2 TECHNICAL DELEGATE OF INDONESIA 2018 ASIAN PARA GAMES THANK YOU MESSAGE The past five days of the Volleyball-Sitting, Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games have been a very memorable experience for me and I hope for all the participating teams from China, Indonesia, IR Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Mongolia, Myanmar, and all the International and National Technical Officials, Assistant Technical Officials, SSIC & Volunteers at the Volleyball-Sitting event of the Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games, too. Every event presents itself differently in terms of not only the venue and facilities, the host & LOC working environment and the culture. My experience here has been truly enriching in that those involved directly with me have the expertise and knowledge in the necessary work to facilitate the successful organising of this event to the international standard required by the World ParaVolley. I would like to thank the Indonesia Asian Para Games Organising Committee (INAPGOC) for its success in conducting the preparation and running of this event. I understand the great challenges endured and I salute your commitment and hard work in always trying your best to improve. WELL DONE!!! To all the International Delegate and Technical Officials and teams, I hope we will all return to our homes bringing wonderful memories of our short stay here in Jakarta and made new friends from all over Asia and the world. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a pleasant and safe journey home to their loved ones. 20 Athlete Feature - Erik Kaskabayev (#No 15) By Laurent Torrecillas The 32 years old Kazakhstan setter started playing sitting volleyball in 2002 when he was 16. The coach of the local club of Kyzylordq City invited him to play, marking the debut of his international sport career three years later. Erik is very grateful for volleyball as it offered him a second chance in life. In 1993 on his way back home after a school day, Erik was hit by a train and lost his two legs. «I crossed the railway line without paying attention at the train which was arriving Younger, I was going into a lot of behavioral problems, creating troubles and lacking discipline». Today, a husband and father of four, he works as an IT engineer. Sitting volleyball is my second life. It not only allowed him to travel, discover new countries and cities, meet new friends with health issues and physical impairments. Most importantly, it helped me going back on the right track, being more disciplined and focused. Erik describes the sport as extremely demanding physically, mentally and strategically. As a setter, he always strives to put his teammates in the best position to challenge their opponents and score a point. He has this team spirit which makes him a positive and natural leader. Participating in the Paralympics before retiring as a player represents his ultime objective after he and his teammates won the Bronze medal at the Youth ParaVolley World Championships in This medal was my best moment ever. I would love to live this emotion again at the Paralympics before transitioning into a coaching career and empower young players through sitting volleyball.
