1 2018 Durham Elementary Intermediate Boys/Girls/Coed Doubles Badminton Tournament Pool Play: Wednesday March 28 th (12:00-4:00) 12 sites in Durham (Locations TBA) Winning individual team at each site qualifies for the Championship Round Winning school (top coed, top boys, top girls) at a site will also qualify for the Championship Round Championship Round: Wednesday April 4 th (12:00-4:00) 4 Sites in Durham (Locations: TBA) Final 4: Thursday April 5 th Seneca Trail P.S.

2 Rules: 1. Serve determined by ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS 2. Team serving as per rally point serving and scoring 3. First serve of the game is always from right hand box 4. Serve must be played by player in diagonal box on opposition side 5. Server and serve receiver must be in proper box with both feet touching the ground on service contact. 6. Serving box is SHORT and WIDE lines for doubles 7. On the line is in 8. All parts of the racquet must be below waist on contact for the serve 9. A serve that touches the net and lands on the proper court is a legal serve 10. After the serve, either player may contact the shuttle. However, only one contact is allowed on a side Scoring: 1. Rally point scoring 2. You win a rally if you hit the shuttle over the net and onto the floor of the opposing side s court 3. You lose the rally if you hit the shuttle into the net, or outside of the court 4. If the shuttle touches you or your clothing or if you hit it before it crosses the net, or your racquet contacts the net, you also lose the rally 5. A shuttle may hit the net on its way across during play and the rally will continue

3 Serving and receiving courts 1. A player of the serving side shall serve from the right service court when the serving side has an even number of points in that game 2. A player of the serving side shall serve from the left service court when the serving side has scored an odd number of points in that game. 3. The player of the receiving side who served last shall stay in the same service court from where he served last. The reverse pattern shall apply to the receiver s partner. 4. The player of the receiving side standing in the diagonally opposite service court to the server shall be the receiver. 5. Once the service is returned, in a rally, the shuttle may be hit by either player of the serving side and either player of the receiving side. Scoring and serving 1. If the serving side wins a rally, the serving side shall score a point. The server shall then serve again from the alternate service court. 2. If the receiving side wins a rally, the receiving side shall score a point. The receiving side shall then become the new serving side. Length of games/referees: 1. The first team to score 21 points will win the game. The winning team must win by 2 points but all games are capped at 30 points. Therefore, a team cannot win but could win Players will referee their own games. They are expected to make fair calls on their own side of the net.

4 Round Robin Play Your position after the round robin will determine what championship game you will play in. If there is a tie after the round robin, the following tie breaking procedure will be used: If 2 teams are tied: 1-Head to Head If 3 teams are tied: 1-Plus/Minus during the games between the 3 teams that are tied 2-Plus/Minus during all of the games in the round robin Day 1 Team Points: Each school will receive points from their 3 teams (coed, boys, girls) based on the following table. Final Result Team Points Won A Final 30 Lost A Final 25 Won B Final 20 Lost B Final 15 Won C Final 10 Lost C Final 5 The school (coed, boys, girls) with the most points at a site will qualify for the Championship Round. In case of a tie, the following Tie Breaking Procedure will be used: 1. The team (coed, boys, girls) with the most in wins in the round robin will advance 2. The team (coed, boys, girls) with the best point spread in the round robin will advance The individual team who wins each site will also qualify for the Championship Round. If the team who wins the site has also qualified for the Championship Round because of their team points, the individual team who lost in the A final will also qualify for the Championship Round.

5 Day 2: Championship Round There will be 4 sites for the championship round. School points will start over for the Championship Round using the same point scale. Final Result Team Points Won A Final 30 Lost A Final 25 Won B Final 20 Lost B Final 15 Won C Final 10 Lost C Final 5 The teams who win the A Final at the Championship Round will qualify for the Final 4. Their school points will also carry over to the Final 4 for a chance to pick up BONUS points. Day 3: Bonus Points at the Final 4 Final Place Bonus Points Won Durham Final 15 Lost Durham Final 10 Won Consolation Final 5 Lost Consolation Final 0 Substitutions If you have a player who moved on to Day 2/3 and cannot make it due to injury, illness, etc., you may use a substitute player as long as they did not play on Day 1.
