1 Let s Move Summer 2013 Unit 1: People who help us 2: Safety first! JUSTIN: Hello everyone it s Justin here. Quickly check that you re standing in a space of your own, with plenty of room around you... Last time, you warmed up by skipping round in a circle with a friend. And today you re going to find lots of different friends to skip round with! When you hear the music, skip through the spaces with light, springy, happy steps. Off you go! And stop skipping! Hold hands with one or two friends close by, and skip round together in a circle! skip round. now let go hands, and skip away through the spaces. on your own again. Stop again. Now join hands with one or two other friends nearby. And skip happily round together in another circle. Drop hands and skip away through the spaces on your own again. Stop skipping everyone, and sit down on the floor. Last time, we looked at some of the people who help us at school. Today, we re going on a class outing together to find out about some other people who help us too! First stop is the hospital to meet some of the doctors and nurses who help when we re not well. And we re getting there by bus! Pretend you re the bus driver! With the music, travel in and out of all the spaces, stopping at the bus stops to pick up passengers on the way. Ready? Off you go bus drivers! Stop! Wait for the passengers to get onto the bus. And off you go again! Weaving in and out of the spaces. 1

2 Stop again! Lots of people want to go to the hospital today! Off you go again bus drivers! And stop! We ve arrived at the hospital and it looks very busy! It takes a long time and lots of hard work to become a nurse or a doctor there are so many things you have to be able to do! And one of those things is putting on a bandage. Quickly find a partner close by, and stand opposite one another. You re going to take turns to be the doctor or the patient so quickly decide who s going to the doctor first. OK doctors pick up your imaginary roll of bandage! And without touching your partner, carefully wrap the bandage round and round different parts of their body you could bandage their legs and their arms, even their tummy and back too! Listen to the music and keep your bandaging movements smooth, careful and con-tin-u-ous.... Get bandaging doctors! Poor patients! With all those bandages on it s difficult to move! You can t bend your knees or your elbows or any part of your body! Tense your muscles and make your whole body straight and stiff! With the music, try walking without bending your legs! Doctors! Help your patient to sway and stamp stiffly through the spaces all bandaged up like an ancient Egyptian mummy! Off you go! Stop! Time to swap over now so doctors become patients and patients become doctors! OK New doctors! Pick up your imaginary roll of bandage. And without touching your partner, carefully wrap it round and round different parts of their body. Don t forget! Keep those bandaging movements smooth, careful and continuous. Patients! Tense your muscles to make your body straight and stiff! Doctors! Help your patient to sway and stamp stiffly through the spaces like an Egyptian mummy! Everyone have a good, long shake out to relax those muscles again! Go on! Wriggle and shake your whole body! And wave goodbye to the doctors and nurses. 2

3 It s time to get back on the bus and meet some more people who help us! I wonder where we re going? For this part of the journey, stand next to your partner, side by side. Stay close to your partner as you drive the bus in and out of all the spaces together. Don t forget to stop at the bus stops to pick up passengers on the way! Off you go bus drivers! Stop! Wait for the passengers to get on. And off you go again! Driving in and out of all the spaces. Stop again! There are lots of passengers today! And off you go again! Stop bus drivers! Listen everyone! We ve arrived at - the fire station and by the sound of that siren, the fire-fighters are getting ready to put out a fire! Luckily, it s not a real emergency the fire-fighters have lit a bonfire on purpose, so that they can practise putting it out safely! Real fires can be very dangerous so let s build our own pretend bonfire! We need one person from each pair to go and stand in the middle of the room and then cluster together to make a group bonfire-shape. Do that now. OK bonfire-group, reach your arms up above your head and wriggle your fingers to make dangerous, flickering flames. Now we need the rest of the class to stand round the edge of that bonfire shape like fire-fighters, ready to put the fire out safely, with your waterhoses! So, everyone in position? Flickering flames! With the music, bend and stretch your legs as you reach high with your wriggling, flickering fingers! Fire-fighters! Hold out your water-hose and get ready to travel round the edge of the dancing flames with small, careful steps. Both groups at the ready? Off you go! Flickering flames get smaller and smaller with the music. 3

4 and crouch down low close to the floor to show that the fire s out. Well done fire-fighters! Time to swap over now so flickering flames become fire-fighters and fire-fighters become flickering flames! Your teacher can pause the programme while you get into your new starting positions now. OK, new flickering flames when you hear the music, bend and stretch your legs as you wriggle and flicker your fingers high above your head. And new fire-fighters! You re going to hold out your water-hose and walk slowly and carefully round the dancing flames. Here we go! Flickering flames get smaller and smaller. And crouch low close to the floor. Hooray! The fire s out! Time to get back on the bus and go back to school! Oh dear! Nobody s going anywhere because there s an enormous traffic jam! Listen! Here comes someone else to help us! It s the traffic police ready to direct the traffic and get everyone moving again! If you were a flickering flame last, keep really still when you hear the music. But if you were a fire-fighter last put your hand up in the air so that your teacher can see you. You re going to be the drivers of cars, bikes or motorbikes - travelling smoothly through the spaces with small, light steps to move away from the traffic-jam! Ready? Hands down and....off you go! Stop cars and bikes! Keep really still because it s time for the rest of the class to drive big, heavy lorries or busses away from the traffic jam now! Travel through the spaces with big, heavy steps! Go! Stop lorries and busses! Go cars and bikes! Cars and bikes keep still! Lorries and busses GO! And stop. The traffic police have cleared the traffic jam so all the traffic cars and bikes and lorries and busses can move at the same time now! 4

5 Ready everyone? Keep looking where you re going and don t bump into anyone. Off you go! And stop! Get ready to try that WHOLE traffic jam sequence again but this time, listen carefully and the music will tell which group when to move. It s the cars and bikes to start! STOP!!! And sit down just where you are to rest! That s nearly all we ve got time for today so let s finish the programme by getting back into that big, spread-out class circle, like last time. Slowly and carefully sit down on the floor in your circle and relax. Bus drivers, doctors, nurses, fire-fighters, traffic police! What a lot of people help us! And there are lots more too think of some after the programme. Until next time, keep helping! Bye bye! 5
