VBC Staffing Tom Caverly leaving VCB after 25 years; looking to be done by the end of February. Some notes from Tom: 1. LTAD: focus on reaching the proper ratio of training to competition hours. More training is necessary and should be the focus, based on Volleyball Canada s LTAD model 2. Larger clubs are being established throughout BC and Canada. Some clubs do have year round training, with the hiring of Professional staff (coaches, administrators) to help with the club. Will this be the direction Volleyball as a whole will move? 3. Cross Training and Fitness: stressed the importance of the Integrated Service Team (physio, strength and conditioning, psychology, nutrition) in the trending direction of the training of younger athletes. Part of VBC funding is based on high performance results and these services are tied to it 4. Regional Coach in the LM and Fraser Valley has been absorbed by existing staff (Jenny in Chris). Chris has taken on the role of High Performance Director as well as Tech Dir. 5. Recruiting and athlete transferring from club to club is still and issue within the club system, however, being an athlete focused model, the athletes are free to choose which direction they want to take their training. 6. The club s have a responsibility to educate the parents on the club vision and the plan and direction the clubs will take. The parents as well as the athlete need to make informed choices regarding their own development. Chris = Coaching Certification and Team BC Camps, General Club Inquires, and North Details Jenny Graham = responsible for all events, general inquires Actively interviewing for Youth Coordinator position. 3 2. Registration and Provincials / Nationals Super events ALL open on the same day, Jan 10, 2011 o New from last year. RDC felt the staggered format for registration put to much stress on club administrators. Registration is still first come first serve Provincials Open on Jan 15, U Girls is Friday and Saturday Nationals Open on Jan 24, 2011 Nationals still using the NRS system, so make sure you have correct information in our databases. Page 5 7 of the handbook outlines tournament fees, late registration and withdrawal fees and deadlines See the Competition Calendar (pages 15 18) for specific deadlines. Roster will be locked on March 15, 2011, after this time, NO roster may be changed and must be adhered to for PCs and Nationals. If rosters changes requiring NRS upload after March 15, a $50.00 admin fee will apply. 3. Officials and Rule Changes Kenneth clarified the rules for under the net. Entire foot has to be over the center line to be considered a fault. Hand is not allowed over See page 13 for the assigning of officials for competition Overhead passing rule (for 16U and every category under) will be Volleyball Canada Rule. o No receiving serve in an overhand motion, using fingertips o PDF file on the VolleyballBC Youth Club page for visual reference on what is allowed and what is not Volleyball BC will follow all Volleyball Canada Rules outlined in the Rule Book, unless otherwise stated Center line penetration into the opponents space is permitted, unless it interferes with play (see page 29, section 11.2 of the Volleyball Canada rulebook) Contact with the net is not a fault unless it interferes with play (see page 29, section 11.3 of the Volleyball Canada rulebook) 4. Coaching Certification Level 3, offering opportunities for coaches to audit components of the course for knew knowledge NEED ATHLETES o Course is auditable for coaches who would like to take some components to acquire new knowledge Level 1 is required up to 16U and Level 2 is required for 17 and 18U VBC considers exemption cards to all coaches who are in process of certification o Must complete one component this season to be eligible for an exemption card Will be checking certification right away to help clubs facilitate coaching education

4 o Exemption cards will not be given out during this process but will be for PCs. o Helps with the education path of the coaches who need to get certified Exemptions cards are to be requested by the club NOT THE COACH. Clubs are to submit a list of coaches requiring exemptions cards and submit to Chris Berglund by March 31 for review. Requests received after this may not be reviewed for exemption NCCP Courses in January (Level 1, Jan 8 9, Sutherland, NV; and Level 2, Jan 14 16, Friday is UBC WMG, Sat and Sunday TBD PROBABLY IN NORTH VAN AS WELL) CIS Symposium, March 4 6, 2011, Langley 5. Team BC Identification Camps Dec 21, Tuesday (Food Drive) NEED COACHES o We now have enough coaches for this camp o Remind kids to bring food for food drive Team BC and Baden Cup Programs see handout Coaching applications for Team BC are on the website under the Team BC webpage Deadline to apply: Jan 9, 2011 to submit applications Anything Team BC, contact Chris Berglund 6. Open Questions Concerns regarding athlete recruiting and transfer forms required bring ideas and thoughts on how to address this issue this is always an issue but nothing is ever resolved. Must take in account of the entire province. Discussion points brought up and suggestions o Bring back transfer forms required for tryouts o Create boundaries (ie. Like the BCSS model) Allow for certain number of zone transfers o Put together a sub committee to look at solutions to athlete movement, how it affects clubs, what is in the best interest of the athlete (volunteers Peter Rolvink (BCO), Shane Donen (Seaside) Work together within the framework and guidance of the RDC and HPC o Do we legislate when tryouts have to run, within a certain time period o Team BC athletes must stay with there previous club following a Team BC season o 16 18U must stay in that club for the reminder of their eligibility (like Grade 10 and BCSS) o How does these options affect the high performance athlete o Are we losing athlete participation due to athlete movement and clubs not running teams? Pacific Volleyball Society is involved in Richmond and the PISE program in Victoria. Looking to get centers set up in Kelowna, Kamloops, and Prince George. Volleyball Center of Excellence running programming in the winter and spring designed not to interfere with the club season. This is independent of Volleyball BC, but a partnership is in place between VBCOE and PVS
