1 The USTA SAZ Hall of Fame was founded in 2013 to memorialize members, both players and non-players, whose exemplary character, achievement and contributions to tennis are worthy of the highest honor and recognition. Hall of Fame selection is regarded as the most prestigious honor awarded by USTA-SAZ. One annual selection is also nominated for the USTA Southwest Section Hall of Fame. Hall of Fame Categories 1. Player Category 2. Non-player Category General Eligibility Requirements A USTA member living in the SAZ district must nominate the candidate Player Category: Candidates must be 35 years of age and older to be considered. Non-Player Category: Candidates must be 45 years of age and older to be considered. A person who is deceased may be considered for induction. Selection Criteria - Player Category 1. The candidate must have lived in the USTA SAZ district for no less than ten (10) years and be clearly recognized as having been a USTA SAZ player during the major portion of her/his playing career. 2. The active playing career of the player must have extended over a minimum span of ten (10) years. During that period of time, evidence of exemplary performance must be available. 3. Only players who have also "given back" to the game in the USTA SAZ in a major and meaningful way shall be considered. Priority consideration will be given to those who have contributed the most to the tennis programs of USTA SAZ. 4. Players will be chosen on their records and length of competitive achievement, locally, regionally, and/or nationally, with strong consideration given to sportsmanship and character. 5. The record of achievement on the court must be balanced by a reputation that can be admired and respected. 6. Priority for consideration shall go to the oldest candidate when other credentials are equal. Selection Criteria - Non-Player Category 1. The candidate must have lived in the territories of the USTA SAZ district for no less than ten (10) years.

2 2. The candidate must have been in a tennis-related activity for over a period of ten (10) years. 4. This category honors individuals (e.g. volunteers, writers, umpires, coaches and others) who have made outstanding contributions to the USTA SAZ district. 5. The candidate's contribution to the sport of tennis must have been or be sufficiently outstanding as to be widely recognized. a. A tennis sports writer whose depth or understanding of the game, writing ability, and extended coverage has established her/him as a person of outstanding ability, and who through her/his career has made valuable contributions to tennis. b. A volunteer whose contributions have made a significant impact on other USTA SAZ members and individuals over a period of time, and who has made the extraordinary effort to make the game of tennis better for all participants. 6. The record of achievement must be balanced by a reputation that can be admired and respected. 7. Priority for consideration shall go to the candidate who has contributed significantly to the tennis programs of USTA SAZ. 8. Priority for consideration shall go to the oldest candidate, when other credentials are equal.
