2 ITINERARY Saturday, December 15: Depart for Virginia, Fredericksburg & Richmond 6:30AM: Motorcoach will depart from Lancaster, AC Moore Store located in the Lancaster Shopping Center on the Oregon Pike/Route 272 side of the store. 7:30AM: Motorcoach will depart from Harrisburg, AAA Central Penn, 2301 Paxton Church Rd., upper lot behind building for Fredericksburg, VA with rest and meal stops en route. Arrive in Fredericksburg, Virginia for some free time and lunch on your own with a stop at Mattaponi Winery where you will sample wine with a cheesecake pairing. Continue on to Glenside, Virginia to check into your hotel with some time to freshen up before dinner. This evening, enjoy dinner at Capital Ale House, one of Richmond s favorite dining spots. After dinner, you will head outside to board the trolley for the Tacky Lights Tour. Richmond has received the dubious distinction of having some of the best tacky holiday light displays in America. You ll hop aboard a trolley and go see these monuments to excess and discuss which house was the best. Hotel: Hampton Inn and Suites, Glenside, VA (Dinner) Sunday, December 16: Wilton House, Glass Blowing Demonstration & Virginia Museum of Fine Arts This morning after breakfast at the hotel, you will board your motorcoach to tour historic Wilton House. The stunning Georgian colonial plantation home (circa 1753) was used by Lafayette as his headquarters during the American Revolution and George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are among the famous visitors here. Wilton will be decorated for the holidays and its superb collection of early American decorative arts is a must-see. Next, you will have time for some shopping and lunch on your own in Carytown. This mile-long stretch of Cary Street is Richmond s funky and fun shopping and dining destination. For lunch, choose from everything between French cuisine to great burgers. Walk off your lunch and discover the one-of-a-kind gifts that you will find along this Mile of Style experience. Next, you will get to see some of the hottest art in town at a glass studio where you ll watch a live demonstration of how molten glass becomes a work of art. You ll see how traditional glass Christmas ornaments are made and maybe get to lend a hand. After the demonstration you will take a self-guided tour of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts before boarding your motorcoach to return to the hotel to relax and freshen up before dinner. Maymont Estate, a gilded-age capitalist will be all decked out for the holidays in splendid style. See how the other half lived and celebrated Christmas during that glorious time. Then it s on to Thomas Jefferson s boyhood home which dates to 1733 and is among the finest early 18th century plantation homes. Your guided tour will include the small one-room schoolhouse where Jefferson received his first education. The house will be decorated for the holidays in the fashion a young Jefferson would have known. Afterwards, board your motorcoach for lunch at Hutch Bar & Eatery before beginning the trip home to Central PA with rest and meal stops en route.
