1 1. OFFICIAL RULE BOOK -1- VOLLEYBALL (last update June 6 th, 2018.) The league will adopt the rules of the Canadian Volleyball Association. The Senior level will follow the OFSAA rules first and the CVA rules second in priority. Note: a) Overhand contact with fingers will be permitted on serve receive at U14 and above. b) Quick-sub rule will be followed as in the Volleyball Canada Rulebook at all levels c) Under 12 Levels and Below Under 12 and below levels, will use Tripleball rules. The only modification is that in each rotation, a new player comes in at Position #6 rather than substitution described in tripleball. 2. SCHEDULING Athletic Directors will be responsible for scheduling all league and exhibition games at the annual meetings. Any changes made to the schedule must be approved Athletic Directors at the schools involved. 3. OFFICIALS All league matches will be officiated by qualified personnel from the Ontario Volleyball Association. The host school will be responsible for obtaining the officials, and payment for their services. At the Senior Division I level during semi-final and final matches, there must be two officials with PROVINCIAL (OVA) qualifications. For Senior Division II playoffs, at least one of those officials must have PROVINCIAL (OVA) qualifications. If a provincial referee cannot be hired locally, the travel costs will be shared by all teams participating in the finals. 4. LENGTH OF GAME Senior Boys- Division I and II- 3 out of 5 Junior Boys- 3 out of 5 Under 14 Boys- 3 out of 5 Under 12 Boys- 2 out of 3 For all levels Multi-meets Length of match will be 2 out of 3 when in any multi-meet format (tri, quad etc.) The third game is not required. The third game is only required if needed to declare a match winter. Coaches may however, agree to play the third set if there is adequate time.

2 -2- Warm-up should consist of a 5-5 model. Each team will be given 5 minutes of warm-up to be used as they wish. They may use all 5 minutes at the net with 0 minutes for service or any combination with serve to be included in this 5 minute period. 5. SCORING a) Each set will be a 25 rally point set with no cap and win by 2 points. The fifth set will be a 15 point set with no cap and win by 2 points. b) The "Let" will also be in play. c) League standings will be calculated on a 1 point being awarded for each match won. This will apply to all age groups. 6. ELIGIBILITY As per C.I.S.A.A. eligibility regulations Article XIII of the constitution. 7. UNIFORMS Must be numbered on the front and back of jersey. Refer to OVA Rule Book The libero will have a different coloured uniform (but still school colours) than his teammates as per OVA rules. 8. EQUIPMENT and SAFETY The net heights are: 2.43 m for Senior Tier 1 and Senior Tier II 2.35 m for Junior and 2.20m for U-14 (or whatever the school's 2.00m for U12 equipment can accommodate) The net standards must have padding around the poles/standards, including the cranks, from the floor up to the bottom of the net. Proper referee stands, with padding will be used. Vertical Antennas must be used for all matches. Game Ball Junior and Senior Levels Baden Perfection 15-0 Premium Leather (OFSAA ball) or Tachikara SV-5W Premium Leather Volleyball. U14 Level - U12 Level Baden Lexum or Tachikara 5WSC Composite Leather Volleyball. Baden or Tachikara Volleylite Composite Leather. 9. PLAYOFFS

3 -3- Playoff formats will be determined by the Athletic Directors at the annual scheduling meeting.

4 TIE BREAKING FORMATS If two or more teams are tied at the end of the preliminary round, the following criteria will be applied, in order: a) The team having the best ratio of won/lost matches, considering the matches between the tied teams, will be ranked higher. b) The team having the best ratio of won/lost sets, considering matches played between the tied teams will be ranked higher. c) The team having the best ratio of points for/against considering sets played between the tied teams will be ranked higher. d) The team having the best ratio of won/loss sets, considering all matches of the season will be ranked higher. e) The teams having the best ratio of points for/against considering all sets played during the season, will be ranked higher. When applying this rule the following sequence should be followed: 1) When two teams are tied, the tie-breaking criteria are applied one after the other until the tie has been broken. 2) When three or more teams are tied, the tie-breaking criteria are applied one after the other until the tied teams are ranked. Forfeitures: see Constitution Article XV, section ADDITIONAL PLAYING RULES At the Senior level, a maximum of 12 substitutions will be allowed per set. The libero will be used at Junior and Senior levels. The Under 14 level and below will not use a libero. At the Under 14 level, any player serving FIVE points in a row will be asked to lay down the ball and the team, while maintaining the serve, will rotate to allow the next server to serve. 12. CONVENOR RESPONSIBILITIES See convenor responsibilities in main body of constitution appendix SPORTSMANSHIP & CONDUCT Players receiving red or yellow cards are to be dealt with according to the rules of volleyball. Athletes receiving a red card are removed from a set, however, this does not require a

