Well here are a few things to catch-up on I am just now getting into the swing of summer and it s already time for our children to go back to school! Hopefully you all were able to enjoy some of your summer days swimming, hiking or enjoying time with family and friends. With school about to start, you will want to check-out the information on school bus and bicycle safety in the Neighborhood Watch News article within this newsletter. Are you wondering about all of the road construction going on in and around Cedar Park? Well here s the scoop: The road construction at the intersection of Lakeline Blvd. and Cypress Creek Rd. is almost complete with some final work taking place on the bridge. The Little Elm Trail roadway extension should be complete December If you re not familiar with what s happening here, the City is working on the remaining 4-lane divided roadway which will include turn lanes on 183, Lakeline, and Little Elm. A road project on RM 1431, called the RM 1431 Pass Through Financing Project, is scheduled to be complete September The road is being widened to a 6 lane divided roadway with a continuous flow intersection at RM 1431 and Ronald Regan Boulevard. A portion of the Brushy Creek Regional Trail that goes over Dam #7 between the City of Cedar Park s Brushy Creek Lake Park and Williamson County s Champions Park closed the middle of July 2016 so improvements can be made. Construction will go through the fall of Do you like to shop? Well, you are in luck! A 350,000 sf retail center called The Parke is being built just north of Costco on the west side of 183A. One of the anchor stores will be Whole Foods new 365 store which is targeted to open February Other planned tenants include Nordstrom Rack, Dick s Sporting Goods, DSW, Field & Stream, Chuy s and more! Yay! We also have the Bell Boulevard Revitalization Project to look forward to in the future. You may have heard about the project or perhaps you participated in the workshops held to discuss ideas on what a revitalized Bell Boulevard could look like. The first phase of the project is the realignment of Bell Boulevard, moving a section of the current Bell Boulevard (US Highway 183) eastward to align with what is currently Old Highway 183. This will begin to provide more space to crease a cohesive, vibrant walkable area for shops, restaurants and urban living in a later phase of the project. The City is currently in the process of selecting an engineering firm to begin the design of Phase 1. The design portion of Phase 1 is expected to take months. The experts at say August is both a challenging and important month for gardening because of the heat. Here are some of their tips: Prune roses back by one fourth and fertilize roses with a nitrogen fertilizer after pruning. Plant vegetable and herb plants for a fall garden, ensuring they are watered every two or three days if they start to dry out. Keep everything watered deeply once a week. Replenish mulch in all planting beds. Water your lawn early in the morning. Quit pruning back mums. Are you an artist? 3 TWIN CREEKS NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH NEWS Brian and Shannon Tweedt, Neighborhood Watch Co-Chairpersons SLOW DOWN: BACK TO SCHOOL MEANS SHARING THE ROAD School days bring congestion: Yellow school buses are picking up their charges, kids on bikes are hurrying to get to school before the bell rings, and harried parents are trying to drop their kids off before work. It's never more important for drivers to slow down and pay attention than when kids are present especially before and after school. IF YOU'RE DROPPING OFF Schools often have very specific drop-off procedures for the school year. Make sure you know them for the safety of all kids. More children are hit by cars near schools than at any other location, according to the National Safe Routes to School program. The following apply to all school zones: Don't double park; it blocks visibility for other children and vehicles Don't load or unload children across the street from the school Carpool to reduce the number of vehicles at the school SHARING THE ROAD WITH YOUNG PEDESTRIANS According to research by the National Safety Council, most of the children who lose their lives in bus-related incidents are 4 to 7 years old, and they're walking. They are hit by the bus, or by a motorist illegally passing a stopped bus. A few precautions go a long way toward keeping children safe: Don't block the crosswalk when stopped at a red light or waiting to make a turn, forcing pedestrians to go around you; this could put them in the path of moving traffic In a school zone when flashers are blinking, stop and yield to pedestrians crossing the crosswalk or intersection Always stop for a school patrol officer or crossing guard holding up a stop sign Take extra care to look out for children in school zones, near playgrounds and parks, and in all residential areas Don't honk or rev your engine to scare a pedestrian, even if you have the right of way Never pass a vehicle stopped for pedestrians Always use extreme caution to avoid striking pedestrians wherever they may be, no matter who has the right of way SHARING THE ROAD WITH SCHOOL BUSES If you're driving behind a bus, allow a greater following distance than if you were driving behind a car. It will give you more time to stop once the yellow lights start flashing. It is illegal in all 50 states to pass a school bus that is stopped to load or unload children. Never pass a bus from behind or from either direction if you're on an undivided road if it is stopped to load or unload children If the yellow or red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended, traffic must stop The area 10 feet around a school bus is the most dangerous for children; stop far enough back to allow them space to safely enter and exit the bus Be alert; children often are unpredictable, and they tend to ignore hazards and take risks SHARING THE ROAD WITH BICYCLISTS On most roads, bicyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as vehicles, but bikes can be hard to see. Children riding bikes create special problems for drivers because usually they are not able to properly determine traffic conditions. The most common cause of collision is a driver turning left in front of a bicyclist. When passing a bicyclist, proceed in the same direction slowly, and leave 3 feet between your car and the cyclist When turning left and a bicyclist is approaching in the opposite direction, wait for the rider to pass If you're turning right and a bicyclists is approaching from behind on the right, let the rider go through the intersection first, and always use your turn signals Watch for bike riders turning in front of you without looking or signaling; children especially have a tendency to do this Be extra vigilant in school zones and residential neighborhoods Watch for bikes coming from driveways or behind parked cars Check side mirrors before opening your door By exercising a little extra care and caution, drivers and pedestrians can co-exist safely in school zones. 5 C HOA/TCCC Annual 4th of July Event - A Great Day of Celebration!! Twin Creek residents gathered together to celebrate the 4th of July with a record breaking attendance parade. Lead by a Cedar Park fire truck, walkers, pets, golf carts, cars and even kiddie cars lined up and proudly paraded down Twin Creeks Club Drive waving to the watching crowds. What a site to see! Uncle Sam followed up tossing candy USA lollipops to parade watchers. Afterwards, everyone joined together at the club to eat some delicious TCCC BBQ, swim, compete in pool games, race each other in the Obstacle course, beat each other in the Laser Tag games and pummel all in the 1800 water balloon fight. To wrap-up things, everyone rushed into the RocknSuds foam pit to dance. A fun day to celebrate our wonderful country. Happy 4th of July! 6 News from the Club! Justin Jafarian, TC Club Manager With summer in full swing we are excited to see all the families at the Club! Whether dining in the Grille or out at the Pool soaking up the sun and enjoying our new pool-side Cabana Menu, the Club is busier than ever. Summer Camp is also going full force, led by an amazing team of Camp counselors and reaching all-time highs in registrations. Our Fitness Center Expansion has been completed which will allow us to have more free-weights space and areas for body weight exercises. Keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming Fitness Happy Hour hosted by Forward Motion. Having completed the Fitness Center, we are now moving onto the Main Clubhouse where we will expand our Banquet spaces, replace the carpet, and create a distinctive separation between the Bar and Dining Room, allowing us to have a true 19th hole for our adult Members! This portion of the renovations began in July and we expect to have it completed by the end of August. We hope you are as excited as we are about these upcoming renovations that will enhance and refresh our beautiful Club! Be sure to mark your calendar to attend one of our many upcoming Member events like Steaks & Stogies, Ladies Night, or Super Bingo Rock in August!
