STREAKING after dropping the first three matches of the 2018 season to ranked opponents, the Vikings have rattled off 23 consecutive victories won 69 of 79 sets during the win streak also won 36 consecutive GNAC matches (dating back to last season) and 28 consecutive inside Carver Gym the win streak is tied for the 2 nd -longest active winning streak in NCAA II behind Spring Hill (24) and tied with Wheeling Jesuit. GNAC CHAMPIONS WWU clinched the outright GNAC championship and with two wins this week will set the conference record for GNAC wins in a season marks the 9 th GNAC title for the Vikings and second straight after winning the title with a 19-1 record in REGIONAL RANKINGS the Vikings have been ranked No. 1 both of the NCAA Division II West Region rankings that have been released there will be one additional ranking this Wednesday, and then the NCAA II selection show will air Sunday evening the NCAA Regional Rankings are the determining factor to set the NCAA Division II West Regional field, with the GNAC, PacWest and CCAA each getting one automatic bid the No. 1 team in the regional rankings decides the host. SENIOR CELEBRATION the five-member senior class was honored prior to Saturday s final home regular-season match in Carver Gym Abby Phelps, Brette Boesel, Michaela Hall, Aubrey Stephens and Taylor Lyall are all in their fifth year after redshirting as true freshman, and have helped the program to one of the most successful four-year stretches in program history during their four seasons on the court ( ), the seniors have helped lead WWU to a record (.826) and will appear in the NCAA Championships each season. COMFY IN CARVER WWU finished the regular season 10-0 at home on WECU Court in Carver Gym also perfect at 10-0 at home last season, returning to Carver Gym after a two-year renovation was completed, and have a current 28-match Carver Gym winning streak Diane Flick-Williams has led the program to a (.909) record inside Carver Gym (61-4 since 2010). ABOUT LAST WEEK the Vikings swept both matches last week, defeating Western Oregon (25-7, 25-15, 25-8) and Concordia (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) to close out the portion of the regular-season home schedule Abby Phelps recorded a team-high 26 kills in the two matches, averaging 4.33 kills per set Kayleigh Harper hit.390 while averaging 3.50 kills per set and had 12 blocks (2.00/set) Brette Boesel averaged assists per set to move up to 7 th in the nation in assists per set overall the Vikings hit.295 in the two matches and averaged digs per set. 3 PLAYER OF THE WEEK (AGAIN) Kayleigh Harper was named the GNAC Volleyball Player of the Week, earning offensive honors for Sept , her third weekly honor this season in two victories vs. the Alaska schools, Harper led the Vikings averaging 3.43 kills per set while hitting an efficient.354 also averaged 2.14 blocks per set marks the sixth GNAC weekly award of her career. SAME AUBREY, NEW LAST NAME senior libero Aubrey Stephens may not sound familiar to WWU fans, but her play on the court sure will the former Aubrey Buckner got married during the offseason and the fifth-year senior now goes by the last name of Stephens Stephens became the 14 th player in program history to record 1,000 digs (currently 11 th with 1,169 career digs) and is 4 th in WWU history averaging 4.75 digs per set Stephens was named honorable mention All- GNAC in 2017 ranking 4 th in the conference with 5.26 digs per set currently 4 th in the GNAC averaging 4.92 digs per set in PHELPS SETS GNAC RECORD Abby Phelps was named the GNAC Defensive Player of the Week for matches of Oct was her third award this season and the eighth of her career, setting the all-time GNAC record for conference player of the week awards moving past SPU s Alyssa Given. EVERY SET BRETTE Brette Boesel has appeared in every set and match in her career dating back to her freshman season in 2015 has appeared in all 121 matches and 426 sets, with the Vikings recording a (.826) record during this span (71-7 in GNAC play) Boesel is 12 th in program history in matches played and tied for 3 rd in sets played. NCAA HISTORY WWU advanced to the West Regional Final for the third consecutive season last year, marking the program s 12th appearance in the NCAA Division II West Regional and 6th consecutive trip to the postseason set the program record with a fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA II Tournament in 2015 when it advanced to the NCAA II Elite 8 (and Final Four) WWU is alltime in the NCAA Tournament and is one of two GNAC schools to win a West Regional title.
