Roadrunner Activities and News (September 2014) Hello fellow Roadrunners, Our next summer outdoor general membership meeting: When: Tuesday, September 16th at 18:00 Where: Holzofen Pizzeria am Seewoog, Waldstr. 40, Miesenbach Internet: What: Social meeting, drinks & dinner available at the castle restaurant Patrick OTHER: For information on upcoming walks, please check our Facebook page, I post the walks weekly: *
Items of Interest By: Amanda Bradley On behalf of all the Board of Directors, I would like to give a GREAT BIG thank you to everyone who volunteered, walked, or both for the Miesau and Wiesbaden walks. Both of our sister clubs appreciated all the help and support. The club has a new storage shed, and on 21 Sep 2014 at 0900, we will be organizing and cleaning the shed. We could use some help. So if you re able and willing, please contact Terry at blkdragon67@aol.com or for more information. Please put in the subject line Shed Help. When my husband and I first joined the club a year ago, the club had Flag Walks. This is where a group of us go to a walk with our Roadrunner flag to show the hosting club we are there supporting them. Plus, it enables us club members to get together and get to know each other. The club hasn t had one of these in a long time. I m not sure how many of you feel the same way, but I think it is important is for us as a club to have more of these Flag Walks. I am going to try and have the Board of Directors to pick at least one walk a month that will be our flag walk for that month. So for Oct, our flag walk will be on Oct at the Kindsbach. If you would like to go, need a ride, want to carpool, want more information, etc, please contact me at sparrow63@gmail.com or Please put in the subject line Flag Walk. My last item of interest is you are members. I want to hear from you. I want to know what you would like to see our club do. I want to know what you feel our club needs to do better on. I want to know your thoughts, concerns, and questions. This is our club, not just the Board of Directors. Our members are the most important people in the club. Without you, our club wouldn t really be a club. So please contact me at sparrow63@gmail.com or with all your suggestions and inputs. I will do my best to get the changes you want. Happy Wandering Everyone! Amanda *
Our next club sponsored walk, Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day, 27 November, is coming soon. If you can and would like to volunteer, please contact me, or the club at our e- mail address below. Our October bus trip to the Allenbach Volksmarch followed by a visit to the Piesport wine fest happens on 11 October Check out the trip announcement at For more information on Piesport, check out their website, there you will find a wine fest flyer, (both are in German only). Remember, if you sign-up for the trip before 23 September, you will get a discount on the trip cost. Contact Gene Behrends, parrotdad@hotmail.com, or the club address, to sign-up. Come out and join us at our club meeting/dinner. Details on when and where can be found at our club website home page and updates will be posted on our club Facebook Page. We would like your feedback on other ways/benefits which will enhance your membership experience. Send us your ideas by or post them on our club Facebook page, Don t forget to check out our club website, for current news, meeting time and location updates, and trip information. Join or renew your membership in any of three easy ways: - In person at a scheduled membership meeting or contact us to arrange an in person meeting. - By mail to our club address: Ramstein Roadrunners, c/o 86 SVS/SVYR, Unit 3240 Box 1, APO, AE By Electronic Bank Draft to IBAN: DE BLZ (routing number) BIC: MALADE51KLK Account Number

Check out traditional craftsmen? Watch a parade of toga-clad re-enactors (and a few Roman soldiers)? Then join your Roadrunners for our next bus trip. On Sat, Oct 11 we will head out for a walk and weinfest. We will start off by joining the Allenbach club for a walk in the lovely Hunsruck. Then we ll head down hill to the town of Piesport on the Mosel for federweissen and zwiebelkuchen at their annual wine fest. Piesport is home to the largest Roman wine press discovered north of the Alps. Meet: Ramstein North Chapel parking lot Depart 0830, Return ~1930 Cost: $40 for members/$50 for non-members Sign-up and pay by 23 Sept and receive your 20% Speedy Bird discount ($30/$40) Trails: 5k, 10k, 20k (and more) POC is Gene Behrends (home) (cell) parrotdad@hotmail.com Save the date: Sat Dec-13 bus trip to Metz for their illuminated Christmas market walk. **
SALES Check out the Ramstein Roadrunners web site for all of our fabulous gear! If there is anything you would like, drop me (Laura Ryan) an or give me a call and I'll arrange to meet you. If there is something you would like to have our wonderful logo embroidered on, please let me know. And if you have a great idea for a new item, don't hesitate to let me know. Just drop me an or give me a call! Happy walking! ACHIEVEMENTS As a member of the Ramstein Roadrunners, you can earn distance achievement patches by keeping track not only your volksmarch distances, but logging your own walks/runs on a daily basis--anywhere you walk or run--on a club Kilometer log. Distance traveled must be under your own power outdoors. As you reach various milestones- 125/250/500/750/1,000/1,500/2,000/2,500/3,000/3,500/4,000/5,000 km, you'll receive a pentagonal patch. After this, the patches are rectangular and are awarded at 6,500/8,000/10,000/12,500/15,000/20,000/22,500/25,000 km levels. Turn your logs into the Membership/Achievement Director Laura Ryan and receive your patches! You've earned them as a club member as long as you keep track of mileage! ***
Here s how you decode the listings - you ll find the event name (i.e. Morbach) followed by the state or the country the walk is in (RP, Saar, etc) and the trail lengths if they have been published in the terminelist. Check on the web site in the Master Distance Listing Dec 09 for how far approximately the walk is from Ramstein. You still need to check the weekly walking column in the Stars & Stripes, the walk brochures and the official listing on the DVV web site but this will give you a start. We will also suggest some nice mini-trips for folks who are more adventuresome. The officers have done a number of these over the years and can provide information if you need it. Always remember to take your passport AND International driver s license if you are traveling to a walk outside the boundaries of Germany. You never know when the customs officials will enforce the borders and the fines can be steep. At best, the hassle may cost you several hours and much frustration.
