2 YOUTH TENNIS LESSONS 10-and-Under Team Tennis Ages: 6-10 Join a tennis team! Two teams are offered - a north side team at Nike Park and a south side team at Knoch Park - that will play each of their respective opponents in fun-filled Friday tennis matches to be held the last two weeks of the program. The Team Tennis Program is designed for those with no experience and utilizes a play format that uses age-appropriate equipment and courts. The program features two lessons per week and a team competition day on Fridays. The first three Friday competitions are dedicated to in-house games and competition within the team. Some of the team competitions may be at different times and locations within Naperville. Each player receives a team T-shirt and an age-appropriate racquet to keep. REGISTRATION DEADLINE is May 31. Registrations received after the deadline will be by instructor approval and subject to additional fees for shipping the equipment. No class July 2-6. Participants are introduced to basic tennis skills utilizing the USTA s 10-and-under pathways on a smaller court using special racquets and tennis balls. We use a variety of games, contests and other activities that reinforce the ABCs of tennis - agility, balance and coordination skills - used to learn to play tennis. Wear tennis shoes; racquets are provided for the Red Ball class; bring your own racquet to the Orange Ball class. In case of rainout, a makeup will be scheduled on August 4. No class June 30. For advanced players who have developed their foundation of skills and have competitive match play experience (for example: USTA Tournaments, USTA Jr. Team Tennis, or competitive league play), Coach Meredith Petri-Pollack USPTA/ PTR will continue to refine and enhance serves, returns, overheads, volleys and groundstrokes while emphasizing high-percentage strategies for singles and doubles. Program features a 6:1 student to coach ratio and end-of-season tournament. In fairness to all participants, players at the incorrect level may be removed or reassigned. We focus on the ABCs - agility, balance and coordination - using a variety of games, contests and other fun activities. Children must wear tennis shoes; racquets are provided. If classes are canceled due to weather, up to two makeups will be held the week of July 16. No class July 2-5. 4 YOUTH TENNIS LESSONS Junior Ages: 7-17 Learn to play or improve your tennis game with the Park District s experienced staff. The program also includes free registration in the Summer Slam All-City Junior Tennis Tournament to be held July 14. Tournament information will be ed to all students. Students should dress in comfortable clothing, wear tennis shoes and provide their own racket. In case of rain, up to two makeups will held at regular class times the week of July 16. Players are grouped by ability. No class July 2-8. (gf) ORANGE BALL classes utilize the ABCs - agility, balance and coordination - along with instruction on basic tennis strokes using a 60 tennis court and special orange tennis balls. YELLOW BALL classes use a standard tennis ball. BEGINNERS have never played tennis or have played a limited amount, but not on a regular basis. Class emphasizes introduction of forehand, backhand, serve, shot placement, positioning, scoring and rules. ADVANCED BEGINNERS have knowledge of scoring and rules and may have had some lessons, but lack on-court experience. They can keep a ball in play with others of similar ability. Class emphasizes improvement of basic strokes and works on positioning, shot placement, footwork and serve consistency. INTERMEDIATES are those who can place shots with moderate success and sustain a rally at a slow pace. They are not yet comfortable with all strokes and lack consistency in serving. The second part of the lesson is dedicated to play; first with the child playing with the parent and later playing against other children with the parents as coaches. Children use our special mini racquets; regulation racquets are provided for parents. Fee is per couple; one parent per child registered. In case of rain, up to two makeups will be scheduled. No class July 8. (gf) Parent and Tot Ages: 3-6 Parents, join your tot for our action-packed tennis program and introduce them to a lifetime of fun! 6 YOUTH TENNIS LESSONS Super Smash 10-and-Under Ages: 4-10 Take the tennis experience to a whole new level working with PTR 10-and-under coach Steve Haas and his specialized coaching staff. This camp is for the youngster who wants even more out of tennis with a four-day-a-week program. Instruction follows the USTA s 10-and-under pathway that utilizes smaller courts, special balls and smaller racquets. Camp emphasizes the ABCs - agility, balance and coordination. Thursday is fun games and competition day. In the event of rain, a makeup class will be held on Friday. (gf) Red Ball Ages: Jul 30-Aug 2 M-Th 9:00-10:00 am $104/$134 Orange/Green Ball Ages: Jul 30-Aug 2 M-Th 10:00-11:30 am $144/$174 Turbo Tennis Ages: 7-17 This concentrated program is designed for the beginner to advanced beginner player who wants to learn the basics of tennis quickly. Instruction focuses on forehand, backhand, service and volley strokes. Players must wear tennis shoes and provide their own racquet. If class is canceled due to weather, a makeup will be held on Friday of the same week. (gf) Orange Ball Ages: Jul 24-Aug 9 Tu-Th 6:00-6:55 pm $124/$154 Yellow Ball Ages: Jul 24-Aug 9 Tu-Th 7:00-7:55 pm $124/$154 Summer Slam All-City Junior Tourney Ages: 7-16 Make plans now to compete in the annual city-wide junior tennis tournament July Matches will be scheduled during the day on Saturday, July 14 (with Sunday, July 15 being reserved as a rain makeup day). NEW FORMAT FOR THIS YEAR S ALL-CITY JUNIOR TOURNAMENT to continue to encourage participation in this match-play style format, this year s tournament will be a Round Robin format. Depending on player registration, players will get to play multiple matches against multiple opponents over a 2-3 hour period, with a modified scoring format. Players must be able to either serve (or dropfeed the ball) from the baseline, provide one new/unopened can of yellow championship tennis balls and be available during the full tournament timeframe. We are having two separate, co-ed divisions (i.e., boys/girls in the same division to allow for players to play matches against multiple opponents). AGES 7-10 YEARS OLD will play the tournament/round robin with Orange Balls on the shortened 60 tennis court while players AGED YEARS OLD will play the tournament/round robin with Yellow Balls on the traditional 78 tennis court. Emphasis is on the introduction of forehand, backhand, serve, shot placement, positioning, scoring and rules. NTRP Rating: ADVANCED BEGINNERS have knowledge of scoring and rules and may have had some lessons, but lack on-court experience; they can keep a ball in play with others of similar ability. Emphasis is on improving the basic strokes, positioning, shot placement, footwork and serve consistency. NTRP Rating: INTERMEDIATES can place shots with moderate success and can sustain a rally a slow pace. They are not yet comfortable with all strokes and lack consistency in serving. Emphasis is on moving ground strokes, serve consistency and placement, spin serve, service return, net play and doubles strategy. NTRP Rating Adult Competitive Clinic Ages: 18 and up Intermediate Level (NTRP Rating ) and Advanced level players (NTRP ranking 3.5+) benefit from this clinic that focuses on singles and doubles strategies, shot consistency, specialty shots, difficult shots and serves. Led by our certified instructors, Cardio Tennis is designed for Advanced Beginner/Low Intermediate players and above. Players enrolled at the incorrect level may be removed. This is a fitness program where participants will receive a great workout in their target heart-rate zone while working through tennis and fitness drills. Lessons with one of our instructors who have several years of teaching experience are available for $57 per hour. Instruction with one of our teaching pros is available at a cost of $67 per hour. Lessons with one of our USPTA/ USPTR Certified Pros are $77 per hour. Purchase a Five-Lesson package and save 10%.
