The Team Roster 7

It is time to have the roster section filled in. 8

Before starting the Player Roster check with the coaches about which players, if any, will be scratched from the lineup. Copy the 3 letter team abbreviations or full name from the top of the score sheet to here Note: there is room for the Coach to record their Coaching Certification Identification Number, but not necessary to record. U O R U O S and here. The player names & numbers are then filled in. Use the first initial and last name. This will save space. 9

It is not necessary to fill in the Coach s Certification Number, or Trainer or Medical personnel names. U O R U O S Do fill in the Head Coach name and Assistant Coach (if present). Head Coach Head Coach Coach Certificate # Coach Certificate # Assistant Coach Assistant Coach Trainer Medical Trainer Medical 10

If the Referee has conducted the coin toss provide the sheet for the captains to sign. U O R U O S Remember: the captains should circle their numbers. Invite the coaches to sign the rosters. Head Coach Head Coach Coach Certificate # Coach Certificate # Assistant Coach Assistant Coach Trainer Medical Trainer Medical 11

Fill in the Circles to indicate which is Team A & B A U O R U O S B Head Coach Head Coach Coach Certificate # Coach Certificate # Assistant Coach Assistant Coach Trainer Trainer Medical Medical 12

Now we re ready for the game! With 30 seconds left in the warm-up the coaches should have given their lineups to the Referee. He/She will then give it to you to record on the score sheet. 13

Let s Keep Score! 14

The Line-up card looks similar to this: Note: The Roman Numerals tell you the positions. Often, the Roman Numerals are not there. If not, #1 is always in the bottom right hand corner and then proceed counterclockwise. U O R If you know the libero number you can add it on your score sheet, but not necessary. 15

You can start recording your first set in Set 1 box. 16

Start with the bottom right and go counter clockwise on the rotation card UO R x x UO S U O R Also, check to ensure that all numbers are recorded in the team roster box before writing numbers in the rotation box 17

Note that the start time and team serving and receiving has been marked UO R x x UO S x 10 Mark an X in the first box of the receiving team. When they get to serve they will have to rotate. 18

Let s keep score! x x 3 6 x 5 6 It continues like this for the remainder of the set. In the event of the wrong player going to the service zone you are to let the player commit the serving fault - then notify the Referee of the service error immediately. 19

Substitutions Smile, especially when a coach likes to activate many subs during the set. 20

Substitution! UO R x x UO S x Team B is requesting a substitution. #5 approaches the substitution zone and the coach makes the appropriate verbal & hand signal. The referee blows his/her whistle. Check the roster to see that #5 is eligible to play. 21

Player Eligibility Check to see that #5 is listed here. If so, raise one hand to signal that he/she is eligible to enter. If not, communicate this to the official. i 22

Substitution! x UO R x UO S Once complete raise both hands (palms facing out) to signal x that you are done and ready to go on. The referee will say, #4 is replaced by #5. The score is 15 to 18. (or something similar) You mark a 5 below player number 4 and mark the score. When marking the score, the first number is the team that requested the substitution, the second is the opposition. 23

Substitution! UO R x x UO S x Should there be a second substitution for the same player you will simply repeat the process When finished you must circle the number of the substitute player to indicate that he/she may not re-enterenter the set. 24

Time Out Thumbs up to a coach for time outs, as it lets you take a deep breath. 25

Time out! The coach from Team A requests and is granted a Time out. Team A has 23 points, Team B has UO R x x UO S x You mark the score under the T beginning with the score of the team that called the Time Out 26

The Set Is Over Yahoo, and everyone is a winner, including you as the score keeper. 27

The set is over! U O R x x U O S x Fill in the end time as soon as the set is over. Mark an hourglass shape in all the point boxes to block off any further changes. Circle the last rotation score for each team. 28

Set 3 - Deciding Set In club youth we only play best of 3 sets. Best of 5 is for University yplay. When marking, use Set 5 on the score sheet for the 3rd set (if playing a deciding win). 29

Set 3 - Deciding Set Deciding Set works the same as Sets 1 & 2. To make things easier begin by looking at the left-most and middle boxes. There are, however, some differences. You will have to: Fill in A or B depending on what the captains choose at the deciding set coin toss. Fill in the 3 letter team abbreviation. Mark the team that is serving and receiving. Mark the start time of the set. 30

Set 3 - Deciding Set For the first 8 points of the set only look at the left part of the sheet exactly as you had in previous sets. Remember: Use Set 5 on the scoresheet if needing to play the Remember: Use Set 5 on the scoresheet if needing to play the 3 rd set for deciding win (for club youth). 31

U O S Set 3 - Deciding Set B A U O R At the switch fill in the number of points that this team has. Another good practice is to write any substitutions made by team on the left hand box on the far right side as well. 32

Set 3 - Deciding Set 0 8 Then continue as in any other set, looking at the right side of the sheet. At the end be sure to fill in the end time and the results section as per usual. 33

Results 34

Results During the 3 minute set intervals fill in the appropriate information here. 35

At the end of the match you will have to fill in this box It is advisable to complete each hline at the end of each set. 36

Start with the team names. U O R U O S 37

Then complete the box scores. U O R U O S

If a team has won the set mark a W, if not put a 0. U O R U O S Fill in the # of Time-outs - if none are used, leave them blank or put a zero W W W Fill in the # of substitutions - if none are used, leave them blank or put a zero. Fill in the totals 39

Start & End times of the match U O R U O S W W 2 W W The start, end time and duration is not necessary to fill out. 40

The Results Portion is now complete. U O R U O S W W W U O C 2 1 Don t worry about the middle column time duration. Now it s time for the captains to sign the sheet. 43

Remarks 49

Remarks The remarks box is used to record information such as: Changes of uniform due to blood Protests Any irregularities during the match (external interference, equipment malfunctions, etc.) After the match the referee will initial this box if any information is added. 50

Notes: We did not go over the Sanction section. Don t worry about this. It is rare that a coach, assistant coach or athlete will receive a yellow or red card. If they do, the ref will come over and help you fill out that section. Smile and just do your best at that moment. We all make mistakes and that is OK! If you are unsure at any time or need clarification, don t hesitate to motion for the ref to stop the set and come see you. 51

Scorekeeping Summary It s your first time? It is OK to take a partner to sit and help you. Refs don t mind. We ENCOURAGE it. Presentation prepared by Wanda Moyer from Regina, SK at or by volleyballregina@gmail.com 52
