State Standards: PE.8.C.2.2- Identify basic rules for alternative/extreme sports activities. PE.8.L.3.1- Participate in moderate physical activity on a daily basis. PE.8.R.6.1- Discuss opportunities for participation in a variety of physical activities outside of the school setting that contribute to personal enjoyment and the attainment or maintenance of a healthy lifestyle. PE.8.R.5.3- Demonstrate sportsmanship during game situations.pe.7.l.1.4 Participate in a variety of team sports, outdoor pursuits, and aquatics activities that promote effective stress management. Character Standards: Demonstrate Sportsmanship before, during, and after the activity Respect for others during activity Goal(s): Improve agility movements Behavioral Objective(s): Students will apply Equipment List 3 Volleyball Nets 20 Volleyballs Set Up & Safety Notes Set up the volleyball nets. Need to use every volleyball in the equipment storage area. Foam balls are also good for this activity. Warm Up or Instant Activity: Head to Toe Stretching: Students follow teacher/student leader. Lesson Introduction: Content: Talk to the students about the importance of being able to return a served ball. Show them the proper way to move to the ball and hit it as well as hitting underneath it when serving. Show them how to hit the ball. 3M Lesson Description: Serving & Returning a Serve 20M Learning Experience: Divide the class into 6 teams. Set each team on each side of the net. One team is set up in regular volleyball formation, a front line and back line. The other team is lined up single file at the service line. The volleyballs should be in a bin or bucket next to the service line. The serving team starts with the first person in line serving a ball over the net. The student should serve using an overhand or underhand serve. The other team must then return the serve. If they are successful in returning the serve there is no point scored, if they are not successful in returning the serve, the serving team earns one point. If a serve is no good (goes out of bounds, doesn't go over the net, etc.), move on to the next person in line. The next person in the serving line serves another ball and the game continues until each person in the serving line has served three times. All of the balls are then gathered up and the teams switch sides. Variation: Have more students hitting balls at one time. The receiving team gains one point if they can hit the ball using three hits,

PE.8.R.5.4- Maintain appropriate personal, social and ethical behavior while participating in a variety of physical activities. PE.8.R.5.5- Demonstrate appropriate etiquette, care of equipment, respect for facilities and safe behaviors while participating in a variety of physical activities. PE.8.C.2.4- Explain basic offensive and defensive strategies in alternative/extreme sports activities. PE.8.L.3.1- Participate in moderate physical activity on a daily basis.pe.7.m.1.1 Participate in modified versions of team sports Character Standards: Honesty in fair play Self-Motivation by never giving up and always willing to try Goal(s): Improve agility movements Behavioral Objective(s): Students will demonstrate Equipment List 1 Open Court Surface 1 Volleyball Net 1 Volleyball 30 Poly Spots Set Up & Safety Notes Set up the net so it separates the two halves of the court. Put down poly spots on each side of the court. Make sure the children pay attention to what is going on around them during this activity. Some children get hit by the ball because they are not ready to catch. Warm Up or Instant Activity: Student leads exercise Lesson Introduction: Content: Teach the children how to track a thrown ball. Ask the children to identify as many activities that they can that require tracking. Demonstrate the appropriate technique for tracking a thrown ball. Show students how to rotate in volleyball Lesson Description: Catching, Throwing, & Serving Activity 30M Learning Experience: Divide the children into two even teams. Set up 15 poly spots on each side of the court. This game is played just like regular volleyball, except the children can catch the ball once it is hit over the net. The object of the game is to throw the ball over the net into the other teams side of the court. If the ball is caught, that player sends it back over the net. If the ball hits the ground, a point is awarded for the team that threw the ball. All passes should be done quickly. Every player should be able to throw the ball over the net once before anyone throws it twice. Variation: Allow the ball to be passed 3 times before going over the net. Allow the children to hit the ball directly (instead of catching) over the net. Use a beachball instead of a regular volleyball.
