1 GUIDE FOR USTA TEAM CAPTAINS The job of being a USTA captain should be an enjoyable one! We want you to not only enjoy your job; we want you to be successful! To that end, the Charlotte Tennis Association (CTA) has developed this guide to assist in making your job easier. This document provides guidance on how to locate and use various online tools to manage your team. 2 Charlotte Tennis Association (CTA) Captains Corner From the CTA website homepage, click on USTA League Tennis. The drop down menu displays various league options offered by the CTA. At the top of the selection is the Captains Corner. Page 2 1/29/13

3 Captains Corner This webpage resource was created just for captains in the Charlotte Metro League. Throughout the season, news and updates regarding league play will be posted here, in addition to: League Rules and Regulations NTRP Information Grievance Procedures and Forms Facility Directions Page 3 1/29/13

4 USTA TennisLink In order to perform various tasks related to your job as a team captain, you will need to have a USTA account. TennisLink may be accessed from the Captains Corner. Once on the main TennisLink screen, you will click on Create a USTA Account or sign in if you already have an account. Page 4 1/29/13

5 Create an Account/Login To create a USTA account, click on Create an Account and complete the required fields. If you already have an account, enter your USTA# and password. Page 5 1/29/13

6 TennisLink Welcome Page Once logged in, your Welcome screen will display. It is from this page that you will access all the functions necessary to manage your team. The subsequent pages in this document will provide instructions on the most frequently used options. Page 6 1/29/13

7 Welcome Page Listed below are some of the essential functions that may be accessed from this screen. Stats & Standings: Use this option to locate specific information on a player, team, or match. Find NTRP Rating Info: Use this option to determine the NTRP rating of a player. My Quick Links: This listing provides several options, however the most frequently used are Record a Score and Online Team Creation. Page 7 1/29/13

8 Team Information Working again from the Welcome page, click on your team name. The screen on the next page will display listing your team name, facility, captain and flight. It is from this screen that you will perform the majority of your tasks as captain. Page 8 1/29/13

9 Team Information (cont d) The Team page is divided into 5 sections. The Header displays team name, facility, captain and flight details. Team Standings lists all the teams in the flight and their standing. Team Matches lists matches and their results. Player Roster lists all of the players on this team and their rating. Championship Advancements will list any playoff/championship matches if your team advances forward Tabs across the center allow you to access: o Match Summary o Match Schedule o Player Roster o Captain s Report this is contact info for all captains. This report contains the team name, facility, captain name, phone number and address for those in the Flight. When the report displays, there are options at the top of the screen to Send to Excel or Print Report. Page 9 1/29/13

10 Team Information (cont d) The Sub Flight Level screen below, displays the teams in the flight. Click on the Flight. Page 10 1/29/13

11 Team Information (cont d) The Match Summary tab lists all of the team s matches and the results. The Match Schedule tab lists team matches including captains phone number. Page 11 1/29/13

12 Team Information (cont d) The Player Roster tab lists the players on the team including their USTA #, address, phone number, NTRP rating and matches played. By clicking on a player name you can view details of their match results. Page 12 1/29/13

13 Scorecard To print a Blank Scorecard, click on a match ID. Click on Print Blank Scorecard. o The scorecard provides Home and Visiting team information, and spaces to write in players names and scores. o At the bottom of the scorecard is the current roster for both teams. All players must be registered in TennisLink in order to play on the team. o If a player played a match without being registered in advance, the match will be disqualified and the individual match win will go to the other team (regardless of who wins the individual match). 15 Report Scores Captains must input final scores within 48 hours of play. The winning captain is responsible for entering scores. From the Welcome page, click on Record a Score. Enter in the Match Id# and click on Next. Page 15 1/29/13

16 Report Scores (cont d) Very Important!! Report the scores as each individual line was won! Example: Your team wins 4 of 5 lines. If your team lost the #1 singles match, you would not report the score as 4 6, 4 6. You would report it as 6 4, 6 4, and then select the winning team by clicking the Winner button. You must also provide other specifics about the completion of the match. o If the match was completed, then you would select Complete. o If the match was started and a player had to quit the match due to injury/sickness, enter whatever the score may be, then select Retired. o If a team has to forfeit a match, you would select Default. (If you are marking a default, the only players that should be listed on the roster are the players that won by default. No score needs to be entered for a default. DO NOT mark it as 6 0, 6 0.) o A double default is when both teams cannot provide a line up for that match. There is no need to fill out any players for a double default. Once you report the score, the other captain will either confirm the score, or have a chance to dispute the score within 48 hours. Once the match is input and both captains confirm, your division standings will be updated immediately. If the score is disputed, the captain will be notified. ALWAYS have both captains sign each other scorecards, after each team match, to ensure that scores are accurate. Page 16 1/29/13

17 There are a couple Team Management tools to help plan and track your schedule for the season. These systems allow you to: Monitor your players availability Organize your match lineups Schedule team practices Identify your players playing preferences (side of court, court surface, singles/doubles play) all correspondence to your players 1.