5 -5- Discipline Review Committee. Athletes receiving a yellow/red car expulsion are removed from a match and are therefore shall be referred to a Discipline Review Committee. For further information on DRC process and requirements see main body of the constitution article XVIII Discipline. 14. COACHES RESPONSIBILITIES & HOST SCHOOL Senior and Junior host schools are responsible for calling in (or ing) the match results to the league convenor the following day. Results must be telephoned or ed to the Toronto Star before 7:00 pm on the day of the match 15. AWARDS CISAA plaques or trophies at all levels of play will be awarded to the champion at each level. Individuals on the championship and finalist teams for all Senior, Junior will receive gold or silver medals. 16. GUIDELINES FOR OFSAA REPRESENTATION ONLY Division I teams may declare for OFSAA competition. Only OFSAA eligible players may play in a challenge game. A) Schools must play in Division 1 in the CISAA to be eligible to represent the CISAA at OFSAA Championships, OFSAA Provincial Championships and OFSAA Festivals. B) Schools playing in Division 1 leagues will follow the selection process outlined below for advancing to an OFSAA Championship. i) The Division 1 team declaring for OFSAA must play only OFSAA eligible athletes in every game through the season. This includes league and exhibition matches. ii) Prior to the first league game, the teams that have declared for OFSAA must send in an AELS roster to the league convenor showing that all players are OFSAA eligible. iii) As per the chart below, unless the CISAA playoff dates are after the OFSAA entry deadline, the CISAA playoff results will be the first criteria employed to determine the OFSAA representative for each level. iv) If both teams were eliminated in the same round of the playoffs, the league standings will determine the CISAA representative at OFSAA. v) If the teams were tied at the conclusion of the season, the CISAA tie-breaking criteria will decide the representative. vi) If teams were in different divisions ( east and west ) and playoffs cannot determine the higher seed, head to head results in the regular season will be used to determine the winner.

Under 12 EXHIBITION LEAGUE MODIFICATIONS a. Equipment i.net Height: 2:00m ii. Ball: Tachikara SV-MNC Volley Lite or equivalent. b. Serving i. Service line moved in 2m from the regulation volleyball service line. ii. Players may start with 2 feet behind the line and take one step over this line to serve. c. Length of games i. Matches consist of best 2 out of 3 rally point games to 25, must win by 2 points, (no cap). ii. Match should last an hour therefore if games are over quickly teams are encouraged to play more games.

7 -7- d. Substitutions i. Substitution will occur on every rotation. The last person to serve on the team will come off the court and the next player in line on the bench will rotate into the middle back position. ii. The coach may start a new game with whichever players they wish on the court. e. Officials i. The host school must supply referees. ii. Referees should be lenient on lifts and double hits that occur during play. iii. Linesmen are encouraged to be used at each game. f. Eligibility i. To be eligible for end of season tournaments, teams/athletes must have played in at least 5 matches against 5 different CISAA member schools prior to the tournament. g. League Structure i. Schedules are arranged and confirmed by Athletic Directors at the Pre-season AD meeting. ii. Scores must be reported directly to the convenor. h. Number of Players For the championship tournament, all teams must have a minimum of nine players. If you have nine or more on your roster, you must bring a minimum of nine to the championship tournament. Each school s first team should meet the minimum, unless that is your school s only team. If a school has a first team and a second team, the second team may have fewer than the minimum. If a school has first, second, and third teams, the first and second teams should meet the minimum, while the third team may be less than the minimum. 18. SAFETY GUIDELINES Equipment A fully stocked first aid kit must be readily accessible. A working communication device (e.g., cell phone) must be accessible. Determine that all equipment is safe for use. Poles must be safely stored when not in use. Nets must have no frayed wires.

8 -8- Protective padding must be places around the poles including cranks and support from the floor up to the bottom of the net. Antennae must be flush with the bottom of the net. Clothing/Footwear Appropriate clothing and footwear must be worn. No jewelry. Facilities Determine that all facilities are safe for use. Playing surface and surrounding area must be free of all obstacles (e.g., tables, chairs) and must provide sufficient traction. When volleyball poles are removed, floor plugs must be replaced. Special Rules/Instructions Skills must be taught in proper progression. Games must be based on skills that are taught. Parents/guardians must be made aware of any off-campus activity and the means of transportation used. Be aware of athletes whose medical condition (e.g., asthma, anaphylaxis, casts, orthopaedic device) may affect participation. A student athlete s fitness level must be commensurate with the level of competition. Drills must be organized so as to minimize the risk of being hit with an errant ball. Athletes must be instructed in the safe and correct method of setting up, adjusting and taking down nets (e.g., standing on a chair). Fitness development appropriate to level of competition must be addressed. When facilities do not allow for safe play, (e.g., poles on sidelines, lines adjacent to walls) modify rules appropriately. Interschool competitions must follow the regulations and rules of the local governing body (CISAA, OFSAA) and/or Provincial Sport Organization for the activity.
