2 PARADE DAY INFORMATION PAGE 1 of 2 LINE UP: The Parade assembles on Wisconsin Avenue between Old World 3 rd Street and 6 th Street, and on North 4 th Street between Wisconsin Avenue and Clybourn Avenue. Your line-up number and approximate location will be sent around March 01, Due to the size of line up area and traffic limitations, motorized units should attempt to be in place by 10:30 AM, and all units should be at the assembly area by 11:00 AM. Check with parade staff (wearing bright orange vests), who will help place your unit and give you any last-minute instructions. VEHICLES: Access to the line up area is limited to vehicles in the parade. Police and Parade Staff will not allow vehicles into the area without an Access Pass (to be provided later). Parade vehicles should use the access gate noted on the enclosed information sheet. This should ensure that you are entering the correct portion of the line up area, and are facing in the right direction. Again, because of the small size of the line up area, it is extremely difficult to move trucks, buses, floats, etc. from one street to another, and even harder to get them turned around. For their safety, please keep the members of your unit organized, and be aware that late-arriving vehicles may be on the move through the assembly area. DROP OFF: Busses dropping off groups (as well as parents dropping off individuals) should use Wells Street to the north of the line up area or Michigan Street to the south. Parking for personal vehicles is available in the Shops of Grand Avenue parking structure for $3 for the day. STEP-OFF: By 11:45 AM, your unit should be fully assembled and in position. The Parade steps off at 12:00 Noon. Staff Members will direct you forward to the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Old World 3 rd Street where the Parade begins. Any unit not lined up when the parade steps off at noon will forfeit their right to participate. THE ROUTE: From Old World 3 rd Street, the Parade marches east on Wisconsin Avenue, north on Plankington Avenue, west on Kilbourn Avenue, north on Old World 3 rd Street, east on Juneau Avenue, and south on Water Street ending at Highland Ave.

3 PARADE DAY INFORMATION PAGE 2 of 2 SPACING: At the beginning of the parade, you will be started with an approximate ½ block interval. Please maintain this spacing through the parade. If you stop to perform, (a) keep the performance time to a minimum, and (b) adjust your pace to re-establish the desired ½ block spacing. Remember that this is a parade, and parades move!!!! REVIEWING STAND: The reviewing stand will be located on Old World Third Street between Kilbourn Avenue and State Street on the right-hand side. If you stop to perform, again please keep your stationary time to a minimum, you should be on your way by the time the next unit approaches. JUDGING/AWARDS: The parade will be reviewed by a panel of celebrity judges, and awards will be given to the: Best Irish Unit, Best Marching Unit, Best Float, Best Musical Unit, and Best Parade Unit. The winners will be announced shortly after the conclusion of the parade at the Post Parade Party at the Irish Cultural and Heritage Center (ICHC), located at 2133 West Wisconsin Avenue. END OF THE PARADE: At the end of the parade, please follow the instructions of the Parade Staff. Please do not stop to let participants exit your float/vehicle until you are safely parked away from the parade route and moving traffic. FINALLY: The most important instruction of all: HAVE FUN! 4 PARADE RULES & REGULATIONS PAGE 1 of 3 In order to ensure having a safe and fun time at the parade for your unit and our spectators, the following rules are provided. Please take time to read these over and abide by them. The applicant shall be responsible for the conduct of all of its participants and agrees to notify ALL participants of these rules and regulations. UNIT PRESENTATION: All units are expected to present an Irish Theme, decorations, and/or colors. The colors usually accepted as Irish are Green, White, Orange, and St Patrick s Blue (a deep, bright blue). Unit exempted are: Marching Bands (requested to present Irish Music, if possible) Official Dignitary Vehicles Others and determined by Parade Management The shamrock: is a three-leafed clover (not a four-leafed clover) PARADE VEHICLES & DRIVERS: Drivers and all vehicles participating in the parade must be registered and have insurance as required by the State of their registration. Drivers must also possess a valid Driver s License. Vehicle owners warrant that the vehicle is in sound mechanical condition with no known defects or safety concerns. Sitting or standing on hoods or roofs of vehicles is prohibited. OTHER PARADE WHEELED APPARATUS: Any person riding a bicycle, wearing rollerblades/skates, using a skateboard or other wheeled apparatus, must wear appropriate body protection. No exceptions. ANIMALS: Animals must be mentioned on the parade application if they are being part of the parade. All animals must have updated vaccinations, be in good medical health and be able to cope with crowds and other animals.

5 PARADE RULES & REGULATIONS PARADE CONDUCT: PAGE 2 of 3 - If you use amplified music (radios stations, dance groups, etc.) the volume must be kept to a reasonable level. To keep conflicts to a minimum, your sound may not project more than half a block beyond your position. Live music just cannot compete with amplification. -The throwing of candy and other items from any parade unit is prohibited. For the crowd s safety, please give items out HAND-TO-HAND to spectators at the curb. Failure to abide will result in your unit being removed from the Parade immediately. -The presence and consumption of alcoholic beverages by any parade unit is not allowed this is not the image of the Irish we wish to present, and even in a parade is prohibited by law in a motor vehicle. -No parade unit is allowed to discharge firecrackers, caps, blanks, incendiary devices or other equipment that might startle or excite the animals participating in the parade. All decorative material used on floats must be fire retardant, and every float should have a fire extinguisher on board. -Advertising is not allowed in the parade without prior approval of Parade Management. The Shamrock Club of Wisconsin and the Westown Association reserve all advertising rights to the parade. -All dignitaries, guests, and Radio/TV personalities are requested to remain in (or at least near) their assigned vehicles. Nothing is more disappointing to a parade viewer to see a car with a name on it, and not see that person because they are on the opposite side of the street shaking hands. -Elected officials are requested to refrain from campaigning while appearing in the parade. This Parade is run by the Shamrock Club of Wisconsin, a 501 ( c ) 3 non-profit organization. The distribution of political materials, political campaigning and / or protesting or any kind is prohibited by Shamrock Club Policy. Please remember that the parade is a celebration of Irish pride, and not a campaign appearance.

6 PARADE RULES & REGULATIONS PAGE 3 of 3 COMPLIANCE: The Shamrock Club of Wisconsin, Inc., and the Westown Association, organizers of the parade, as represented by the Parade Managers, will review the performance of all units relative to these policies, and may deny repeat participation to any unit. The Parade Directors have the right to remove any parade unit from the line up at their sole discretion for a violation of any applicable rule, ordinance, or law.
