1 A07 covered by this assessment Issued May 2013 Description of Equipment covered by the assessment: Classic & Balance Circus Workshop Equipment All Circus Skills Workshops activities are supervised by Tutors / Entertainers trained in-house with the necessary core skills to supervise activities safely. Classic Circus Workshop Balance Circus Workshop Balloon Modelling Workshop Juggling Balls / Bean Bags Stilts Hand Held Modelling Balloons Juggling Clubs Stilts Strap on Balloon Pumps Diablo Stilts Rope Table Devil Sticks Power Risers Staffs Unicycle Spinning Plates Trainee Unicycle Hula Hoops Pedle Go Poi What follows are details of our Assessment of the specific Risks that can be posed by the use of the individual pieces of equipment within our Workshops. As with all physical activities Risk can never be completely eliminated, however they can be reduced by implementing the Actions Taken to Reduce Risk. Our Tutors / Entertainers will to the best of their ability action all points noted in the Actions Taken to Reduce Risk column. However we cannot be responsible for the misuse of equipment or misbehaviour by Participants. We would like to point out that if any Participant consistently misuses equipment or in the view of our Tutor / Entertainer poses a Risk to anyone else they will be asked to leave the Workshop. 2 Classic Circus Worksop Equipment Risks 1 Juggling Ball Bean Bags Persons at Probability Severity Risk Actions Taken to Reduce Risk Balls or bag hitting someone. 1,2,3, Ensure participant has sufficient space. Demonstrate correct use of balls and bags. Ball or bag bursts releasing beans, All equipment to be checked by Tutor at could go into eyes or be swallowed start of session.. 2 Juggling Clubs Club hitting some one 1,2,3, Ensure participant has sufficient space. Demonstrate correct use of balls and bags. 3 Diablo Diablo hitting someone or something when thrown. 1,2,3, Ensure participant has sufficient space. Demonstrate correct use of Diablo. Ensure Participant does not throw to high until competent. Instruct Participants not to throw Diablo indoors if lights could be broken Diablo string breaking 1,2,3, All equipment to be checked by Tutor at start of session. 4 Devil Sticks Stick hitting someone or something when thrown. 1,2,3, Ensure participant has sufficient space. Demonstrate correct use of Devil Stick. Ensure Participant does not throw to high until competent. Instruct Participants not to throw sticks into the air indoors if lights could be broken Devil Stick dropped on foot Ensure all Participants wearing suitable footwear 5 Staffs Participant loses control of Staff and it hits someone 1,2,3, Ensure participant has sufficient space. Demonstrate correct use of batons.

Poked in eye by spinning plate stick Ensure participant has sufficient space. Demonstrate correct use of Plates. Ensure Equipment is not misused in any way ie. Fencing or generally poking at people with sticks 7 Hula Hoops Hula Hoop hitting someone 1,2,3, Ensure participant has sufficient space. Demonstrate correct use of Hoops. 8 Poi Poi hitting participant or other Ensure participant has sufficient space. Demonstrate correct use of Poi.

Stilts Strap On Falling off Stilts Ensure Participant has sufficient space and Tutor should ensure that participant is big enough so that stilts strap on correctly. 2.
