Traffic management Cycle paths Better roads The lights on the main road set with a better time sequence so that Ashtead does not get so jammed up with traffic. Stop idiots parking on yellow lines with hazards on!!! Parking in streets where the flow of traffic is affected. Facilities A small supermarket or shop on the Tesco site but facing the road. Extend St Andrews ( a good senior school for boys ) to accommodate more village children. (It was explained that daughter was moving house to nearer Dorking so that sons could go to The Ashcombe) More family events ( for 4 and 5 year olds) or better publicity of family events / places. Ashtead needs one good store to come in. Many existing shopkeepers were very disappointed at Tesco s withdrawal. More co-ordinated / joined up services for lonely old people eg join up Ashtead Good neighbours with APMH activities like the Thursday Lunches. Banking at Craddocks Parade. External study area (with wifi) for young people. Head Ranger of Ashtead Common Availability of affordable housing for young people and young families. And I mean AFFORDABLE. More housing for 1 st time buyers for the younger generation The only real pressure that is experienced by the Corporation is the pressure to install or improve infrastructure to accommodate increased or changes in demand such as more horse riders or changes to school routes. The Greville takes children from the Wells Estate hence pressure to surface the path from Lady Howards Crossing to Craddocks Avenue. In the case of the riders, they would like a path with a prepared surface to lead them from their base to the north of Ashtead Woods Road towards the bridleways on the common. This surface would be like that on the bridleway which leads from the station on to the common over the Rye Bridge. It was explained that in cases like this the rangers have to balance the requests of local users against the need to maintain the common in its natural state. On many occasions they have to say no to protect the natural aspect. Their continuing and challenging work is to maintain the special aspects of the common such as the ancient trees which involves detailed work and maintaining the right balance between the scrub and the grassland so that species particular to that type of area and the common can thrive. Level crossing The blockage created when the level crossing is down and traffic eg lorries from Tesco travel down the rest of Wood Field Lane to turn back up, block those trying to get out of St Stephens Avenue. Proper seat at the bus-stop (north side) Facilities and shops Stay as it is with more small shops Decent shops in The Street Better selection of shops The Tesco site on The Street The vacant site occupied by a grocer not Tesco Empty site occupied by shops but not Tesco x 3 A small Waitrose Empty shops occupied again * The village is lovely as it is Keep building to brown field sites Less in-fill development x 4 No development allowed on Ashtead Park Garden Centre. It provides a good service to the village and provides much needed employment. No more houses because the infrastructure can t cope eg schools, hospitals, and doctors surgeries are full. The Green belt must be protected and preserved. More affordable housing is needed and this should include some social housing. Local amenities including the Recreational Ground and Ashtead Peace Memorial Hall must continued to be well supported by the local authorities. Page 2 of 5

3 APMH Over 60 s Lunch Club meeting on 12th February 2015 Transport and Access Better pick up facilities at the station Adequate parking bays at the station - there just aren t enough spaces and the road immediately outside the exit isn t wide enough for cars to pass when others are parked beside the kerb waiting to pick up passengers. Widen the road outside the station at the moment it suffers from very poor design Better exit from the station. Improve station design Better lighting opposite the station. It is very hard to see pedestrians at night coming off the London train along the Woodfield Lane slip road going into St Stephens Avenue Stop heavy traffic on the A24 A better bus service x 2 Control on speed on Barnett Wood Lane by the shops and school. The kerb side parking - less of it. Better maintenance of pavements x 4 (both for walkers and those in wheel chairs) Cut back over hanging bushes can be dangerous when the blind are out walking. Reduce the speed to 20mph in the village and Barnett Wood Lane. Parking - especially around Greville Park Road and the side roads. Facilities and shops Banks open for longer More choices for eating particularly in the evening (less curry houses). A Waitrose X 2 and no more Tesco. A good supermarket Another supermarket eg Budgens, Lidl, Sainsbury or Morrison. Craft Shop More shops and different ones More affordable housing Immediate building on the former Tesco site. Still more improvement on the Tesco site required It would be nice to see a retirement village of bungalows and flats like they have in Cranleigh and Waverley. Build more small houses for young people No more 4 / 5 bedroom houses please. No more development The less development the better A curb on housing Page 3 of 5

Bookshop/Coffee shop combined again for the ageing population A larger supermarket Good quality pub and restaurant The High Street it s not very attractive or welcoming A. The importance of pathways and bridle paths in our community B. Residents to have the option to walk anywhere rather than need to take the car. C. If there isn t enough affordable housing in Ashtead, there are not going to be many young families coming through to repopulate the congregation that is already an ageing one. B. The Hall could be hired every evening and weekends many times over. There are a lot of people wanting to run clubs, keep fit classes, children s classes, etc., etc., but the Parish Secretary has to turn them down on a daily basis. From Joy Wemms to GP on 20/1/15 (member of Ashtead Traders, The Street): Public parking needs to be clearly signed posted, for many the Grove Road car park seems to be one of Surrey's best kept secrets. It is frequently near empty yet people complain there is nowhere to park in Ashtead. The pavement on the even side of the Street needs to be wider, permitting the odd bench to be placed to permit the elderly and disabled to take a breather when they shop. All pavements need resurfacing to get rid of pot holes and dips that leave the elderly and disabled in fear of falling. There is only one safe place to cross The Street.
