2 Who is AFPAN? AFPAN is a network relating to physical activity and public health, aimed to promote physical activity for health across the African continent. AFPAN is the African branch of a global physical activity network, the Global Alliance for Physical Activity (GAPA).
3 Objectives Goal: To promote physical activity (PA) for health in all African nations by the year 2022 Objectives: Provide a focused forum for African professionals, researchers and practitioners in the areas of physical activity and health. Share experiences, practices, programmes and strategies through s, meetings, conferences, websites and scholarly writing. Sensitize and develop strategies to disseminate information to various national leaders (political, religious, cultural, NGOs) on the role of PA in promoting health and on the role of leaders in promoting PA. Plan, coordinate, monitor and evaluate PA calendar (events/activities) for Africa e.g organize all Africa PA Day / Week. Organize and hold regular meetings to review and evaluate progress thereby ensuring communication channels are put in place to minimize communication gaps.

12 IPEN-NEWS in Africa International Physical Activity and Environment Network Project Estimate the strength of association between measures of community walkability and the built environment with physical activity, obesity and health status in adults The Neighborhood Environment Walkability Scale (NEWS) to assess perceived residential density, land use mix, street connectivity, walking/biking infrastructure, and traffic and crime safety has been adapted for use in urban African settings. Countries committed: Nigeria, Mozambique, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Cameroon, (potentially Tanzania and Ghana). Training scheduled for18-21 st Aug 2013
