2 Traffic Enforcement Camera definition: A traffic enforcement camera (also red light camera, road safety camera, road rule camera, photo radar, photo enforcement, speed camera, bus lane camera, Safe-T-Cam) is an automated ticketing machine. It may include a camera which may be mounted beside or oer a road or installed in an enforcement ehicle to detect traffic regulation iolations. (Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

14 The Center For Disease Control Reports: Motor ehicle crashes are one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. The lifetime costs of crash-related deaths and injuries among driers and passengers were $70 billion in The CDC is suggesting using technology to better understand this problem and deelop programs and policies that will change drier behaior. Crash deaths resulted in $41 billion in medical and work loss costs. One of the ten states with the highest medical and work loss costs is Ohio at $1.23 billion (9 th.) Ultimately, we all pay for the cost of motor ehicle crashes through insurance premiums, taxes, out-of-pocket expenses, and the like. About one-quarter of the cost of crashes is paid directly by those inoled, while society in general pays the rest.

23 Photo Enforcement cameras present a powerful deterrent to risky driing by changing the equation. Today, with limited resources, cities are forced to become more creatie in dealing with ongoing changes. Photo enforcement technology can act as a force multiplier for the city s police department, while reducing calls for emergency medical personnel and, most importantly, sae citizens lies. Extensie public information campaigns are part of the photo enforcement model, its goal, like the police car parked on the side of the road, is to preent accidents by getting people to change their driing behaior.
