4 Elements desired for a Walkable Community Access Safety Land Use The Benefits of a Walkable Community Transportation Benefits reduced traffic congestion, improved safety, calms traffic, preserves road infrastructure. Economic Benefits increased retail sales (restaurants, lodging establishments, retail stores), job creation, and enhancement of nearby property values. Environmental Benefits improved air quality and energy conservation. Aesthetics Social Benefits - quality-of-life benefits from living in communities with more open space and greenways and that provide more opportunities for walking or cycling. Health and Fitness Benefits it is well recognized that Americans would benefit in many ways from a more active lifestyle. Bike lanes, sidewalks and trails promote healthy choices.

14 Time Line for the Pedestrian Safety Action Plan 2012 Continued Pedestrian Mobility Advisory Committee will continue to monitor progress June 2012: CD s containing the Plan were sent to 57 municipalities and department directors in the MPO s study region

15 Time Line for the Pedestrian Safety Action Plan Next Steps: Continue to educate the public that the Plan exists Follow-up calls to CD recipients in September and October 2012 to schedule face to face meetings PMAC will continue to remain active in the process Provide yearly updates to the MPO s Technical Advisory Committee and Policy Board City of San Antonio is discussing developing a Pedestrian Master Plan Adoption of the PSAP by all municipalities in the MPO study area
