2 Arizona Christian University Head Coach Men's Indoor: 1 year (2018-present) What made you decide to get into coaching volleyball? My first experience on a organized volleyball team was my senior year of high school. I played a lot of beach volleyball with friends but nothing very formal with the exception of the AZ Region beach tournaments. I loved the game but I was still honing in my skills because I knew I wanted to play in college. After playing a little tennis at a Juco I finally went off to play volleyball in Canada at Columbia Bible College and I later finished my volleyball career at Grand Canyon University. Upon graduation and getting married I was off to pursue a career in...i have no idea! I had never considered coaching for fun, money, or career. I went from not being a part of the volleyball world to being in the volleyball world full time in about a year. Boy's volleyball for jr. high in the fall, high school in the spring, and running the AZ Region Beach tournaments all summer. I found the high school coaching position but the other positions found me. This was the beginning of God bringing me to wear I can have maximum impact on young men and women's lives. I believe that I had two passions ignited in my first year playing collegiate volleyball at a small Bible college in Canada. One was passion for volleyball that gave me an opportunity to compete and continually strive for excellence on the court. The other was my faith that brought meaning and purpose to my life. Now, as a coach, I am able to lead young athletes both in their sport and faith. There are many rewarding careers out there but there is something beautiful and unique about the impact of a coach. What are your career goals in the sport? "Winning is the goal and growth is the means" When I first started coaching I took time to consider what my philosophy and approach would be. I ultimately decided that the goal is always to win but that will only come through consistent and continuous growth. This is the same mindset I take into my career as a coach. There are teams in our conference that we have still never beat. This is the first goal on the agenda. I want to develop our athletes to a point where we are recognized with our first All-American athletes. I want to see excellence on the court that leads to becoming both regular season and conference tournament champions. All of this would be history for our school but on top of all of that we want to make it to the NAIA National Championship tournament! The battle is within ourselves to rise to new heights and overcome fears of failure and of the uncertain future. Competitors are comrades and we are all on the same mission. We are all seeking success and that success is found in pursuing our potential. What does receiving this award mean to you? It is honor to receive this award as I often times still think of myself as that young teenager just having fun playing a sport that I loved with my friends. I never imagined that the sport of volleyball would have had such a a profound impact on my life and my career. My hope is that this

3 recognition would serve as a catalyst to continue to drive me to grow as a coach and leader. I want my continued development to make a lasting difference with my volleyball program, my university, and in the community as a whole. Additional Comments:
