1 WOA Volleyball Study Guide Page 1 of 8 1: A note from a MD/OD is required in order for a player to return to play (after being removed from the game for symptoms of a concussion) 2: Prior to the contest, the crew is required to ask the coach, "Does your team have a healthcare professional authorized in concussion management?" WIAA: Concussion WIAA: Concussion 3: In the pregame coaches conference the head coach states that there is not a healthcare professional on the bench. Player A22 is showing symptoms of having a concussion. The player is sent out for a play, the head coach examines the player and determines that she does not have a concussion. A22 is allowed to return to playing in the game. WIAA: Concussion 4: The R1 and R2 must wear a sublimated WOA shirt for Varsity matches. Officials working as line judges, scorers and libero trackers at varsity contests and any official working a sub-varsity contest may wear a plain white polo, no logos and no patches. WOA: Guidelines 5: The ball is considered out of bounds and loss of rally/point is awarded when it touches any part of a backboard or its supports hanging in a vertical position over the service area when tossed for serve and shall not be subject to a re-serve. Rule 2-3-1i 6: A player from Team R chases an errant ball toward Team R's bench where a teammate supports the player from falling. Rule 2-4-1b

The R2 informs the coach that the player may not enter the set with that equipment and charges the team with an unnecessary delay. Rule : Team A's uniform tops are blue with white numbers. Each player's name is displayed on the back and a 5x5 mascot on the sleeve. Rule : When the R2 signals a net violation, s/he must move to the fault side, indicate the fault followed by the number of the player committing the fault. The R2 will then mirror the R1 when s/he indicates the result of the play. The R1 will then indicate the player who committed the fault. Rule 5-2-1b 10: Player number 3 on the receiving side of the net contacts the net after playing the ball. The R2 blows his whistle and then signals point serving team, followed by signal 6 and finally shows the R1 three fingers indicating that number 3 committed the fault. Rule 5-2-1b 11: The proper procedure to follow when there are simultaneous whistles by the R1 and R2 on an antenna violation on the R2 side is for the R1 to hesitate and allow the R2 to complete the protocol as if the R2 had initiated the call. If there is a hesitation on the part of the R2, then the R1 should take the initiative. 12: Referees equipment shall include a watch, but a phone showing the time is allowable. Rule 5-2-1b/5-5-3b5 13: It is the responsibility of the R2 to insure the antennae are properly fastened to the net. Rule 5-3-2a Rule 5-4-1c

3 WOA Volleyball Study Guide Page 3 of 8 14: Before the deciding set, the R2, while standing in front of the scorer's table, double whistles and raises a coin to notify the captains of the coin toss. After the coin toss, the R2 indicates the serving team by motioning to the side of the court of the serving team. Rule 5-4-4h 15: The R2 whistles to signal the end of timeout after the audio signal sounds to make sure everyone is ready for play to resume. Rule b12 16: When the R2 provides assistance to the R1 on plays that may be out of view of the R1, s/he should initiate the call by blowing her/his whistle. 17: All timeouts will end with an audible horn. Rule 5-5-3a Rule 5-5-3b-12 18: The Timer must sound an audible horn to start each subsequent set, even if both teams are ready to play before time expires. 19: The R2 allows the head coach to stand beyond the endline during play. Rule 5-5-3b-19 Rule 5-5-3b(10) 20: The R2 has the authority to whistle to end a time-out early if both teams are ready to play, however, that means more than the fact that all 12 players are physically on the floor. 4 WOA Volleyball Study Guide Page 4 of 8 21: The R2 blows a double whistle to indicate there are 15 seconds remaining in a time out or that both teams are ready to play. If the TO goes to 60 seconds, an audio horn will sound. Rule 5-5-3b(13),(20), 5-8-3a 22: A ball contacts the antenna on the R2's side of the court. The R2 whistles, moves to the side of the fault and signals out. Then the R1 signals the result of play (point), the R2 mimics the result of the play (point), the R1 then signals out. Rule 5-5-3b1 23: The scorer shall, when there is an improper server, sound a signal at the time the ball is contacted for the serve. 24: The Libero Tracker does not have to track substitutions on the tracking sheet. Rule 5-6-3e Rule 5-7-3a 25: When a team is playing with 5 players due to injury, illness, or disqualification and the vacant position rotates to the front, a backrow player can act as a front row player. Rule : A12 (the wrong server) has served for two points before A12's coach requests a timeout. When the teams return to the court after the timeout, A6 (the correct server) goes to the service position and serves for a point. The scorer then discovers that A12 was the wrong server for the first two points of the team's term of service. What is the proper action? A: The two points scored by A12 are canceled, and the point scored by A6 is retained. A6 will continue in the service position. B: The two points scored by A12 are canceled, and the point scored by the correct server A6 is retained. The opponent is awarded a loss of rally point and will serve next. C: No points are canceled. Since the correct server served the ball after the timeout, the points scored by the wrong server are "locked in" and A6 will continue to serve. D: The two points scored by A12 and the point scored by A6 are canceled. The opponent is awarded a loss of rally point and will serve next. Rule 6-4 Pen; 8-2 Pen

