The Iowa volleyball program and fans will express their appreciation for those who have served and currently serve at the 7 p.m. competition. The first 50 students in the door that show their student IDs will also receive a free hot dog. Saturday marks Junior Hawk Club Night, and members of the club can register to win Iowa volleyball prizes. The Hawkeyes will also sign autographs on the court after the match. UNLOCKING ACHEIVEMENTS Several upperclassmen on the Hawkeye volleyball team have accomplished impressive career milestones during the 2013 season. Junior Alex Lovell became the 17th player in Iowa volleyball history to surpass the 1,000 career kills threshold in her 88th career match at Penn State on Oct. 26. Senior Nikki Dailey became the 6th player in school history to reach the 3,000 career assists mark when she dished out 26 against Northwestern on Nov. 1. She also reached the 1,000 career digs threshold when she posted 11 digs at Minnesota on Nov. 8. Dailey became just the 11th Hawkeye to reach the 1,000 mark in two statistical categories, and will be honored prior to the match Friday evening for her accomplishments.

RECORD WATCH Senior libero Bethany Yeager is just two digs from tying and three digs from breaking the current school record of 1,931 career digs. The Brenham, Texas, native, who averages 4.33 digs per set in her career, has led the Hawkeyes in digs in the past three seasons and currently paces the team with a total of 407 digs in her 26 matches played in SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES No. 19 Michigan brings a 16-9 overall record and a 6-8 Big Ten mark into the Friday night match. The Wolverines are led by 15th year head coach Mark Rosen, associate head coach Leisa Rosen, and assistant coach Erin Virtue. The roster is made up of three freshmen, seven sophomores, one junior, and five seniors. Lexi Erwin leads the team in kills with 316 (3.22 per set), and Lexi Dannemiller has dished out a teammost 1,049 assists (10.81 per set). Tiffany Morales paces the squad with 397 digs (4.01 per set), while Kristalyn Goode leads the blocking front with 100 (1.03 per set). As a team, Michigan owns a.240 hitting percentage and averages kills per set. THE LAST MEETING Iowa fell to Michigan 3-1 in the last meeting between the two teams on Oct. 12, 2013 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Alex Lovell and Rachael Bedell paced the Hawkeye offense with 12 kills apiece, and Erin Leppek set a career-high with seven blocks in the match. Michigan leads Iowa in all-time meetings. The last time the Hawkeyes defeated the Wolverines was on Nov. 13, Iowa won 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23). A LOOK AT THE SPARTANS No. 16 Michigan State is 8-6 in Big Ten play and 19-7 overall heading into the weekend. Ninth-year head coach Cathy George leads the team along with associate head coach Russ Carney and assistant coach Mike Gawlik. The roster is comprised of six freshmen, three sophomores, four juniors, and four seniors. Lauren Wicinski leads the team in kills with 400 (4.35 per set), and Kristen Kelsey has a team-most 632 assists (6.80 per set). Kori Moster has a team-high 440 digs (4.73 per set), while Alexis Matthews leads the blocking effort with 139 (1.51 per set). As a team, Michigan State averages kills per set and has a hitting percentage of.253. THE LAST MEETING Iowa dropped its last match against Michigan State 3-0 in East Landsing, Mich., on Oct. 11, Alex Lovell recorded a team-high 12 kills in the match, while Lauren Brobst led the way with a.400 hitting percentage. The Spartans lead the Hawkeyes in all-time meetings. Iowa last defeated Michigan State on Oct. 10, 2009 by a score of 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-19). BIG TEN, B1G DEAL A total of eight Big Ten Conference teams appeared in this week s release of the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll. No. 2 Penn State and No. 9 Nebraska appear in the top 10, while No. 11 Minnesota, No. 14 Wisconsin, No. 16 Michigan State, No. 18 Purdue, and No. 19 Michigan made the top 20. After receiving votes for the past few weeks, No. 25 Illinois returns to the rankings and rounds out the poll. With eight teams in the top 25, the Big Ten is the most represented conference in the poll. THE CAREER CLIMB Senior Bethany Yeager is currently tied for second on the all-time career digs list with a total of 1,929 digs. Senior Nikki Dailey is sixth in career assists with 3,050, 14th in career service aces with 19, and 15th in digs with 1,014. Junior Alex Lovell is 16th alltime with 1,035 career kills, while senior Rachael Bedell is 19th all-time with 850 kills. CONFERENCE COMPARISON Iowa volleyball is currently second among Big Ten teams in digs with a total of 1,499 (15.14 per set) and third in service aces with 131 (1.32 per set) on the season. Bethany Yeager is fourth in the league in digs with 407 (4.11 per set), and Nikki Dailey is 10th in service aces with 22 (0.24 per set). Alex Lovell is eighth in kills with 341 (3.44 per set) and ninth in points with (3.77 per set).

