The Falcons start league action in Fort Collins, Colo., taking on the Rams at 7 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 22. Air Force will then head north to Laramie, Wyo., where they will face the Cowgirls in a 1 p.m. matchup on Saturday, Sept. 24. MATCH INFORMATION Both matches will be video streamed and have GameTracker access. Thursday s match will be available at while Saturday s contest can be found at Tickets for the match at are $6 for adults and $4 for children, while admission for the match are $5 (adults) and $3 (children). SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS is currently 6-3 and ranked 20th in the AVCA Coaches Poll, after losing two of its last three matches. is 9-5, after posting a 3-1 record at the College of Charleston Invitational last weekend. The Cowgirls will face conference newcomer on Sept. 22, before taking on the Falcons. SERIES HISTORY leads its series with Air Force by a 34-1 margin. The Falcons only win over the Rams came in leads the series by a 27-5 margin. Air Force last won match in that series in HOME SWEET HOME Claire Bieber will be playing in her hometown on Thursday night, as the sophomore grew up in Fort Collins and attended Fossil Ridge High School. Bieber made her collegiate debut last year at Moby Arena. FLYING ACES Air Force was ranked 28th out of 322 programs for aces per set in the NCAA standings that was released on Sept. 13. In addition, Air Force continues to lead the league with 1.50 aces per set. Josalynn Wise and Ayesha Hein are tied for first in single-match standings with their respective four-ace outings. CONFERENCE STANDINGS In addition to the Falcons standings in ace production, Air Force players are listed among the league s top 10 in other categories. Maiya Perich is ranked third with 4.59 digs per set, while Hillary Keltner is ranked eighth with 6.57 assists per set. Ayesha Hein is ranked fourth in hitting percentage (.343) and sixth in both kills (3.14 per set) and points (3.77 per set). Over three matches, Hein recorded 27 kills and a.279 hitting percentage. She also added three digs and six total blocks, including one solo stop. She posted double-figures in kills during both the Seattle (11) and Hofstra (10) matches, while hitting a match-best.450 (10k-1e-20a) against Hofstra. FALCONS HIT AT A SEASON-BEST.302 CLIP Air force hit a season-best.302 on Sept. 16, connecting on 42 of 96 attempts and committing just 13 errors. Kristen Holt paced the Falcons with a seasonbest.600 hitting percentage, accounting for six kills on 10 attempts and no errors. Megan Clary (.333, 5k-1e-12a) and Ayesha Hein (.318, 11k-4e-22a) each hit over.300 on the day. Both defensive specialists Emma Dridge and Maiya Perich went a perfect one-for-one, recording their first kills of the season. MORE ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS Ayesha Hein was named to the all-tournament team of the Falcon Invitational marking the third straight week that the freshman has earned all-tourney honors. She paced the Falcons in kills against SC Upstate (19) and Northern Arizona (10), while hitting a teamleading.571 (19K-3e-28a) against the Spartans and a.533 (9k-1e-15a) against Utah Valley. She also added three service aces, six digs and seven total blocks. COMING TOGETHER Against SC Upstate, the Falcons hit a season-best.293, connecting on 61 of 140 attempts with 20 errors. Highlighting the outing was a.423 performance in the second set (16k-5e-26a), while Air Force hit over.300 in all three of its winning sets (.378 in the first,.306 in the fourth). MORE AWARDS FOR THE FALCONS Maiya Perich was voted as the Best Libero of the Denver Invitational by the tournament coaches and Ayesha Hein was also selected to the all-tournament team. It is the second straight week that the pair has earned all-tournament honors. In addition, Perich was selected as the Academy s Athlete of the Week. MEET THE ALL-TOURNEY FALCONS Maiya Perich dug 70 balls over the weekend, led all players in digs during all three Air Force contests and successfully converted 104 of 110 serves. Ayesha Hein recorded 37 kills and eight total blocks over the three-match weekend, highlighted by a hitting clip of.500 (15k-1e-28a) in the Falcons win over Bryant. EQUAL MEASURES Cami Richan and Ayesha Hein combined for 30 kills as Air Force defeated Bryant in four sets (Sept. 2). Hein hit a team-best.500 during the match, connecting on 15 of 28 attempts, while committing just one error. CAN YOU DIG IT? Maiya Perich set a new Air Force Division I singlematch record on Sept. 1, as she accounted for 36 digs in the Falcons 3-2 loss to Denver. Perich, who easily broke the program s old record of 29, was one of three Falcons to tally double-digit dig totals as the squad combined for a season-best 80 total digs. GOOD COMPANY As the Division I single-match record-holder, Maiya Perich is in good company. Current assistant coach Louella Maxwell holds the program s all-time and Division II record with 45 digs in a match in COLLCTING A WIN On Aug. 30, Air Force collected its first set win over Northern Colorado (25-21) since IT S OFFICIAL Air Force is the youngest team in the country, as 93.7% of its roster is made up of freshmen and sophomores. The Falcons edged out Buffalo (92.8%), as those were the only two programs in the nation to feature a roster with at least 83% of its team in either their first or second-year of competition. STAT FACT In three matches, the Falcons accounted for 25 aces. That was one-fourth of the total number of aces that Air Force recorded all of last year (104). TAKING HOME THE HARDWARE Ayesha Hein and Maiya Perich were named to the all-tournament team of the Kristen Dickmann Invitational. Perich posted a team-leading 26 digs, while adding a pair of service aces. Hein had a stellar debut weekend for the Blue and Silver, accounting for a team-leading 26 kills,.333 hitting percentage, seven service aces and five total blocks. Hein was also selected as the Academy s Athlete of the Week. ON THE ROAD AGAIN Air Force s 3-0 sweep of service academy rival Navy on Aug. 27 marked the program s first true road win since Sept. 4, DID YOU KNOW? Air Force is now 9-1 all-time against Navy. OPENING WEEKEND RECAP The Falcons went 1-2 to open the 2011 season, falling to Bowling Green (0-3) and St. John s (0-3), before sweeping Navy in straight sets. THE YOUNG WILL LEAD With no seniors, one junior, four sophomores and eight freshmen, Air Force is the youngest squad in the Mountain West. LONE STAR STATE OF MIND Over half of the Falcons 13-player roster hails from the state of Texas. Casey Boyle (Dallas), Lizzy Carpenter (Murphy), Megan Clary (Sunnyvale), Emma Dridge (Allen), Victoria Foster (El Paso), Maiya Perich (Houston) and Josalynn Wise (Amarillo) all call Texas home. LEADING THE WAY Junior Maiya Perich and sophomore Claire Bieber were selected as co-captains of the 2011 squad. It is the first time since 2008 that two teammates have shared the captaincy duties.
