3 BRAZILIAN BEACH VOLLEYBALL - The Brazilians have dominated the combined 442 SWATCH FIVB World Tour event podiums with 653 major medals, including two Olympic and seven world championship titles. Brazil has captured 256 of the 442 major event titles (58%), including 152 for men and 104 for women. With a combined 796 major final four finishes, Brazil has failed to reach the semi-finals in a SWATCH FIVB World Tour event in only 27 of the 442 events (12 of the 242 men s tournaments and 15 of the 200 women s events). In addition, the Brazilians have won the most challenger/satellite events (29, 22 for men and seven for women). Brazil is one of only two countries, the United States is the other, to have at least two men's and two women's teams in each of the three Olympics. Brazilian Men - Except for the 2002 and 2009 seasons, Brazil has dominated international competition since Argentina s Mariano Baraceti and Martin Conde claimed the 2002 SWATCH FIVB World Tour championships with Germany s Julius Brink andjonas Reckermann capturing the 2009 season s tour title. The legendary American tandem of Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos ranked as the top team during the early years ( ) of the SWATCH FIVB World Tour along with Jan Kvalheim and Bjorn Maaseide of Norway (1995). Athens 2004 Olympic champions Emanuel Rego and Ricardo Santos captured five-straight SWATCH tour titles ( ) as both players have teamed with other individuals to claim the annual tour championship. Emanuel won tour titles with Ze Marco de Melo (1996 and 1997), Jose Loiola (1999) and Tande Ramos (2001). Ricardo captured the 2000 tour points championship with Ze Marco. Other Brazilians to win the points crowns were Roberto Lopes/Franco Neto ( ), Para Ferreira /Guilherme Marquez (1998) and Harley Marques/Pedro Salgado (2008). Emanuel has earned 33 of his record 69 SWATCH FIVB World Tour gold medals with Ricardo, who ranks second all-time with 49. The pair also added a satellite gold medal to their total at the end of the 2005 season in Argentina. Emanuel and Ricardo also top the career FIVB team list in earnings ($1,856,530) as both players rank 1-2 in individual career international earnings. Emanuel has earned $1,993,935 for 193 events while Ricardo has netted $1,400,245 in 153 events. Emanuel has played in the most FIVB events (193) with 951 match wins. Marcio Araujo and Fabio Magalhaes have won 11 SWATCH gold medals since forming their partnership at the start of the 2005 season, including the 2005 SWATCH FIVB World Championships. Franco, who is at the end of his 20th season of SWATCH participation, has compiled 16 gold medals, 51 podium placements and 65 final four finishes in 168 events since The 42-year old Franco became the oldest player to win an open event by teaming with Pedro Cunha to capture a 2007 gold medal in Marseille, France. Cunha also won two SWATCH FIVB Junior (U21) World Championship titles in 2001 and Pedro Salgado, who also won two U21 titles in 2003 and 2006, has won 10 SWATCH FIVB World Tour gold medals before his 24th birthday. Brazilian Women - Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca have emerged from the shadows of legendary Brazilian women s teams of Sandra Pires/Jackie Silva and Adriana Behar/Shelda Bede to become the topranked team on the SWATCH-FIVB World Tour s point. Juliana and Larissa have clinched their fourth SWATCH FIVB World Tour championship after winning the 2005, 2006 and 2007 tour titles. For 72 SWATCH FIVB World Tour events since forming their partnership in 2004, Juliana and Larissa have won 29 gold medals with 45 appearances in the finals. Only Brazilians Adriana Behar and Shelda Bede (31 titles, $2,207,965) have won more FIVB gold medals and earnings than Juliana and Larissa. Sandra and Jackie captured the Atlanta 1996 Olympic gold medal before winning the 1997 SWATCH FIVB World Championships in Los Angeles.
