Moriah has had an unusual and difficult path to arrive at Denver and that path lends important context to her truly amazing career as a University of Denver gymnast. At the JO level, in 2006 she finished 4th in the all-around at the JO National Championship and made the Junior Olympic National Team. In subsequent months, gymnastics became increasingly difficult and she quit the sport in January of She tried to resume the following summer but to no avail; she had lost the ability to perform even the most basic gymnastics movements. The reason for her difficulties became evident in November: she was diagnosed with thyroid disease and began treatment. A year later she began to train again, her skills slowly returned and by the end of the year she was prepared to compete again for the first time in two years. Fate was not kind and on January 2nd of 2009 she ruptured her Achilles tendon. To complicate matters, her thyroid hormone levels were out of control and medications were failing to alleviate the situation. In the midst of rehabilitating her Achilles tendon, in July of 2009, she had her thyroid removed. The road back was long and arduous; returning to gymnastics would be difficult, returning to her former level and competing in college a tremendous achievement. Moriah returned to the competition floor in January of She eventually qualified for the JO National Championship, placing 10th in the nation. Moriah came to Denver as a walk-on for the season. It was clear she had a huge heart and we felt she had a tremendous upside. She came with the added commitment from us that we would offer a scholarship the following year if she could continue to improve and both train and compete at a high level. She earned the scholarship and since that time has exceeded expectations. She has won numerous titles and become a two time national qualifier. In 2013 she was an event finalist on vault and a first team all-american. In the gym, Moriah is a constant source of light. She makes the training environment fun and if she s not singing, she s dancing. She helps keep her teammates relaxed when they re competing and knows how to step up when it s required. On the competition floor she is a leader by example. In the gym, she continues to improve on her skills and readiness for competition. Outside of the gym, Moriah is a Psychology major carrying a 3.08 GPA. She is involved in the community with our team, volunteering her time at events such as the Race for the Cure, Fans on the Field and the 9News Colorado Shares food drive. Moriah is an outstanding representative of our sport and our university. She has endured much to achieve her results and continues to have an outstanding career. She is well deserving of the AAI award presented to the nation s top gymnast.

A two-time Academic All-MAC selection, she has always understood the importance of the student in student-athlete. Petzold also takes part in CMU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee community service events throughout the year including can food drives, clothing collections and events at local elementary schools. She is also a part of the CMU gym school, teaching young girls and boys about the joys of gymnastics. After graduation, Brittany plans to attend graduate school to earn her master s in sport administration MAC Champion (UB) 2011 All-MAC: 1st Team

13 Joanna Sampson University of Michigan, Coach: Bev Plocki Vault: Uneven Bars: Balance Beam: Floor Exercise: All-Around: NCAA Floor Exercise Champion 2013 NCAA All-American: 1st Team (AA, VT, FX) 2013 Big Ten Women s Gymnast of the Year 2013 NCAA Northeast Region Gymnast of the Year University of Michigan Female Athlete of the Year 2013 NACGC/W All-American: 1st Team (AA, VT, FX) 2013 NACGC/W All-American: 2nd Team (UB) 2013 NCAA Morgantown Regional Champion (UB) 2013 All-Big Ten Championships Team 2013 Big Ten Championships Runner-Up (FX) 2012 All-Big Ten Championships Team 2012 NCAA Auburn Regional Champion (VT) 2012 Big Ten Championships Runner-Up (VT) 2012 NCAA Championships Individual Qualifier (VT) 2011 NCAA Ann Arbor Regional Champion (VT) 2011 Big Ten Championships Runner-Up (FX) If past growth is any indication, 2014 will be the biggest year yet for University of Michigan senior Joanna Sampson. Thanks large in part to a tireless work ethic in the gym, Sampson has evolved into one of the nation s elite all-around gymnasts. Last year was her strongest to date, as her junior season culminated in an individual national championship on floor exercise, putting her in elite company as only the fourth U-M gymnast to win an individual national title in the nearly 40 years of the program -- and very first on floor exercise. For her efforts, she was named 2013 Big Ten and NCAA Northeast Region Gymnast of the Year and University of Michigan Female Athlete of the Year, claiming eight all-around titles and 24 individual event titles. A two-year team captain, Sampson has been a part of two Big Ten championship teams and has competed at all three NCAA Championships during her career -- twice with the team (2011, 2013) and once as an individual qualifier (2012). For her career, Sampson has scored at-or-above in the all-around in 25 career meets, which includes five performances of or-higher. Joanna has shown no signs of slowing down as a senior. As of Feb. 7, Sampson has won the all-around and taken first on floor exercise in each of the team s first five meets of the season. She is averaging in the all-around -- good enough for fifth in the nation -- scoring above in two of those five meets. She s also having her best year in the classroom, as her 3.62 GPA from the fall semester was her highest to date at the University of Michigan, which will lead her to being named an Academic All-Big Ten selection later this spring. Outside the gym, Sampson tutors and works with students at Pittsfield Elementary School in Ann Arbor twice per week. She is also a frequent visitor to C.S. Mott Children s Hospital and has participated in the University of Michigan s Mock Rock, The Buddy Walk and the American Cancer Society s Making Strides Towards Breast Cancer. She will graduate in May with a degree in sociology.

