1 1 KLB Travel to School Survey - Summary Report 1. How do you usually travel to school? The most common mode of transport used by responders travelling to school was the public/school bus with 44.8% (250 responders). The second highest mode of transport was walking with 31.7% (177 responders). Car sharing accounted for only 2% (11 responders), however car share passengers was 15.6% (87 responders) closely followed by Car dropped off or picked up with 14.7% (82 responders). The remaining modes of transport were of similar percentages with 1.6% (9 responders) driving alone, 0.2% (1 responder) cycling, 0.2% (1 responder) using a motorbike, 1.3% (7 responders) taxi, 0.4% (2 responders) private hire and 0.2% (1 responder) minibus, respectively. How would you travel if it was raining? The most common mode of transport used by responders if it was raining was the Public/school bus with 43.9% (246 responders). Following this, the next three most used modes were Car share passenger with 21.7% (122 responders), Car dropped off or picked up with 18.7% (105 responders) and walking with 23.7% (133 responders). The remaining responders were 1.6% (9 responders) Car drive alone, 1.2% (7 responders) would use a Taxi, 0.2% (1 responder) would Cycle, 0.5% (3 responders) use private hire, and 0.7% (4 responders) chose Other. There were 2 No responses to this question.

Of the 520 responders the majority would use a car in emergency predominantly as a passenger, but also as drivers. Other respondents would use the emergency services, walk or public transport depending on what constitutes an emergency. 4. If you come by car, does the journey take you through Kingswood village? Of the 418 responders, 52.4% (219 responders) travelled through Kingswood Village, whilst 47.6 (199 responders) took an alternative route. 145 responders did not answer this question.

Of the 87 responders to this question, 92% (80 responders) parked in the school carpark, whilst 8% (7 responders) parked on the street and 1.1% (1 responder) parked at the side of the school. There are currently 35 out of 140 students aged over 17 years that drive to school which represents 25% of those old enough to do so. If you are a driver, where do you usually park? 4 4 6. How long does it usually take to get to school? Of the 556 responders to this question, the average time it took to get to school was between 5 15 minutes which accounted for 44.1% (245 responders) of responses. This was closely followed by the minutes category with 38.1% (212 responders), whilst 10.6% (59 responders) took between minutes, 6.5% (36 responders) took Under 5 minutes and only 0.7% (4 responders) took over an hour. Of the 560 responders to this question, the main time to arrive at school was between 8am 9am as shown with 68.9% (386 responders). This was followed by 29.6% (166 responders) arriving between 7am 8am, whilst only 0.7% (4 responders) arrived between 6am 7am, 0.5% (3 responders) arrived after 10am and 0.2% (1 responder) arrived before 6am. 5 5 8. What time do you usually leave school? The majority of responders, 77.3% (426 responders) left school before 3pm, followed by 19.2% (106 responders) who left between 3pm - 4pm. Only 0.5% (3 responders) left between 4pm 5pm, 0.9% (5 responders) left between 5pm 6pm and 2% (11 responders) left after 6pm. There were 12 No Responders to this question. Which of the following changes to you think you could make to the way you travel to school, even for one day a week? In total there were 516 responders to this question, with 47.7% (246 responders) stating that they would make no changes to the way they travelled to school. Of the remaining responders, 17.8% (92 responders) would look into car share, 15.7% (81 responders) would use the bus, 11.6% (60) would walk, 9.1% (47 responders) chose cycling, whilst 2.1% (11 responders) selected Other which included Car hire or getting a lift halfway. 6 6 10. What is your year group? Of the 555 responders to this question, 29% (161 responders) were Year 7, 25% (139 responders) were Year 8 and 28.8% (160) were Year 9. There were 2.2% (12 responders) from Year 10, 10.3% (57 responders) from Year 12 and 3.1% (17 responders) from Year 13. The staff made up 1.6% (9 responders) of the responders, whilst there were no responders from Year 11. What is your year group? There is a clear correlation between this and the data shown in Question 6 How long does it take you to get to school, with a large cluster of respondents living within 5 15 minutes in towns such as Wotton-on-Edge, whilst there are also sporadic postcode points representing those respondents who travel further distances.