5 WOA Volleyball Study Guide Page 5 of 8 27: Team S server steps on the endline while serving the ball, Team R was out of alignment at the moment of contact, Team R wins the rally. Rule 8-2-7a 28: Player #2 for Team R legally attacks the ball then falls to the floor and contacts the opponent s floor with her hand on the center line. Player #5 for team S legally attempts to block the ball and comes down on the opponent s hand with no resulting interference. The R2 calls a center line violation. Rule : A player may contact the floor completely across the center line with one or both feet/hands provided no interference or potential safety hazard exists. Rule : A joust occurs between two opponents after which the ball lands out of bounds on the Team R side of the net. The R1 signals touch and awards a loss of rally/point to Team S. Rule 9-4-6d 31: Player #5 for Team S is reaching over the bleachers to make a play on the ball when a spectator contacts the ball. The R1 awards a replay. Rule 9-8-1f1 32: The first contact on serve-receive for Team R is shanked into a vertically hanging backboard over a playable area with player #4 in a position to make a play on the ball. The ball rebounds into the middle of the court and is sent over the net by player #6 for Team R. The R1 allows play to continue. Rule 9-8-1h 33: A player gets injured during play and the R2 stops play. A replay is necessary, but a substitution, libero replacement, or time out if the team has one, is allowed. Rule 9-8-2; b

The coach calls the player back to the bench indicating she did not want a substitution. The R2 tells the coach she may either make the substitution or receive an unnecessary delay. 35: A coach requests a substitution and the player is not ready to go in. The team is charged an unnecessary delay at which point the player is ready. The coach requests a substitution. Rule 9-9-1d Rule 10-2 Pen 2 36: During warm-ups a player on Team S is injured. The coach has already submitted the Team S lineup. The R2 allows the coach to make a lineup change and charges Team S with a substitution prior to the start of the set. Rule : Before the beckon for serve, the coach requests a substitution. Although the substitute has not entered the substitution zone, the R2 blows her whistle and authorizes the substitution. Proper procedure. Rule ,3 38: After whistling/signaling for serve, a player is discovered on the court as an illegal substitute. The R1 signals unnecessary delay and charges the team with a time out. Rule 10-3 Penalty 1 39: If an illegal Libero replacement is identified by the Libero Tracker, he/she must wait until the ball is contacted before bringing it to the attention of the R2. 40: The Libero properly moves to the serving position for player #7 and serves an ace. Player #7 subsequently replaces the Libero and makes the next serve. Rule 10-4 Pen 1 Rule / 8-1-5

Rule b 42: Between sets 2 and 3, Team A uses their side of the court to pass volleyballs to each other to warm up. Rule : Although electronic devices shall not be used for a review of a referee's decision, electronic devices may be used for verification of the score. Rule : A special time-out may be called by the referee when a team has an injured player, no time-outs remaining and no legal/exceptional substitutes available. The special time-out is not an option if the injured player is the libero. Rule : After receiving an administrative yellow card for unnecessary delay, the head coach is required to remain seated throughout the remainder of the match. 46: The proper signal when the same player makes both the 3rd and 4th team contact is "four hits". Rule Case/Manual Signals 47: The R2 shall use the "illegal substitution" signal when a team attempts an illegal substitution. Case/Manual Signals 48: The R1 shall point to the centerline with one finger when the ball completely crosses under the net. Case/Manual Signals
