a JDS series tournament (including in relations to a Tournament committee, Tournament director, Referee, court supervisor or coach) a written complaint may be lodged with Tennis NSW at nswtournaments@tennis.com.au Tennis NSW officiating department will determine further action, if any should be taken, including referring the matter to another party such as a club, a regional association or tournament committee and or the TA/TNSW disciplinary officer (to be dealt with in accordance with the TA Code of Behaviour). For the avoidance of doubt, the results of all matches connected to the complaint will stand in any event. 14. Miscellaneous/Contact Details Where the matter arises for which provision has not been made in these Regulations, Tennis NSW will provide for the matter as it sees fit.
