After picking put their first league win of the season by defeating Macalester 3-0 on Saturday, the Gusties enter tonight s match at 7-8 overall and 1-2 in the MIAC. Carleton comes into tonight with some momentum after sweeping Bethel 3-0 on Friday in Northfield. The Knights enter at 11-4 overall and 1-2 in the MIAC. Head Coach Rachelle Dosch s 2012 roster features a total of 21 players from three states. Nineteen players are natives of Minnesota, while Maddy Wavrin is from Mabton, Wash. and Kelle Nett hails from Spring Valley, Ill. THE SERIES... Gustavus will take on Carleton College for the 70th time in volleyball this evening. The Gusties hold the advantage in the all-time series with a record of Gustavus won the last meeting between the two squads on Sept. 28, Gustavus held the Knights to an attack percentage of just.030 on the way to a 3-0 victory. In the last ten matchups between Gustavus and Carleton, the record is knotted at an even 5-5. In the past ten meetings at Gus Young Court, Gustavus holds a record of 6-4. SLOW DOWN YOUSO... The Gustavus defense will need to find a way to slow down Carleton hitter Jessa Youso tonight. Youso is averaging 3.08 kills per set and ranks third in the MIAC with an attack percentage of.372 with 163 kills. Carleton is hitting.213 as a team, ranking them second in the MIAC. PHILLIPS CONTINUES TO HEAT UP... Senior hitter Emily Phillips is beginning to hit her stride as Gustavus enters its the blunt of its schedule. Phillips recorded 14 kills in Saturday s win over Macalester, reaching double-figures for the second consecutive match. She hit over.400 for the third time this season, finishing the match with a seasonbest attack percentage of.444 with just two errors. Also reaching double-digit kills in the last two matches is rookie Becca Woodstra. Woodstra had 15 kills against St. Olaf and 14 against Macalester. Woodstra is hitting at a.235 rate on the season, while Phillips is hitting.237. The first-year and senior hitters rank ninth and 11th, respectively, in the MIAC in kills with 155 and 148 this season.

The Gustavus attackers will need to find a way to penetrate one of the toughest defensive units in the conference in Carleton. 5 Head Coach Rachelle Dosch Third Season Overall, 9-16 MIAC at Gustavus Office: Rachelle Dosch is in her third season as the Gustavus head volleyball coach. Dosch, a 2007 graduate of the University of St. Thomas, began her third as the head of the volleyball program with a great deal of optimism towards her 2012 squad following what was the turnaround story of the season in The Gusties went from 7-19 overall and 1-10 in the MIAC, finishing last in the league in 2010, to overall and 7-4 in the MIAC for a fifth place finish Dosch led the Gusties a 20-win season for just the third time in the last 15 years. The Gusties were defeated by Saint Benedict 3-1 in the opening round of the MIAC Playoffs. Previous to taking the position at Gustavus, Dosch worked as an assistant coach at Winona State University in 2009 and Luther College from 2007-to Dosch, an Anoka, Minnesota native, had a standout career at the University of St. Thomas. A four-year starter and three-time All-MIAC honoree, Dosch led the Tommies to a record in her four years. As an outside hitter, she was an AVCA Third Team All-American honoree in 2006 and an AVCA honorable mention All-America recipient in Dosch registered 1,868 digs and 1,713 kills in her career. She is the only player in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) history to rank in the top five all-time in both kills and digs.
