2 Essential Questions: How will locomotor skills help me to develop physical fitness? What are some ways I can move from one point to another? How many ways can you move from one point to another? How are the gallop and side step similar? What cues can you give for the side slide? Running? Etc. How can you move at different levels/pathways/spaces/relationships/efforts? What are some strategies you can use to be successful at chasing, fleeing, and dodging? Time Frame Unit will last 4 weeks in duration (6-8 lessons) Each lesson should last approximately 30 minutes Specific Standards / Performance Indicators CCLS: RL.K.4 RL.1.2, 1.4, 1.6 Resources /Materials Shape America Common Core Learning Standards Books: Jonathan and His Mommy by Irene Smalls Hide and Snake by Keith Baker Children Moving by Graham Charts Vocabulary worksheet Word Wall or vocabulary chart Movement pictures Coloring sheets Cones or markers, whistle, music, speaker, computer

Demonstrate 4 of 5 critical elements for jumping and landing in a vertical plane Skills: Walking, jogging, running, gallop, skip, leap, hop, jump horizontally, jumping vertically Higher Order Questions What sport would use the side slide and shuffle? What sport uses jogging rather than running and explain your answer? What are some different ways to flee or dodge? When would it be appropriate to use different locomotor movements? ELL Enhancement s Listening Build Background Knowledge Audio Speaking Sentence Frames Academic conversation Starters Reading Supplementary Texts Visual Aids Video Standards-based questions Writing Sentence Frames Graphic Organizers Standards-based sentence stems Accommodations Extended time Directions read 3x Oral interpretation
