Sitting Volleyball Rules Please note: The 2014 Warrior Games is not a qualifying event for the Paralympic Games or any other U.S. Paralympics or International Paralympic Committee sanctioned event. Team Composition This tournament will consist of five (5), 12 player (maximum) teams with no substitutes. The five teams will represent the Army, Marine Corps, Navy/Coast Guard, Air Force and SOCOM. Key Rule Modifications from World ParaVolley Official Sitting Volleyball Rules GENERAL EVENT RULES Tournament Format: Teams will play four (4) matches operating in a round-robin format. Teams will then be seeded to play the bronze and gold medal matches. Players will be required to wear their bib numbers on the back of their uniform to track serving order and substitutions for the scorekeepers. All matches will be the best two out of three sets. To win either set one or set two, a team must earn 25 points and have a two point advantage over their opponent. If a team does not have a two point advantage, then play will continue until such advantage by either team is gained. Should the teams each win one set, then a third set will be played. To win set three, a team must earn 15 points and have a two point advantage over their opponent. If a team does not have a two point advantage, then play will continue until such advantage by either team is gained. In the event of a tie at the conclusion of round robin play, the seeds will be determined based on the following methods. For a tie between two teams, the winner of the match between the two teams in the round robin play will advance as the higher seed. For a tie between three or more teams, the set quotient, or total number of sets won divided by the total number of sets lost, for all pool play matches, of the teams involved in the tie, will determine how the teams are seeded. If this does not break the tie; then the each team s point quotient, or total number of points won divided by the total number of points lost, for all pool play matches of the teams involved in the tie will determine how the teams are seeded. If this does not break the tie, then a coin toss will be conducted to determine who the highest seed will be. These processes do not repeat once the tie is broken.
Modifications or additions are noted in Italics and Underlined. A note about the change may be listed in Bold below the modification. 1.1 The playing court is a rectangle measuring 10 m x 6 m, surrounded by a free zone which is recommended to be a minimum of 3 m wide on all sides. 2 Net and Posts This recommendation will be implemented when facility space allows. All efforts will be made to create the minimum amount of free space surrounding the court to give players ample room to continue play. All efforts will be made to set up the net conforming to the requirements as stated, using the equipment and facilities provided A team may consist of a maximum of 10 players. No more than 5 coaches and staff are permitted to be on the team bench, and must also be listed on the roster. Each team will submit a roster that includes uniform numbers and classification status for each player prior to the start of the tournament, and no changes will be accepted Deleted Deleted Deleted Please review the Warrior Games Sitting Volleyball Classification sheet regarding team composition and play (Attachment 1). WOVD Rule based upon International Score Sheet not being used. Players uniforms will be governed by Warrior Games rules. A captain s stripe on the jersey is not required Prior to the match, the team captain represents his/her team in the toss Deleted There is no need to sign the score sheet as the score will be recorded on the USA Volleyball domestic score sheet. WOVD Rule based on the use of an International Score Sheet The assistant coach may stand in the free zone near their team s bench to provide instruction to their team, but has no right to intervene in the match.
6.2 To Win A Set Assistant coaches should have the ability to approach the court and provide instructions to their team members. Only the Head Coach may speak to the referee for any requests or questions. A set (except the deciding, 3rd set) is won by the team which first scores 25 points with a minimum lead of two points. In the case of a tie, play is continued until a two-point lead is achieved (26 24; 27 25; ). All matches are the best of 3 sets The match is won by the team that wins two sets In the cast of a 1-1 tie, the deciding set (the 3 rd ) is played to 15 points with a minimum lead of 2 points. 6.4 Deleted The Warrior Games leadership will make appropriate decisions to handle any matter that prevents play from beginning or ending according to the rules of play Prior to the match, teams will have a warm-up period consisting of 2 minutes of shared court time away from the net, 6 minutes of shared hitting at the net, and 1 minute of shared court serving If either captain requests separate (consecutive) hitting at the net, the teams may do so for 3 minutes each. The defined warm-up period will begin at the appropriate time in consideration of the scheduled match start time There must always be six players per team in play. The six players on the court may include a maximum of two (2) able-bodied players, a maximum of four (4) minimal disability players, and minimum of two (2) permanent disability players. If one or no able bodied players are on the court, then their positions may be utilized by one or two additional minimal disability or permanent disability players. If one or no minimal disability players are on the court, then their positions may be utilized by one or two additional permanent disability players only. All six players on the court may be of the permanent disability classification, however when one or more is to be replaced, such substitutions may not exceed the maximums of the able-bodied and minimal disability classifications as previously listed.
In the event a player is injured during a game, the injured player may be replaced by a substitute player in an equal or lower functioning classification category. If a team is unable to comply with this substitution rule, the team will play with 5 players on the court. The injured player may return to the game after being seen by the team s medical staff. The team s starting line-up indicates the rotational order of the players on the court. This order must be maintained throughout the set. Changes made conform to Warrior Games Classification protocols The first service of the first set, as well as that of the deciding set (the 3 rd ) is executed by the team determined by the toss Each team may request a maximum of two time-outs and twelve player substitutions per set During all time-outs, the teams may remain on their court to meet with their coaches and teammates. The need to move off the court for a time-out is not necessary for the Warrior Games. However, it should be noted that any delay in resuming the match to clean up any spilled liquids on the court, may result in a Delay Sanction penalty at the discretion of the officials A player of the starting line-up may leave the game and re-enter only to his/her previous position on the lineup. The reference of only one exit and one re-entry for a player in the starting lineup has been removed to allow for multiple exits and re-entries A substitute player may enter the game in place of a player of the starting line-up, and he/she can be substituted by any player from the bench who has not already entered the set in a different position within the lineup. The reference of only one entry by a substitute has been deleted. The requirement that the starting play return to the court for the substitute has also been changed to allow multiple players to play within the same line-up position If an injured/ill player cannot be substituted, legally or exceptionally, the player is given a 3-minute recovery time, but not more than once for the same player in the match Deleted Teams unable to substitute the injured/ill player will be permitted to play with 5 players until the injured/ill player is cleared to return by the appropriate medical professional.
19 Deleted Teams will remain on their respective sides during the deciding set. No Libero will be used for 2014 Warrior Games The second referee control the number of time-outs and substitutions used by each team and reports the 2 nd time-out and 9 th, 10 th, 11 th, and 12 th substitutions to the first referee and the coach concerned. Changes conform to previous rule modifications Registers the data of the match and teams, according to the procedures in force. Changes conform to previous rule modifications Announces to the referees the ends of the sets. Changes conform to previous rule modifications.
