1 Purdue Lesson Plan Form Teachers Name: Stacy Hall Resource: Printyourbracket.com Unit: Badminton Skill taught: Regulation Game Equipment Needed: 5 Nets, 15 Shuttles, Rackets Grade: 8th # of students: Lesson #: 10 Safety: When keeping score make sure that you do not step onto the court and get in the way of the playing teams. Pre-requisite Skills: All badminton skills Teaching Style: Direct Global Goal: Students will be able to have success playing a game of badminton to completion NASPE Standards: Standard 7 Understands that physical activity provides the opportunity for enjoyment, challenge, self expression, and social interaction. Benchmarks: Engage in and enjoy independent and interactive physical activity. Time 1 Min Set Induction: Does anyone know who this is? (Show picture of Olympian badminton player) He is an Olympic athlete! He played in the Olympics. Cognitive (1); Affective (1); Psychomotor/ Fitness (3) Assessment for each objective must be included 1 Min Introduction: Today we are going to start our double elimination badminton tournament. We can pretend we are playing in the Olympics the 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place teams will get a medal. 2 Task Presentation #1: Review of Shots Remember how each shot is done Ask students to repeat cues from a few classes ago with Mrs. Mast Serve Serve is always underhand. The wrist is key component in serve. Serve must go over the service line of opposite side. Clear shot- Contacted high in the air. Is hit high and deep on opponent s side. Used to move your opponent backwards. Smash shot- Contact shuttle high. Target is torso area of opponent. Shuttle is hit hard and downward Serve- underhand, over service line, use wrist Clear shot - high and deep, hit over your head Smash shot- target is at opponent, contacted above head, hit downward Drop shot- contacted above head, shuttle lands right over net, little follow through A: SWBAT show social responsibility by remembering who their teammate was from last class. Assess: Teacher observation C: SBWAT tell me what each shot is and how to do it with 100% accuracy. Assess: Teacher asks.

WISG I want you to get a racket and a shuttle and spread out with your teammate from last class and practice these shots before we start the tournament. Go! 5 2 Transition: Students get racket and shuttle and begin. E1: Students practice hitting each type of shot with teammate. Teacher walks perimeter giving feedback using cues. Transition: Whistle. Have students come to one side on the badminton court and sit. TP #2: Assign teams to courts and have each court have two teams playing and at least one team keeping score for them. I am going to assign you a court and the first two teams at the court play each other the third or fourth keep score. After your team wins or loses report the score to me and rotate to the next net. Scoring team rotate onto the court you just scored for. Transition: Students report to assigned court and begin game play. Serve- underhand, over service line, use wrist Clear shot - high and deep, hit over your head Smash shot- target is at opponent, contacted above head, hit downward Drop shot- contacted above head, shuttle lands right over net, little follow through 20 1 Min A1: Students play tournament. Teacher walks around recording scores and giving feedback. Transition: Blow whistle and have students come to the center Closure: You will finish your tournament tomorrow and on Monday with Mrs. Mast. Please put your rackets and shuttles up. P: SWBAT play a game to 15 using the different shot used to play badminton. Assess: Teacher observation
