The wlk zone is mix of residentil, commercil, nd public property nd vcnt lnd. The primry ccess routes to the school, Snt Clus Lne nd 8 th Avenue, verge over 4,000 nd 1,200 vehicles ech dy, respectively. Active rilrod trcks bisect the wlk zone nd pss within ¼ mile of the school. The rilrod crossings re not AA-complint. Flngewy gps exceed the 13mm limit for openings nd there re no detectble wrnings in plce. Site Chrcteristics There is bike pth, nd streetlights on south side of 8 th Avenue. There re AA-complint sidewlks round school property. Ptriot rive hs shoulders nd streetlights, but no sidewlk. The school provides stff to help with pedestrin nd trffic control. There is hevily wooded re between the bck of the school nd the bike pth long the ld Richrdson Highwy. PHS Boulevrd hs AA-complint sidewlks on the south side. Additionlly, the presence of the rilrod trcks increses the complexity of two intersections. The seprted bike pth long 8 th Avenue nd the ld Richrdson Highwy provides sfe ccess to residentil res north nd south of the school, s well s downtown orth Pole. However, the pth ends bruptly t Blnket Street with no bike or pedestrin fcilities providing ccess to the neighborhoods est of Blnket Street. Children wlking north from orth Pole Middle School towrds orth Pole Elementry do not hve sidewlks long the route - vis Rod, Snowmn Lne. Likewise, they must cross 5 th Avenue, which sees over 1,000 vehicles dily, without the id of crosswlks. Recommendtions Improve the intersections on PHS Boulevrd, ld Richrdson Highwy, 8 th Avenue, nd Snowmn Lne s recommended bove for orth Pole Elementry.
