Nov. 16, 2014 NOVEMBER 9 Memphis vs. Tulane (5-21, 3-11 AAC) 12 p.m. Memphis leads the all-time series Tigers swept the Green Wave in New Orleans earlier this year TIGERS BEGIN FOUR MATCH HOMESTAND First Serve The Memphis volleyball team welcomes Houston and Tulane to the Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Friday and Sunday as the Tigers look back to get back to their winning ways after dropping three-of-four. Earlier this season the Tigers dropped a four-set decision to the Cougars in the Space City. The Blue and Gray had more success against the Green Wave, sweeping Tulane in New Orleans. Memphis Head Coach April Jauregui ( ), who is in her seventh-year at the helm of the volleyball program, became the third head coach to eclipse the 100-win plateau on Oct. 5 in the teams three-set sweep of SMU. A victory this weekend would give Jauregui and the Tigers the first 20-win season since 2011 and would be the first time since 2007 a Memphis team has won 20 matches with 10 conference wins. Freshman Oluchi Agomuo notched 16 kills and hit.389 in her return trip to her hometown. Last Time Out vs. Tulane In the prior matchup this season, Memphis swept the Green Wave, holding Tulane to a.089 hitting percentage and forced 19 errors as the Tigers picked up the victory. Freshman Kate Gibson recorded her 10th game with at least 10 kills and hit a season-best.440 in the win. Memphis currently ranks seventh in the country in digs-per-set, averaging through the first 28 matches of the season and is at the top of the American Conference with 1,916 total digs over 109 sets. Senior Aleksandra Petronijevic broke the school s all-time dig mark in the teams five-set victory over Mississippi State. The Serbian covered the court with ease, recording an astounding 35 digs in the match. The libero now has 2,171 digs in her career and ranks seventh in the NCAA and at the top of the American Conference individually with 5.44 digs/set. Additionally, Petronijevic has the sixth-most career digs of active players across the country. The senior topped her earlier performance in the five-set come-from-behind victory over Tulsa on Oct. 3, recording 37 digs, one away from a career-high. On the weekend of Oct. 20, Petronijevic racked up 49 digs, including 33 against UCF to earn the conference s Defensive Player of the Week honors. In the second match against SMU, Petronijevic tallied 36 digs in four sets, the best mark of her career in a four-set match. The libero has nine-matches this season of at least 25 digs, including six contests with 30 or more digs. Single Season Digs Player Digs Season 1. Gibson leads the team while Agomuo is third. Gibson was named to the American Athletic Conference weekly honor roll after her performance in New England earlier this season. In the month of October, the freshman had matches of 20, 7, 15, 16, 8, 4, 10 and 14 kills, respectively, over the past four weeks. The Sedalia, Colo., native has recorded 11 double-doubles, including four-straight matches from Sept as well as the Maroon Classic Tournament MVP. Gibson logged a pair of season-highs against Mercer when she recorded 19 kills and a.381 hitting percentage. Gibson became the first Tiger to eclipse the 20 kill plateau when she paced the offense in the come-back victory over Tulsa on Oct. 3 and cracked the 200-kill plateau on Oct. 10 against UConn. She saw her three-match streak of double-doubles snapped on Friday against SMU, but she still managed nine kills. Freshman Oluchi Agomuo has also accounted for 269 kills through the first 28 matches, good for the third-best line on the team. At the Lady Vol Classic, the Texas native set new season-bests in assists (1), kills (16), hitting percentage (.324), digs (15), blocks (4.0) and points (18.0) in Knoxville and in her return trip to Houston, again logged 16 kills and topped her hitting percentage at.389. The freshman played outstanding defense in the first matchup against Temple, tallying a season-best 17 digs. Agomuo tallied her best performance of the season in the five-set loss to UCF with 19 kills. Overall, the Texan has notched at least five kills in all-but four matches this season. All-Wright, All-wright, all-wright Senior Lauren Wright, the Tigers lone member on the preseason All-Conference team, picked up her 1,000th career point on Aug. 30 against Alabama and her 1,000th career kill in the second set against USF on Oct. 19. The Texas native needs six kills to move into 18th-place in the all-time record book in kills. Wright currently ranks fifth in the American Athletic Conference and 89th nationally in hitting-percentage at.344. The percentage would go down as the fifth-most efficient number in school history. With 271 career block assists, the senior moved into ninth-place all-time. Earlier this season at the Lady Vol Classic, Wright logged 19 kills against Austin Peay, the second-highest mark in her illustrious career. Wright has recorded five straight games with double-digit kills. The senior has been the mark of consistency all season for the Tigers, recording at least seven kills in every match she has started and surpassing double-digits on 18 different occasions. Hamilton Classic in St. Louis, junior setter Veronica Zimmerman was named to the All-Tournament team after three-straight double-double performances. The Toledo, Ohio, native moved into eighth-place in the all-time record book against Ole Miss and surpassed 2,000 assists against UT Martin. Zimmerman is fourth in the American in assists/set in both league play and overall. The junior has six matches this season of better than 50 dimes. Zimmerman ranks ninth in the NCAA with 1091 assists. Zimmerman moved into fourth place all-time against Cincinnati with her 30 assist effort in the win over the Bearcats. Overall, Wesley sits at 38th in the country in total blocks. The middle blocker has logged 19 solo blocks and 103 assisted rejections through the first 28 matches. Wesley leads the league in total blocks/game during conference play. The junior also ranks seventh in league play in hitting percentage at.310. The nine block assists on Oct. 10 against UConn were the third best mark in school history. Spark from the bench Sophomore McKenzie Hayes provided a shot-in-the-arm for the Tigers offense during the team s loss to Temple. In the third set, the Tell City, Ind., native nailed her first five attempts and recorded her first career service ace. The sophomore has helped Memphis add 35 kills off the bench and eight blocks. Junior Lindsey Purvis has helped shore up the Tigers serving game this season. The Germantown, Tenn., native has 21 aces on the year to go along with 69 digs. Purvis has three matches this season with three aces. The junior has equaled her best career totals, needing only one more ace to set a personal-record.
