UIC owns an all-time record of in the tournament as it made a run in the regionals for fivestraight seasons from The team s most storied success came with its lone appearance in the College World Series in 1994, when head coach Lynn Curylo was on the team as a freshman. The Eugene Regional is the furthest the Flames have ever traveled in the postseason as their regional selection has primarily stayed in the Midwest. THE OUTLOOK UIC is seeking its first regional win since 2004 as it will be faced with its toughest competition of the season. Oregon is the highest seed the Flames will have faced after previously meeting with a top-10 opponent in Oklahoma. If matched, Wisconsin will be the fourth Big Ten foe for UIC while Missouri will be the second SEC opponent after taking on a ranked Kentucky team. ALL-TIME SERIES UIC owns a 3-2 record in the all-time series with Oregon after last facing one another in a nine-inning affair back in 2010 with the Ducks claiming a 6-5 win. The Flames last met with Wisconsin in 2013 and dropped a 2-1 decision in eight innings to move its all-time record to 4-9. The last matchup against Mizzou came in 2002 with UIC falling 11-8 for a 2-4 all-time record.

All it took was three wins for the Flames to take hold of the trophy and they did just that with an opening win over Wright State, 2-0, and then two 6-3 victories over Youngstown State. UIC s perfect 3-0 tournament record marked the first time since 2004 it went without a loss. REGULAR SEASON S FINEST The Flames finished at the top of the Horizon League for the third-consecutive season to claim the regular season title, marking the first time since the 2004, 2005 and 2006 seasons they completed the three-peat. UIC turned out a 20-4 conference record after winning seven of its eight series, including five three-game sweeps. The 20 wins set a program record for most league victories, surpassing a mark of 18 reached just last season. Additionally, their 35 regular season wins were the most for the program since 2005 when the team had 38. AND THE AWARD GOES TO... At the end of the regular season, the Horizon League handed out its postseason awards and the Flames were highly represented. Elaine Heflin became just the second player in program history after All-American Samantha Iuli (1998, 1999, 2000) to be named Pitcher of the Year three times. First-year head coach Lynn Curylo additionally took a top honor as she was named Coach of the Year. UIC also earned three First Team All-League nods for Heflin, Lexi Watts and Karissa Frazier. Jennah Speth, Kayla Wedl and Taylor Cairns were selected to the All-League Second Team, as Speth and Wedl also placed on the All-Freshman Team with fellow classman Allie Trudeau. HOW MANY IS TOO MANY? UIC claimed a combined nine Horizon League weekly honors, the most for any conference team, throughout the season. For five-straight weeks from April 3 to May 1, the Pitcher of the Week honor belonged to the Flames as Karissa Frazier, Elaine Heflin (2) and Allie Trudeau (2) were recognized. Kayla Wedl picked up the first Player of the Week nod of the season before Lexi Watts was awarded twice. ON THE HORIZON UIC stood as one of the best teams in the Horizon League all season long with its persistence at the plate. It sits at the top in batting average (.285), hits (440), triples (18), runs scored (252), RBI (220) and stolen bases (69). With an average 0.31 triples per game, the Flames rank 12th in the nation. CONTROL IN THE CIRCLE Not only did UIC possess the best pitching staff in the Horizon League all season, but also had one of the best in the nation. With its earned-run average never going above 3.00, its current mark of 2.05 ranks 27th nationally and is the best ERA for the Flames since the 2001 team s Their.214 opposing batting average is the lowest mark for the program since the 2000 team held foes to a.205 average, while their 12 saves set a program record for most in a single season. It has been a collective effort from the likes of Karissa Frazier (1.53 ERA), Allie Trudeau (2.00 ERA) and Elaine Heflin (2.03 ERA). In splitting all but two starts, they have each picked up at least 10 wins and three saves, and have aided in the team s 13 shutouts. Batters have been limited with Trudeau (.191) and Heflin (.193) turning out the best opposing averages. Having never allowed more than six hits in an appearance, Trudeau is 36th nationally in hits allowed per seven innings with a 4.71 average. Heflin has collected nearly half of the team s 306 strikeouts with 151 to top the Horizon League and rank 71st. SHE S A PITCHING MACHINE In her final season with the Flames, Elaine Heflin has reached several notable feats. She broke the 20- year old UIC strikeout record twice, first with 17 against Youngstown State (April 8) then again six days later with 18 against Northern Kentucky (April 14), and also tossed her first career no-hitter versus the Penguins. In the middle of the season across six appearances, she threw 39.2 shutout innings with 62 Ks and just eight hits allowed. In innings this season, she has struck out a league-leading 151, held foes to a minimal.193 batting average and tallied a 2.03 earned-run average. The three-time Pitcher of the Year, and Week, owns a 13-8 record, 5-2 HL, with a program single-season record five saves and has produced 11 complete games, five complete-game shutouts and two shared shutouts.

3 MEGA-WATTS Lexi Watts has been the top offensive threat all year for UIC. In just her second season, she became the all-time leader in steals, surpassing the mark of 62, after swiping 28 bases to bring her career total to 65. She tabbed the best batting average for the Flames all season, never dipping below.377, and currently sits with a dominating.399 average. Her team-high 24 multi-hit games has contributed to her 75 hits that rank 16th in the nation, as she is the first UIC player since 2005 (Cameron Astiazaran, 102) to have at least 75 hits. FRESHMEN MAKING IT LOOK EASY Jennah Speth and Kayla Wedl have been nothing short of impressive at the plate in their first collegiate seasons. Speth (.320) and Wedl (.308) own the second- and third-best batting averages for UIC this season and have combined for 11 of the team s 26 home runs. They additionally go one-two in runs driven in as Speth has turned out 31 RBI and Wedl has added 30. The freshmen dominance carries over into the circle where Allie Trudeau leads the starting rotation in opposing average (.191) and fewest hits allowed (66) while she has turned out the second-best ERA (2.00) and strikeout total (82). Her ERA is the best for a UIC freshman pitcher since Alycia Creese s 1.50 in BACK IN THE WINDY CITY Lynn Curylo returned to her alma mater to become the seventh head coach in program history after spending six seasons at the helm of Wright State. Curylo starred as an outfielder for the Flames from She was a member of the Hall of Fame 1994 squad that posted 56 victories and made it all the way to Oklahoma City with the program s sole Women s College World Series berth. She was a twotime All-MCC First Team selection and scattered her name in the record book with games played in a single season (80, 1997), triples in a season (6, 1996) and career triples (12). #SWAB2SAVE, ONE TEAM AT A TIME Karissa Frazier has been making a difference off the field this season as she is working with Gift of Life as a Campus Ambassador to aid in the #swab2save campaign and swab those interested in being added to the worldwide bone marrow registry. With over 600 people swabbed in less than a year, she tried to expand her efforts and swab every Horizon League softball team, and she did just that aside from Valparaiso, who swabbed as a team earlier in the year. She looks to continue her efforts and hopefully take it a step further and swab at the College World Series in Oklahoma City. FLAMES RECORD WHEN...