At the 2013 NCAA Championships, Shealy posted ISU s highest balance beam finish in school history by finishing fifth. In the semifinals of the beam competition, Shealy posted her careerhigh score to advance to the final six of the event. A two-time NCAA Championships All-Around qualifier, Shealy has been a star since the day she stepped onto Iowa State s campus. As a freshman, Shealy was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and showed her dominance throughout the season by earning three Big 12 Newcomer awards and a Big 12 Gymnast honor. While Shealy has been a star in competition, she has also stood out in the classroom. A two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection, Shealy was recognized as a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society in 2013 for maintaining at least a 3.40 GPA during her first two years at Iowa State. She has made multiple appearances on the Dean s List at Iowa State and has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner s Honor Roll during each semester she has been at Iowa State Big 12 Newcomer of the Year 2011 Big 12 Gymnast 2011 Three-Time Big 12 Newcomer

Her contributions and leadership at OU will leave a legacy that will extend far beyond her four seasons as a Sooner. Since Spears arrival at Oklahoma, the Sooners have posted two topthree Super Six finishes in three NCAA Championship appearances. Spears has helped elevate the OU program to new heights and in the process has become a two-time NCAA All-American, three-time NACGC All-American, three-time Big 12 champion, five-time All-Big 12 selection and the 2013 Big 12 Gymnast of the Year. The Plano, Texas native owns 32 career event titles at Oklahoma (four in 2013) and is a 12-time Big 12 weekly award winner. She has earned a welldeserved reputation as one of the most exquisite beam workers in the country and is currently ranked No. 5 nationally on the event. During her impressively dominant junior campaign in 2013, she finished the regular season ranked No. 1 nationally on beam, No. 6 on bars and No. 13 in the all-around. Equally impressive, however, is Spears dedication to the community in and around Norman. She has made time to give back as much as possible, volunteering with local organizations such as the YMCA and the J.D. McCarty center. Spears and OU gymnasts have played with children and taught basic gymnastics skills at both organizations. She has volunteered with the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Central Oklahoma every year, assisting with the annual Race for the Cure in Oklahoma City. Spears has also spent time volunteering at a local shelter in Norman, participating in a local can drive with her teammates, and adopting an angel through the local Salvation Army each holiday season. Spears is set to graduate with a bachelor s degree in communications. She hopes to pursue a career in fashion or athletic public relations upon graduation.

The three-time co-captain has excelled on the competition floor as a beam specialist, earning Pac-12 Specialist of the Year honors in 2013 and claiming the 2012 Champaign Regional title. She has accumulated 11 individual victories on beam and hit 100 percent of her routines throughout her collegiate career. Along with providing big and consistent scores in competitions, Spinner has been an instrumental leader and mentor to teammates. Amanda is a role model for many, the truest definition of a scholarathlete at Stanford. She is an outstanding student, a leader in the community, a tremendous athlete and a team player. She is a two-time Academic All-American, boasting a 3.5 GPA while majoring in Economics, which is an extremely rigorous program at Stanford. Amanda also volunteers for different organizations and devotes a great deal of her time and energy to serving the community. Amanda has utilized her position to advance causes in the community. Throughout her career, she has initiated outreach activities for children, the disadvantaged, and the elderly. In the gym, Amanda is the quintessential team player, a natural leader, motivator, and ambassador for the team and the program. It is Amanda s strength of character, her heart, her commitment, her effort, and her drive that earned her the title of team captain three years in a row. She was also voted Cardinal Gymnast of the Year, the highest honor, last year as a junior. Even as a freshman, Amanda made her mark on the program even when she was sidelined due to injuries sustained before arriving at Stanford. After four knee surgeries, two elbow surgeries, and being encouraged to retire by team doctors, Amanda refused to give up the sport and defied all odds to become one of the team s strongest balance beam competitors. Amanda earned All-American honors in 2012 and helped lead the team to a 4th place finish.

Wong is known for her contagious smile that shines brightest when she is with her friends, family and while performing her floor routine that earned her third-place at the NCAA Championships last year. Her smile has helped her overcome many challenges over the years, including the recent passing of her father last October. Wong competes this season with a heavy heart as she wishes her father was still cheering her on in the stands, as he did every meet since she started competing as a little girl. This setback has not slowed her down but instead has fueled her to one of the best senior seasons by a Nebraska gymnast. Through five meets in 2014, Wong has captured 16 event titles, remaining undefeated in the all-around and on floor, while posting some of the top scores in the country. Her senior season has been dedicated to her father and her incredible strength has inspired the entire Nebraska gymnastics team to one of the best starts to a season since As a junior, Wong tied for third nationally in the all-around at the 2013 NCAA Championships. Her seamless performance included a third place finish on floor and a 10th place finish on vault. An eight-time All-American in competition Wong has earned countless all-conference awards during her time at NU. In March of 2013 she became the first Big Ten gymnast to win back-to-back conference all-around titles since Penn State s Brandi Personett ( ). Her four awards at the 2013 conference championships were the most in a single season for any Husker since Emily Parsons captured four honors in The Grand Forks, N.D., native has captured over 40 event titles throughout her career as a Husker and has spent most of her senior season ranked in the top-5 nationally in the all-around and on floor. Wong is not only defined by her exceptional performances in the gym, but also her work in the classroom. She has earned numerous academic awards as a nutrition, health and exercise sciences major, including Academic All- America honors, three-time NACGC/W Scholastic All-America accolades and Academic All-Big Ten honors. In February of this year, Wong was named the Wayne Duke Postgraduate Scholarship Award winner, and is to be honored at the 2014 Big Ten Men s Basketball tournament in Indianapolis. Wong has been a staple in the Lincoln community and has participated in an array of outreach activities through the Nebraska Life Skills program. She has volunteered with a variety of programs, including elementary and middle school visits, Breast Cancer Awareness events, Lincoln Children s Zoo Boo at the Zoo and Cedars Youth Services. Wong will graduate in December of 2014 with a Bachelor s degree in nutrition, exercise and health sciences.
