1 2018/19 BRVBA Club Handbook Mission We are a nonprofit 501-3(c) volleyball club that offers a place to develop complete volleyball players and grow the sport of volleyball. Blue Royals Volleyball Academy (BRVBA) is a place where players, coaches and families share the passion for the sport of volleyball. We build and strengthen friendships in the process of training, competing and having fun. The club mission is to have one elite team per age level. Blue Royals Volleyball Academy aims to stay small in number of teams and grow big in player skill and competitive talent. BRVBA seeks to improve the skills of every player over the season and to raise the level of play of each team every year. In order to reach this mission, we aim to attract talented coaches who will prepare athletes to play and compete at the National level. We strive to offer families a good value for their funds as well as offering a satisfying club season. Administrative Structure / Contact Information Director Dmitriy D. Tukan Secretary Lisa R. 2 Player Selection Process - Tryouts This is a competitive volleyball club and players will be selected based on many factors. Often in volleyball there are specific roles and open spots. Coaches analyze players at tryouts for the best selection for their teams. Team size is determined by the Coaches. The club prefers to have 12 players on each team, and so if a coach picks a smaller team there is some additional fees. Listed are a few of the things coaches look at during tryouts: athletic ability skills set coachability attitude commitment level position or role on team sportsmanship Tryout Dates Check the Team Calendars on the club Website to confirm - times could change. The club website has a Tab for Tryout Paperwork with online forms to fill out that go directly to the BRVBA office, or paper forms to download and bring to tryouts. 3 Due Process and Grievance Procedures Due process is the set of procedures that allow the exercise of organizational power while safeguarding the individual rights of the players, parents, coaches and directors. If any individual in our Blue Royals Volleyball Academy has a grievance they need to follow the procedure outlined below (the only exception is if it is a matter of safety - call or or call the Office immediately). 1. THE 24 RULE: All grievance concerns should be given 24 hours WAIT time before they are brought, unless you think it is an issue of safety. This is commonly called a Cool Down period, where after 24 hours time has passed, if the grievance is still considered important then it should be followed up with step If after 24 hours there is still a complaint, then players and/or parents meet and talk with their coaches or the Director. We prefer that Players speak for themselves directly with Coaches first, so as to let the experience be a part of their growth and learning. Each complaint will be handled with its unique background. Any parent who has a concern can always contact the Director or the Coach or both. Options for contacting Coaches and Directors; a. In person: This meeting should be an agreeable time and place - NOT at practice/ tournaments or anywhere that is not pre-arranged. Note that finding a coach at a tournament and asking them a question about your child is not acceptable. b. By Write a note and your Coach will follow up with you via . Always copy the office on any s to your child s coach. blueroyalsvolleyball@gmail.com c. Office Phone Call: Call the Club Office phone and speak with the Director or call your Coach. This could include sending a text. 3. Send your grievance to the Director in writing if there is ever a major concern that cannot be fixed by speaking with Coaches. Note that coaches and families are highly encouraged to copy the Director on all communications.

4 Important Notes Regarding the Grievance Process 1. Playing time is not guaranteed. A players position on the court and their play time is up to each Coach. Director will not get involved in a playing time grievance. Players who cry on court or on the bench typically do not play in the set, and if crying continues, may be on the bench the whole day. 2. Coaches, players, parents and officials are to be treated with respect at all times. 3. The club will give any disrespectful behavior, broken rule or broken code of conduct a Warning Letter. 4. More than two Warning Letters will result in Cancellation of the Player Agreement and Player will be released from the Club. All uniform costs, tournament fees and club dues are non-refundable. A refund will not be given for any club dues in the contract and the full amount of the contract will be due on the schedule of payments. Financial Obligations and Club Fee Payment Schedule The financial obligations involved with Blue Royals Volleyball Academy Club Membership include the Yearly Club Tuition Fee, the Required Team Gear Costs, the USAV Membership fee, team bondings and age and team specific additional tournaments and travel costs. This Handbook, including all Addendums, Paperwork Forms, and Commitment Letter are due as soon as a Player is offered a spot on the Team. Yearly Tuition The club season tuition dues are split into a larger initial dues paid on Sizing Night and six additional monthly payments due by the 15th of each month; Late fee $25 per day after the 15 th will be required. Late fees will go toward all club event costs and team bondings. Late fees have no termination, and will continue until the full amount due, including any late fees, is paid in full.

8 Appendix A: Membership & Team Details How long is the season: All age groups start playing in November and will play until Memorial Day weekend. At times some teams will travel beyond May and attend June and even July Tournaments or National Championships. Some teams may practice and play until the end of June if they receive a bid to Nationals or depending on the coach. It is an option for all teams to attend a post season tournament in June. There is an additional stipend cost for team trips and will depend on the tournament entry fee and the costs of travel for coaching staff - typically $200-$400 per travel add on. Tournament Schedule - Base Tuition: All teams will have ten tournaments as part of the standard season. We will participate in the Power League, PNQ s, a December Friendly, Memorial Day and other tournaments at the discretion of each coach. Exact tournament schedule is always open to slight variations as changes may occur and BRVBA cannot guarantee that all the finer details of the season schedule will be without changes. We will try to always make up tournaments if any are missed, and most of the time we have added more tournaments than originally booked. Base tuition includes the local tournaments and Spokane trip. Tournament Schedule - Add On Tuition: Any travel, except for Spokane, that is outside of the local area is considered an Add On to the Base Tuition cost. Teams will travel more as they get older. The U12 - U14 Teams will go to 1-2 Add on trips. The U15-U16 Teams will go to 2-3 Add on trips. The U17 - U18 Teams will go to 2-5 Add on trips depending on Coach wishes. Travel Add ons are usually meant to put our players in front of the most College Recruiters as possible. The U18 Team takes a fun end of the season trip to the Disneyland tournament, as a club tradition (*might be another fun location as Coach may wish to go to Orlando for example). Practices: Twice per week on average per team and locations will be primarily in the Mukilteo and Everett area. Check Calendar on the website for details, by Team, about practice location and time. Practice times will vary between 2 and 3 hours at a time. There may not be practice if schools are closed. All reasonable efforts will be made to make up any practice cancelled due to school closure. Scrimmages with other teams will be offered and required amongst the Club teams to improve skills and give real game like play opportunities. Playing Time: There is no guarantee of play time for any player. Starting positions are earned and are at the sole discretion of each Head Coach. The Club will try to have every girl play a little at least in each tournament, however play time is not guaranteed. The fact is that this is a competitive Club, and Coaches will have to make the decision about how best to win each match. All details of the season described here in the Handbook are subject to change, especially when things occur outside of the Director s control. All efforts will be made to be fair to players and families.
