1 G A M E #3 Sacred Heart Pioneers (0-2, 0-0 NEC) vs. Davidson Wildcats (1-0, Independent) Thursday, March 2, :00 pm Fairfield, Conn. - Campus Field (4,000) Pioneers Host Davidson Searching for First Win.. The Pioneers are coming off a 12-8 loss to Marist on Tuesday and are 0-2 to start a season for the first time since the 1998 campaign when they opened 0-4. SHU will be looking to break into the win column on Thursday afternoon when they welcome Davidson College to Campus Field. The Wildcats are 1-0 after beating Iona, 19-17, on Tuesday afternoon The Series... The Pioneers lead the all-time series, 1-0. SHU posted a 12-7 win in the first-ever meeting on March 4, 2004 on Campus Field in Fairfield. Up Next... The Pioneers will travel to West Palm Beach, Florida for Spring Break. 2 Head Coach Laura Cook The women s lacrosse program is under the direction of head coach Laura Cook, who has directed the Pioneers to a record of in her six seasons at Sacred Heart. The Media, Pennsylvania native has guided the Pioneers to three Northeast Conference Tournament appearances in her tenure. SHU is coming off a 10-6 season under Cook in 2005 and has posted four 10 win seasons in the past five years (2005, 2004, 2003, 2001). The Pioneers have had 14 All-Northeast Conference players under Cook. Joanne Montesarchio finished a stellar career last season for Cook, scoring 157 points in four years, the most all-time in the Division I era. Goalkeeper Ginny Capicchioni, a three-time All-NEC player, played for the coach in 2000 and 2001 and became the first female goalkeeper in the National Lacrosse League when she played in a preseason game for the New Jersey Storm in SHU Coaching Staff Head Coach: Laura Cook (UMass 99) Office: Fax: korutzl@sacredheart.edu Record at SHU: 58-41, 6th year Career Record: Same Assistant Coach: Chris Moynahan Assistant Coach: JoAnne Montesarchio Cook came to Sacred Heart after a standout playing career at the University of Massachusetts, where she graduated in 1999 with a degree in exercise science. She was a four-year starter with UMass and ranks among the program s top ten in scoring, goals and assists. During her senior season, she was named co-captain and was a preseason All-Atlantic 10 selection. She was also named to the 1999 A- 10 Championship tournament team, 1999 Northeast Regional All- American and placed on the 1999 IWCLA Academic All-American team. Last Meeting with Davidson... Natalie Smith and Maureen Hohn combined for nine goals as the Sacred Heart posted a 12-7 win over Davidson on March 4, Sacred Heart controlled play over the first half, running out to a 4-0 lead just over 10 minutes into play. The Wildcats finally got on the board at the 19:25 mark when Millie McKeachie connected on a pass from Lindsay Frank. The Pioneers answered back with a three goal run started by Hohn s third goal of the afternoon. Smith got her game started with twostraight as SHU went up 7-1. Smith and Hohn struck again in the second half giving SHU a 10-3 lead with 14:05 to play. Smith was unstoppable, scoring twice more and assisting on another SHU goal to put the game out of reach 12-5 with just over five minutes to go. Smith finished the day with five goals and six points in the win. Hohn had four goals with five ground balls with five draw controls. Scouting the Wildcats... The Davidson Wildcats return to Independent status this season after a four-year stint in the American Lacrosse Conference, one of the toughest Division I leagues in the nation and home to 2005 National Champion Northwestern. The Wildcats are 1-0 on their season-opening three-game road trip through the Northeast. Davidson took down Iona, with Sarah Walter, Eloise Gross and Emily Palmer each scored four goals while Kiften Stephens notched three with two assists for the Wildcats. Davidson returned 16 letterwinners from last year s 4-12 team. Last Time Out... Sophomore Jessica O Brien scored three times and assisted on another to lead the Marist College women s lacrosse team to a 12-8 road win at Sacred Heart. O Brien and freshman Megan White each scored goals in the first five minutes to give the Red Foxes a 2-0 lead. Junior Maureen Hohn and Mary Montesarchio evened it at 2-2 for the Pioneers with 20 minutes left in the first half. Marist scored four more times before the half to lead 6-3 at the intermission. Marist scored the first four goals of the second half, two of them from sophomore Val Amodeo, to take a commanding 10-3 lead 11 minutes into the period. Sacred Heart finally got the offense rolling and scored the next five in a row to close to Hohn had the last SHU tally with 9:22 to go in the game. Junior Brianna Bubeck had two scores during the Pioneer run. O Brien dashed the Pioneer hopes with an unassisted clinching goal with just 1:11 left in the game. History... This is the Pioneer s eighth year of competition in the Northeast Conference. Sacred Heart has qualified for the NEC Tournament four times and posts a Division I record. The Pioneers have posted 10 wins in each of the last three years and have not had a losing season since 1998.

5 Game #1 at Brown 2/25/06 The Pioneers dropped their 2006 seasonopener Saturday afternoon, falling at Brown, The Pioneers scored four times in the first half but were shutout in the second half en route to the loss. The Bears sprinted out to a five goal lead right out of the gates as five different Brown players found the back of the net. SHU finally got on the board in the 12th minute when junior Heather Gureckis scored unassisted. Gureckis scored her second two minutes later but two more Brown goals made the score 8-2 with 13 minutes left in the half. SHU sophomore Elizabeth Ottey and Mary Montesarchio each scored their first goals of the year but Brown added five more second half scores to their 9-4 halftime advantage to cement away the win.