3 Head Coach Sharon Dingman Sharon Dingman was named the eighth coach in the history of University of Iowa volleyball March 21, In five seasons at the helm of the volleyball program, she has imposed a winning attitude. The Hawkeyes faced another challenging slate in 2012, facing 16 eventual NCAA tournament teams, after taking on 18 in Dingman led a young Iowa team -- with only one senior -- to eight nonconference victories. Five Hawkeyes garnered alltournament honors. She led Iowa to conference wins at Indiana on Oct. 5 (3-1) and at 12th-ranked Purdue on Oct. 6 (3-0). The victory in West Lafayette, Ind., marked Iowa s first win at Purdue and first sweep of the Boilermakers since Nov. 10, It also marked the fourth win over a ranked foe for Dingman, and her first victory over a ranked team on the road. No. 12 Purdue is the highest-ranked team the Hawkeyes have defeated during her tenure and the program s highest since defeating No. 11 Michigan at home in 2007 (Sept. 28). It also marked the first time Iowa won two-straight league contests since 2008 and consecutive league road matches since Purdue was one of seven Big Ten teams selected to the NCAA Tournament. Six league foes advanced to the Sweet 16 and two (Michigan, Penn State) represented the conference in the NCAA Final Four. Dingman coached sophomore Alex Lovell to Big Ten Player of the Week honors on Oct. 8 for her efforts in the back-to-back league road victories. It marked Iowa s first Player of the Week honor since Sept. 18, 2006, when Melanie Meister received the recognition. It was also the Hawkeyes first weekly honor since Christina Meister was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 7, The Leonard, Mich., native equaled junior Rachael Bedell with a team-best 37 kills in the two wins. Lovell finished the year with a team-high 382 kills, the most in a single season since Catherine Smale posted 441 in Junior Bethany Yeager totaled a career-best 533 digs in the most in a season since 2006, when Emily Hiza registered 545. Yeager became the 14th Hawkeye in program history to surpass 1,000 career digs in Iowa s season-opening sweep of Chicago State. She is fifth in program history with 1,522 career digs, moving up nine spots on the all-time list during the season. In 2011, the Hawkeyes used their second of consecutive nationally recognized recruiting classes to continue building a program that will, in time, ascend up the Big Ten standings. Four Hawkeye freshmen combined to start 59 matches, and those four freshmen combined with four sophomores to total 62-percent of Iowa s starting lineup. The Hawkeyes youth flourished in the nonconference season, racing to a 10-3 record and a pair of tournament championships. In 2010, Iowa s four freshmen combined for 67 starts. The Hawkeyes started their freshman quartet four times, more than any other Big Ten school. Iowa kicked off the season with consecutive tournament championships and made program history by starting the season 3-0 for the second consecutive year. Iowa knocked off No. 16 Michigan in Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Nov. 12, marking the third time in as many seasons Dingman and the Hawkeyes defeated a top 25 opponent. In 2009, Dingman helped Iowa match the best start in program history by guiding the Hawkeyes to a 6-0 start. Iowa eventually became the first team in school history to start the season 7-0 on the road. The Hawkeyes captured five conference wins in 2009, raising Dingman s two-year Big Ten win total to 11, the highest twoyear stretch for an Iowa volleyball team since Dingman led the Hawkeyes to their most successful campaign in recent memory in her first season at the helm. Iowa s 14 wins in 2008 were tied for the most since 2000, and its six conference victories are the most since Dingman guided the Hawkeyes to a ninth place finish in the competitive Big Ten Conference, which was the highest finish for a Hawkeye squad since Dingman s team set or snapped many streaks in a successful first season. Iowa won seven-straight matches, tying the fourth-longest winning streak in school history. The Hawkeyes also swept every opponent during the winning streak and won 15-straight sets. That was the longest set-winning streak since Iowa opened the conference season with wins over No. 18 Wisconsin and Northwestern, marking only the fifth time in school history that a Hawkeye team started 2-0 in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes also had a winning record inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena for the first time since The Hawkeyes also snapped conference losing streaks in Dingman s first season. Iowa defeated Ohio State for the first time in 39 tries, dating back to That win also broke an 18-match losing skid on the road in Big Ten play. Iowa s upset win over No. 18 Wisconsin snapped a 26-match losing streak against the Badgers, which dated back to Dingman set a personal milestone at Northwestern on Nov. 14 when she recorded her 350th career win in Iowa s five-set victory. Her career record stands at in 22 seasons as a head coach. Iowa s match at Michigan State on Nov. 2, 2012, marked Dingman s 700th as a head coach. NOTHING BUT THE BEST Iowa became the sixth college team in the country to receive a Taraflex Sport M Plus floor on Sept. 19. The portable playing surface, which lies on top of the basketball court in Carver- Hawkeye Arena, has been the Olympic volleyball surface of choice since The Hawkeyes played on their new floor for the first time on Sept. 21 against Iowa State. TARGETING THE TOP The Hawkeyes have defeated a ranked opponent in four of Dingman s five previous seasons at the helm of the volleyball program. Iowa will have several more opportunities to continue that trend in the final six matches of the season, as eight of its Big Ten opponents currently appear in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Poll. Iowa s top 25 victories since 2008 include: vs. No. 18 Wisconsin (3-0, 2008); vs. No. 18 Michigan State (3-0, 2009); vs. No. 16 Michigan (3-1, 2010); at No. 12 Purdue (3-0, 2012). ON DECK The Hawkeyes continue Big Ten action with a pair of matches on the road at Indiana on Nov. 22 and at Purdue on Nov. 23. The conference season concludes with a midweek home match against Nebraska on Nov. 27 and a weekend home competition against Ohio State on Nov. 30. She is joined by assistants Ben Boldt and Angie Boldt. Boldt enters his fifth season as an assistant coach and his first season as the recruiting coordinator at Iowa. Before joining the Hawkeyes, Boldt spent two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama. Prior to joining Alabama, Boldt served as a staff assistant for five seasons at the University of Nebraska. In his final season, the Cornhuskers finished 33-1 en route to the NCAA Championship. Angie Boldt enters her first season as an assistant coach after spending five seasons on staff as the director of volleyball operations. She came to Iowa City in 2008 after serving as the director of volleyball operations at Alabama for two seasons. Tanja Speaker is in her first season on staff as the director of operations. Before Iowa, she spent time as a game operations assistant for Texas Stars Hockey and a front desk agent at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center. Adam Rollman is in his second season as a volunteer assistant coach. Rollman previously served as a student assistant at Nebraska Wesleyan in 2011 and a student manager for Nebraska in the spring of 2012.
